Excited About Shannahans' New Video On Front Page.

Well, a few weeks ago I'd have loved for him to be headed out or fired. But after just now watching his new Video interview on the Front page I'm hoping he stays.. He confessed that he had to adjust his plays and that they picked back up many of the plays that we won with the last 5 years.. Bammmmm!!! Just exactly what I have been posting every time I've posted in the last 2 months.

If you remember how I bashed him all year for the plays that took so long to set up and almost got Ryan killed ,, I noticed that he had threw those QB killer plays out the last 3 games and that is the reason for the big change for the better on this team.. And he flat out said it in that last new Video.. He went back and picked up the plays we won with the last 4 years ,, not in those words exactly but the plays we were so successful with the last 4 years, I think was his words.. I'm really hoping now he stays because ====

1. We can now win with him

2. He's a Coach who can eat crow and learn from mistakes ,,

3. He's not afraid to change in order to win..

4. because of this he's won my vote to come back next year.

5. I don't want to have to let another OC have to learn all the same mistakes he made this year.

6. He did learn and now we are ready.

7. Add that to a draft headed up by what we now need in our new Schemes at D and O, We could really be a great team next year. Oh wait ! Today is next year, homebrew.001.gif

The Panthers' game was as much about attitude and actually playing hard(for retribution it seems) as it was x's and o's.

Let's not act like the offense was moving like years past. Plus, I want to see them play hard all season and for the coaches to scheme well not just for a game or two where they want payback but throughout.

I want him to stay for the sake of continuity. I think that the WCO and ZBS are sound systems, but require extreme collaboration between players. The offensive line is in mid-rebuild. I'd like to see the personnel change to a complete ZBS OL. We are close. All we need is a Center that is well versed in the scheme and possibly a replacement for Chester (a guy that may be near retirement).

It would be a shame to change the scheme once again.

Quite a reach  basically said he's adjusted throughout the year and we've done some things differently than what we've done the past 7 years...

Not sure where you're hearing he went back to things we 'won' with the past 4 years

Overall I am happy people are appreciating Kyle's offense now. And its nice to see the offense improve towards year end instead of only getting worse like people kept saying it would

Here is my issue with the zbs as a running scheme.

Most all teams that have a serious running game...can and do run everything. Power...trap...iso....the lombardi sweep...and an outside run with zone blocking.

Presnap...opposing defenses know that if we run....it will be using the zbs...mostly outside...and good defenses with good lb's will easily defend that. They will be able to decipher run-pass very quick...and where the run is going.

Also...it makes play action less effective...because of how quickly the outside zone run can be diagnosed.

The opposing defense does not have to worry about being overpowered between the tackles with power...or trap.

They can play their base defense with the olbs wide and all lbs a little deep...aint no power lead coming...this is also the best position for lbs against a pass.

If we mixed up some power and trap...opponents would have to play their lbs straight up.

And I dont wanna hear how we cant...the way dimarco has been just murdering defenders on lead blocks....why not?

Beginning of the year we ran some inside traps...been busy during the holidays so haven't done as much tape watching but it's definitely in the playbook. Edited by Wjcorner

Still can't figure out why Kyle became so untouchable for a buncha folks around here. I will have to go watch the video. I mean, I guess I get why he would be so slow and stubborn about compromising. He wanted his stuff to work. I think it will work next year. It is sort of poetic justice that Matt gets a bit of famiarity and looks good. His head wasn't full of Shananigans, didn't have to get the ball out in 2, AND visualize new routes and reads, Call the right protections, set up the WRs ..etc etc etc. of course to top all that off, just to make crap that much harder his center sucked donkey and was good for 2-3 terrible snaps a game on top of the regular old bad snaps that was the norm.

I mean, you could see it in the guys eyes. He was on brain overload. Maybe people here never experienced anything like that when they were playing, but I certainly did and when your brain is too busy thinking about what to do instead of just executing. Mistakes not only can happen, they will happen. It throws you that ever so important millisecond off which is just plain detrimental. All of that is what angered me about Kyle, well his ignorance of it or his ignoring of it whichever it was. Both are beyond unacceptable IMO. That's a coaches job to be able to notice the little things about their guys. So when it isn't just little things, but nuclear volcano hurricanes flying out your most important offensive players eyeballs and all ya do is pile more ship on top of it all...then WTF!

