We Should Have Won 12 Games With This Cake Schedule

Recommended Posts

Ahem. Just a healthy dose of reality here, that's all. Here are what the major outlets predicted for our team this year.

Pat Kirwin with CBS predicted 6-10.

Vaughn McClure predicted 8-8 on ESPN.

538's Elo prediction model averaged 7.7 wins.

Nate Davis with USA Today predicted 4-12.

Sean Tomlinson on BR predicted 6-10.

Sports Formulator predicted 6-10.

No w/l predictions on nfl.com, but just 2 of 13 predicted us to win the division, with ringing endorsements like "the division is such a disaster that you could just pick one of the teams out of a hat if you prefer" and calling the division "sorry" and "dysfunctional."

This is legitimately every prediction I've found so far. No cherry picking. Just thought you all might like to know.

I'm as bewildered as anyone that we started out 5-0, rocketed down to 6-7, and are now somehow at 8-7 after taking out the last undefeated team in the NFL. But let's not kid ourselves. This team far exceeded mainstream expectations and constantly killed themselves all year, thanks to horrible mistakes, young players, lack of talent at key areas and a mixture of new coaching and schemes. It's all up from here. Try to stay positive. I've had trouble with that myself but it truly is looking up.

If we come out strong against NO I'll say it's looking up...

there are definitely some things to take away from this year that we can build upon at least...and our core of difference makers are all young, not really any vets contributing heavy except on o-line...so in theory, our window is wide open with the nucleus we have in place now.

really excited to see if Trufant will continue shadowing #1 receivers though, it's something I've wanted to be able to do with a corner for a while. really opens up your defensive looks

We as fans have to get it through our head that there is no actual existence of a cake schedule. Nfl teams actually show up to play sometimes and when you're displaying weak points each week, teams are bound to catch on. That's just how it goes.

Now the positive about every loss this year, all were close outside of the first Panthers game. So at least they were being competitive. But knowing how good they should have truly been on offense is what's most depressing. That's when you can really look back and see it could have been better. But the past is the past. No sense in dwelling over what can't be changed. Here's to next year

I hadn't considered that yet.... But I think that is a very solid point. Still not sure why he isn't here anymore

Me neither. It was the only move I never understood this last preseason.

Still, when the difference is so huge with just one player, I think we're poised for a pretty good year in 2016.

I strongly believe if we had kept Joe Hawley on this roster we'd be in the playoffs right now. We need a center so badly this offseason.

Hawley being our center, and Roddy being more a part of the game plan than Hankerson was, would have at least netted 2 more wins IMO, which might have been enough.

Next years schedule is brutal. We need stark improvement to win some big games next year. Looks like we play Denver, STL, and Seattle. That's rough.

St Louis isn't a tough game until they show they arent a quasi trainwreck year in and year out. And with Jeff Fisher still there? I'm not counting on them being more than a 6-8 win team.

Denver and Seattle both have a ton of important pieces hitting FA. Like....a ton. I'm sure some will stay but both teams are going to have to fill a ton of holes in their rosters given their cap situations.

even if they lost those key pieces it doesn't guarantee a Falcons win.

Yes but at the same time, those teams are guaranteed to be great either.

ummmm... Neither are the Falcons. Spare the Homer responses. All I'm saying is for starters and mostly, it's far too soon to make any type of snap judgement of how the Falcons will do against any team next season or what any team will come close to looking like including Atlanta who will possibly look different as well

I think we are thinking the same thing and just misunderstood each other's posts. Wasn't trying to be a homer at all. The offseason hasn't even happened, no free agents, no draft. Looking onto next year's schedule is pretty pointless

Lordy, here's something we agree on. Joe did have an embarrassing botched snap last week against the Bears but he's been miles better than the Falcons guys, particularly in calling out adjustments and inspiring his linemates.

Not to mention, he's on the team associated with your son. Instantly makes him significantly better.

That's what people always underrated about him around here, especially the line adjustments. He's the only center we had capable of doing that, and the fact that Stone and Person can't call out adjustments has toasted Ryan a lot this season.

Most everyone thought we had a very good chance to do just that. Now we learn that at least 2 coaches are admitting that the didn't handle things well. The latest being Bryon Cox who finally realized that he was ignorant of the best ways to motivate different personalities and used Adrian Clayborn and Beasley wrong !! When a team has a bad season and it's found that coaches didn't know what they were doing until the season was essentially over, it's even more difficult to take!!
