Wahhh

If they don't do what I want, then they're not commited to winning. rolleyes.gif

Sign Williams to fix the glaring problem. Sign the best de possible. Prove to me you truly want to compete by making excellent off season moves.

Not just because I want Williams but because it's the best move for the franchise.

I'm done arguing w your weak ***. If you disagree so be it. I've stooped down to your level enough for one day. You have a great new year tho

There will never be a time where the statement

If they don't do X, then they don't care about winning

won't be stupid.

It is, has been, and always will be an infantile, idiotic, post.

Oh, and Great year to you too. emot-tiphat.gif

I'd rather sign the better player, not the guy who's name is more recognizable. That's Mario at this point, just a name that posters can refer to because he used to be elite. He has been far from elite this year, trust me. Would be a huge mistake to spend a ton him when we could get a more productive Olivier Vernon or Charles Johnson. Even Curry would be a better use of our cap space.

Just to clarify for some people, we're not looking for a #1 pass rusher here. That will be Beasely. We're looking for a guy to fill that big end role, who can play good to great run defense, while also getting to the QB 8+ times a year.

Sounds like a role perfect for Vinny Curry.

Curry was a really good pass rusher at Marshall, getting double-digit sack totals in each of his final 2 seasons there.

When he went to Philly, they really didn't know what to do with him. They already had 4-3 DEs they were committed to in Trent Cole, Brandon Graham, and Darryl Tapp. Curry didn't get much playing time as a rookie as he was buried on the depth chart.

In his sophomore season with the Eagles, they switched to a 3-4. He was made to gain a bunch of weight in order to fill the role of a 3-4 DE. He was only in on 26% of the snaps, was playing in an unfamiliar scheme & was carrying an extra 15-20lbs, yet he still notched 4 sacks, 18 tackles, and 2 PDs.

In his 3rd season, he was still playing DE at 15-20 lbs more than normal in a 3-4. He only played 32% of the snaps that year, yet he notched 9 sacks, 17 tackles, 4 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery.

This year, they tried to move Curry to OLB in the 3-4... another unfamiliar position... rather than leaving him at DE where he had success the year before. The smart thing to do would've been to leave him at DE & give him more snaps, but it's just one of the many boneheaded moves the Eagles made this year trying to get cute, tweaking things that didn't need tweaking. So, while again having to learn a new position & only being in for 33% of the snaps, Curry has seen his production suffer... 8 tackles & 3.5 sacks.

If allowed to play in his natural role... a 4-3 DE... and given a real share of snaps, I have no doubt that Curry can flourish. We could probably get him AND Irvin for what it would cost to get Williams or Vernon alone.

Beasley & Curry at DE with Irvin at SLB sounds really, really nice to me.

Read this thread. Sounds like he just isn't a fit as a OLB in a 3-4. Most Bills fans still think he is a stud in a 4-3.

The whole defense as a whole is struggling so I wouldn't look to much into this year.

Curry isn't even close to being the player Mario is. Your first sentence you talk about signing the better player. Curry definitely isn't that. Olivier is better than all of them. But he will cost

You may be right. Time will tell

Williams has never really played all too well in a 34. Rex Ryan is 34.

Dan Quinn is 43.

If Mario Williams went to Seattle, people would be talking about how great of a move it is and how he'd fit well in that scheme. The Quinn scheme is meant for an attacking front 4. That's kinda what Mario Williams does.

I'm typically against giant FA acquisitions but if Mario Williams falls into our laps pull the ******* trigger

Half of you slam TD for signing guys like Ray Edwards and then the other half says he can't draft a DL worth a $hit so wouldn't it be most productive to sign Mario?

I mean what the **** do you people want

Bet half of those saying stuff like that about Williams, was probably the same ones who said things like that about Peppers the year we decided to go Edwards instead. It's bad enough to have a front office who sits with a finger up there butt, spinning around on it, and waiting for scraps in FA. Even worse when you have fans that are ok with being mediocre and bringing in rejects hoping for a miracle. Hoping one does a little something, istead of going after a more proven player. Sometimes these good, solid, old guys , will produce more well and still have years left.

Personally, id like to have Charles Johnson though

People ***** so much on this board they forget which side they're on. I'm not gonna be mad as long as DE is addressed

So what does make him great then? His 4 sacks this season? Missing meetings? Whining to the media? What's so great about him?

Versatility can probably still play 60 defensive snaps without too many issues.

I'm not saying we should pay 10-12 mill per to sign him and if he's after that I wouldn't becaue there are still a few good options out there for us.

The pick would be an enticing one though. The straight up rush the passer style that Quinn peaches would be right up his alley.
