Quinn's Antics Have Worn Off Quickly

TD and Pioli would have hired....Josh McDaniels....but Falcons staffers based their decision on fan response to the name..

Ryan needed McDaniels to maximize his talent...

Beasley would have been an OLB in the Patriots 3-4 scheme...

Sometimes you need an Offensive Head Coach to solve the nemesis of THe Panthers....and The Saints were better agianst The Panthers than THe Falcons with Sean Payton, and THe worst defense in The NFL..

Quinn is learning as an HC, and I have faith in his ability to make the defense elite. But part of being a new HC is recognizing your mistakes and swallowing your pride. The Shanahan hire is not a good fit with Ryan. Quinn will earn my respect if he owns up to this and moves on to another OC.

Remember our coaching search when Dan Quinn was supposed to be the savior according to a lot of pundits and posters?

There was another guy in the hunt by the name of Teryl Austin who was getting consideration. The Detroit Lions DC interviewed here and got into a bit of a tift with Scott Pioli when he was asked about his tenure in the league and choice of OC. It was at that point he truly sealed his fate of not being hired because he showed that he wasnt going to fall in line with the good ol' boy system in place.

Quinn, who already attatched his name with the awesome Kyle Shanahan, fell in line with what Blank, TD and Pioli wanted...a pawn.

While in Detroit, Austin has done more with less as a DC and has been nowhere near as fortunate to have the overall level of talent that Dan Quinn had while in Seattle. It was a key reason I wanted him, knowing that the talent on our roster was hideous. But the rift with Pioli is what excited me more. It showed that Austin was going to be a HC that was more about instilling an attitude that would run from the top down.

So what has Austin done? Here's an excerpt from an article written not too many hours ago:

http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2015/12/ask_kyle_detroit_lions_21.html

I'm going to be honest. I love saying I told you so. I said Quinn would be a flop and that Shanahan was hot garbage. Quinn was aided with having great talent in his system. Furthermore, Seattle has a better scouting system and GM as evidenced by taking guys like Tyler Lockett (who i begged for) and finding a Thomas Rawls as a udfa. Now we're atuck with a penalty filled team made up of a quarterback who doesnt fit the OC's scheme and a defense with talent that has been talentless for all 8 years we've had Ryan

The point I want to make really is not to say I told you so, but to point out that this team will never be anything until some top heads roll. Until you change the attitude at the top of management we'll never be anything.

Rising tide floats all boats. Falcons, like most teams, fell into the trap of hiring people from top tier organizations. Seattle, New England's success had a lot to do with the HC and personnel. Coordinators like Quinn and Assistants like TD, Pioli benefited from the association. Look at how many people from the Belichick coaching/front office tree went elsewhere and failed. Would Quinn had been successful if he was the DC of the Browns or Jacksonville? I think the key to hiring coaches and front office people is to seek out those guys who were able to get the most out of a tough situation. Mike Smith came from that mold when he was hired away from Jacksonville. Teryl Austin would have been a good gutsy hire. Unfortunately, he was not the yes men Pioli or Dimitroff was looking for.

The Seattle Seahawks was a struggling team until Carroll came, but Carroll went 7-9 his first 2 seasons as head coach and the media questioned his high energy approach. I give Quinn 1 more season, but Shanahan and Dimitroff has to go asap. Not all coaches will come straight in and win, it takes time. Look and ask Carolina's coach about it.

Thomas Davis vs Wheeler? Seriously?

He didn't say how good of a LB. Neither did you.

If you think putting Thomas Davis on Julio is a good coaching move....

You agreed that "A linebacker covering a wr" was a poor coaching move, but suddenly it's a difference if it's Davis?

Whatever makes you feel better about the decision to put Wheeler on Ginn. Thomas Davis>>>>>>>>>>>>>Wheeler. No debating it. But you can try.

That is not talent.

You agreed, quoting his post with:

Yep that is a straight up bad coaching issue.

Yet, I give you an example in the same game of the other team using a linebacker to cover a wide receiver and now it's a matter of talent. Lol I didn't say it! You did!
