Guest Homer the Brave
He really is a great guy. He has said that time and time again. He has been contrite.
K26dp
Pete Rose, A Stand Up GuyWith the minor exception of gambling on baseball when he had a clear conflict of interest and there was (and is) a ban on such behavior, then lying about it for the next 20+ years. jidady
I can't decide whether to give him two Nobel Prizes or three. He probably deserves a few Academy Awards too.
Unknøwn
He did at least take the high road. He said he wasnt mad at anyone because he's the one who made the decision. Said he wants to teach this generation about his mistakes so they dont make the same ones.

Joe Jackson deserves to be inducted in the HOF posthumously. That is the right move for this commish to make. Forget Rose, let some other generation mull it over. I mean especially considering there seems to be a very strong case that he didnt even do anything to start with.

Exactly. And even if he did swing a deal, keeping him out of the HOF, while he was alive, should be enough punishment.

You can't intentionally lose the World Series and still put up those kinds of numbers.

AEFalcon
I was going to make a joke but Pete Rose has a real problem with gambling addiction. So no joke but I'm not going to fall for sympathy card either. He did and still does put gambling/money ahead of the HOF. Until he seriously seeks professional help he will always be that way. Until then, no concern from about him getting in. Regarding Shoeless Joe, I 100% agree; he should be in the HOF.
AEFalcon
Announced today that Pete Rose will be inducted into the Cincinnati Reds Hall Of Fame. He seemed grateful. Happy for him.
Falconsfan567
Reds had to get special permission to do that and to retire his number 14. That was also part of his ban from baseball.

Slappywhite
Pete was my idol growing up. I wanted to be him, played like him ( or tried ). One day my wife points out to me that Pete was gonna be in Atlanta at an autograph show. i purchased a 35 dollar ball and paid my 45 bucks for his autograph. Stood in line for a couple of hours, I noticed the lady ahead of me had some dinner plates with Petes likeness on them. About 20 of them that she had paid 45 bucks apeice for his autograph. When she got to him he just sneered at her " Now I gotta sign some F'in plates , Jesus Christ!!! " . I had dreamed what I would say to him, how much I admired him, what a great role model he was. But he never looked up, never said a word, just scribbled on my ball and yelled "next" .Anyway, I handed the ball to a kid as i left the autograph show . Shattered my image! Made me dispise him, made me grin just a little when he got banished , I knew karma was alive.

Mike Mussina Curt Schilling Jeff Bagwell Lou Whitaker Alan Trammell Tim Raines Many, many more players I'd support Jackson for the HoF, but he's far from the best player not in the Hall. Dawggone
Tim Raines all day baby. If he'd played in NY instead of Montreal for most of his career he's a first ballot guy. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/14390306/the-hall-fame-case-tim-raines Edited March 9, 2016 by Dawggone insert link

Possibly. Guess its different than football since it didnt seem to hurt LT, Irvin, etc.
