Nonsense. This team should be 0-14 right now. We only won 7 lucky games because the other team laid down and died.

Many, if not MOST NFL teams win by luck and the bounce of the ball.

Jerry Rice, the greatest WR to ever play the game......who won umpteen games and titles..........admitted a few years ago that most of his outstanding long yardage plays were BROKEN plays and that many of their victories were PURE LUCK.

Nothing has changed in the NFL.

The ONLY thing that hasn't changed in America is "Hero Worshiping", which has become a National Sport in the last 30 years.

How dare you bring facts and rational thinking here! laugh.png

Ok, seriously:

Absolutely and the defense is better and will be even better next season. The offense needs work but that will come along as well. People need to realize that you just don't turn a franchise around in 1 offseason.

While I 100 percent agree with you both on all points you mentioned, there's still something to be said about our regression offensively. Collapses like this don't just happen all the time. So yea, to me that's pretty concerning, mostly because I'm tired of feeling like this organization is wasting the prime years of all of our most valuable assets year after year. So ultimately my concern rests solely with the offense. Many questions to be answered. Sure, we can upgrade the o line and even receiver and tight end, but the question still remains: is this going to work?

Other than that I believe we've actually seen progress that's mostly going unrecognized. I think it was foolish to expect a championship caliber team this year so let's just sit back and watch the show without freaking out so much. Ahhhh nm. This is tatf.

I agree with this

But isn't our record a little better than the past two years?

I agree. I made this point in 1 of the other threads. It's year 1 with a whole new offensive and defensive system and the record is better. This team will be fine. It just takes time when you are putting new systems in and a new HC

I'm willing to give the new staff the benefit of the doubt simply because of the learning curve on both the coaches and the players. But dayum...when things were not evolving like they should have, wouldn't you think some adjusting should have been done so the season would not be a total loss. This was no doubt a total embarrassing learning curve of epic proportions on both ends.

This season is a classic example of how the sequencing of things can distort the overall perception.

We're a super mediocre football team. The very definition of it. But by winning 6 of our first 7, people thought we were more than that. Then, by losing 6 in a row, people thought we were worst than that. In reality? We're sitting with a point differential of -10 and a 7-7 record. There's a decent chance we end up at 8-8.

IDK...I think that's about right.

Our D got better, our O got worse. We have 1 more win than last year but with how weak our schedule was I don't really feel like we're better. I pretty much feel like we're the same.

Folks need to stop with this asinine way of thinking. This isn't college!! This is the NFL. Every game is tough. There is no such thing as a weak schedule or easy game. This isn't college!! You don't have cupcake games.

According to some people on these boards even though it's a win, it's really a loss.

The record may be better, but it is equally if not more disappointing to me at least. Losing is losing, and mistakes are what this season was all about. The Falcons stink just as bad as they did last year, if not more, because they had an easier schedule and could have done really well.

You're right about it not being college. However, when you lose games to teams starting their back-up QB's, or to a team that has probably the worst defense in the league, then yes the Falcons played a weak schedule and are at 500 as a result of it. I'm not saying that the Falcons should have won those games, but you can't say they weren't favored to win at least 4 of the 7 they lost, and for good reason. The reality is, that the Falcons are a terrible team right now, and will have to do a lot over the offseason to correct the many problems.
