NBC Sports analyst Rodney Harrison told me Monday that he still believes Atlanta wide receiver Julio Jones is a better player than Carolina cornerback Josh Norman but that Jones was limited Sunday in Carolinas 38-0 victory because he doesnt have a quality quarterback.

Normans response: Are you kidding me?

And then Norman said a whole lot of other things. But first, the context.

Put it like this, Harrison said Monday in a phone interview that I originally set up more than a week ago through NBC to talk about the difficulty of going 19-0 in an NFL season. If the entire situation was equal, with Julio Jones having a quality quarterback throwing to him, then I think Julio Jones wins that matchup because I just think hes physically more superior than Josh. Thats not taking anything away from Josh. ... Julio Jones is a **** of a football player. Hes one of the top five players in this league.

Julio would be deadly in a Pittsburgh style offence. A receiver like Roddy was the perfect fit for Ryan. He doesn't have a big enough arm to fully maximize Julio.

lol ive seen Ryan over throw Julio a lot of times through the yrs..

Like I've said in a another thread, get Ryan help on the line. Give the man time to look past the first read then he will be able to look deep down field more.

You can't be explosive with a snotty oline.

Even Rodgers looks average when he has no time

I haven't missed a single snap in approximately 4 years. I honestly don't remember ever seeing Ryan overthrow Julio. Unless you mean passes that were too high, or just completely errant.

Distance? I don't recall that. I DO remember a bunch of times when Julio had to slow down for passes.

If they are going to take a shot down the field it's usually the first read. There were a couple of plays on Sunday where it was really obvious that Shanahan had called for one, the line gave Matt plenty of time, and he quickly checked down to Tamme, Freeman, or DiMarco. I get the animosity towards Shanahan, but he can't throw the ball. Once it's snapped it's out of his control.

Texans game when Julio was a rookie comes to mind exclusively.

The throw in Indy where Ryan threw over 50 yds to Julio between three guys was also impressive.

Julio's preseason game against Pittsburgh he threw another 50+ yds in the end zone, Julio dropped it bit the throw got there.

I really don't understand the Ryan arm strength debate.. he throws the ball fine. His game is about touch not force.

Ex: Andrew luck and Matt Ryan has a very similar arm strength. Luck forces more throws then Ryan, where as Ryan likes to use a lot of touch passes, almost basketball like. But I have seen Ryan gun it in there when he needs to.

just cause you call it doesn't mean Julio is open either. If Ryan throws it up and it gets picked off some of y'all will be giving him heII.

One thing I will say is that I don't think Ryan arm strength is the problem. Its his accuracy going deep which is what I think it really is.

Ryan is very accurate from 10-20yds out but the further you go the more inaccurate he gets.

Thats my take on it, to back it up, I remember roddy said he went deep in practice when Ryan first got here and went deep just for the ball to fall 10yds short.

Roddy: :wtf was that"?

Looking back on that I've seen balls sail over Julio head or he had to slow down for some.

Thats accuracy problems

Open or not, if the QB can't pull the trigger when his team is down 3 or 4 TDs that's a problem. Let Julio make a play on a jump ball. What's the worst that could happen at that point? If he throws a pick trying to get us back in the game you can't fault him for that.

yet some of us will.. just like ppl complaining about the pick in the end zone to Tammie.. he was trying to make a play there and ppl bitcc about it..

I just don't believe Ryan don't want to go deep. Do we all forget when dirk was here..we threw at least 5-6 shots a game.

Now ppl acting like Ryan is a check down qb..

Don't get me wrong, he is having issues , but so is the whole team.

Before the game, Harrison claimed that Norman had never faced a WR like Julio. lol. That's part of what started some of the drama. Norman was like - "WHAT?!" Then when Norman held Julio to zero big plays..... Harrison places all the blame on Ryan. It's not Ryan's fault that Julio heard footsteps and dropped balls that hit him right in the hands.

All things considered, Julio had a good day. He had 8 catches and 80+ yds including a few drops that he probably should have caught.

Never been high on MR. But he's no where near A.Rodgers, Brees, or Brady. I agree.

You could argue Brady is miles ahead of them all. Rodgers doesn't look so great without Nelson & injuries to his OL. Brees gas been 50/50 the past couple years as his OL has turned over.

Meanwhile Brady keeps on clickin.

He did have a decent day. Granted, I think 60 of those yards came after the Panthers pulled Norman out of the game with the rest of the starters, the first time.

The above discussion is a prime example of why eye witnesses are often unreliable. Different people seeing the same thing and reporting completely different accounts! Of course, what people see and how they choose to interpret often it is influenced by their personal prejudices.