I digress though. He was under a lot too. I do really like a lot of his stuff. They'll all be better next year.

He literally never said that. He never said anything close to that.

Making **** up about what a video interview says doesn't prove your point. Unless you assume nobody will actually watch the video.

Here's a great breakdown of some successful plays from Sunday. It's the same concepts Shanny has ran all year. Plenty of 'long developing' routes downfield with quick pot shots underneath. Plenty of square ins and outs with route combinations to get guys open at different levels. Yet we beaters for man, cover 3 and cover 2 with all these plays. Where are the plays from the past ya are seeing?

And support that guys thread, maybe we can get an actual football discussion going

If you watch the tape you will hear him say what I just posted.. He said we went back to some of the passing plays they were so successful and won at I think he said for the last 4 years, I think that was the number.... One reason I don't post more on this site is people are sad,, You can be negative all you want , I'm a positive person and will die that way... I've got a lot to look forward to. Even watching the Falcons... emot-slick.gif

He said we ran the same scheme essentially the last 7 years and then changed it. Listen again. He said nothing even close to what you are claiming.

I think it all came down to Matt finally getting "it" in the offense. It was there in glimpses all season, but starting in the second half of the Jacksonville game he's looked a lot more assertive and decisive to me with where he wanted to go with the ball. No throws into triple coverage, no wrong reads or anything, just an overall comfort zone. I expect it to be taken up a notch in terms of execution next season.

Nobody is being negative though...I'm thinking you heard something wrong because he didn't say anything like that.

'They've ran a similar system with what they've done for the past 7 years and this year some things were different but we adjusted throughout the year'

DLed in the question says "I don't think people appreciate how much overhaul there was, putting in the running game, and then trying to piece together the passing game." He asks "could you talk about that process?"

Then Shanahan says "when you have that continuity with a group of guys who have played in the system now for a full year, you get better."

So DLed follows up and asks him to talk about the passing game and route options. Shanahan's response is that you learn how to adjust your personnel as the year goes, and then he says the relevant quote:

"They've ran a similar system around here with what they've done the past 7 years, and some things were different this year. We adjusted throughout the year. We'll see how it goes and how this finishes out and go back and watch the tape and we'll put the stuff together that we think is best for the players in this building." He said we need to be more consistent.

What he NEVER said is "they picked back up many of the plays that we won with the last 5 years." Not even close. He pretty much said the opposite of that.

There is something about videos of any kind on the mothership. Very rare one will actually play for me. Always just a black screen. :(

You try the mobile app? I usually have problems on pc but the mobile app is always solid for me.

The higher ups should consider creating a YouTube page...I know that would decrease traffic to the main site but their video player is wonky.

He never said what you're claiming he said. He said that they've been running a system for the past 7 years and are now adjusting to a new one. No where did he ever say or implied that they put in plays from the past 4.

Exactly. It's all about Matt Ryan playing better because he's finally gotten comfortable in the offense. Matt was far more decisive and getting the ball out of his hands on time. That is why the offense was working the last two games. We just need to see that continue against the Saints. Next year we add a few more pieces to the team and I think we're real legit contenders!! So pumped up for next year. Although we've got to take care of business against the Saints first. A loss to them would be extremely disappointing.

I'm not with firing coaches after one season, and having everybody learn a new offense all over again. I rather them learn from their mistakes and let's get back at it next year. I think a prime example is Big Ben and Todd Haley. Let's not be stupid

Exactly what the few select rational posters have pointed out.

I hate the NFL.com video player. Absolutely hate it.

And they do have an NFL channel, although the Kyle Shanahan press conference video isn't posted for some reason.

What's funny is that is the first place I looked. I always use the app mainly because it's more reliable. Couldn't find the vid anywhere so I just went to the site. You mention the app so I go to look once more and the stupid video is staring me in the face .... It played though! lol
