Dirtybird56
Well yea, I was discounting that because Smitty basically knew he was being fired so he said **** it.I thought today made our problem as clear as can be: we lack talent. We changed coaching staffs and went from losing 35-3 to 38-
dodge_birds_fan
34-3 with a playoff spot on the line? Or 24-2 in an actual playoff game? I wouldn't say far worse. Complete reset after one year has worked how many times? What about saints game in 2011?
FentayeJones
Go check out Ron Rivera's history. Coordinated the #1 defense in San Diego before going to Carolina. Got to Carolina and coordinated the defense to a #28 overall finish, after they were #18 the year before, a ten spot decline. Drafted Luke Kuechly, Josh Norman, Star Lotuleilei, and Kawann Short over the next two seasons. What happened? Quinn has gone through 16 games and seen his offense fall apart. You can say "I told you so about Kyle" but thinking Austin would have done any better with this defense is a bit of a stretch, considering Quinn and Co have done a solid job. Not to mention Rivera was on the verge of getting fired several times before he got his players and system in place.
stizz
Need to fire the rah rah coach, TD and bring back Smith. One of the worst things you can do. Just because Quinn's faults are becoming noticed, doesn't mean Smitty didn't have his own failures.Guys like Allen would be on another team right now and Kroy would be playing 95% of the time. vel
Not to mention Rivera was on the verge of getting fired several times before he got his players and system in place. Every single Panthers fan I know hated Rivera his first season. They loved Cam but couldn't believe they hired a DC who coordinated the #1 defense elsewhere and he produced the #28 defense, just a season after being #18 overall. That kind of drop has not happened here.
coastiemike
Quinn has been exposed. That was a far worse performance than anything Smitty coached.Unworthy of a professional team to be that unprepared and unmotivated.I'm ok with a complete reset of the staff, but it won't happen.Nah. That two point playoff game against the Giants was worse than this.

I liked the fact that Austin did more with less in Detroit than what Quinn had done with obviously greater talent in Seattle. My main point of wanting Austin was his attitude. One that seems like more business than antics. And of course the fact that he wasnt associated with Kyle Shanahan.

JG2008
I got sucked into Dan Quinn the savior of our franchise as well - he seemed like the answer when we hired himand the majority of the message board was thrilled to death when he was hired as well

One that seems like more business than antics. And of course the fact that he wasnt associated with Kyle Shanahan.Fair enough. Personally, I don't think Austin would have fixed much. The offense maybe would be different, but it wouldn't have given Roddy any more life in those legs, or sped up Hardy's learning of an actual playbook, or changed the fact that we have two special teamers in Hester and Weems parading as WRs. At least we wouldn't have the tease of Hankerson. I think we'd be about the same. It's the 5-0 start that skewed the expectations beyond reason. I think Austin gets hired this offseason to be a HC. Let's compare Quinn's three years to Austin's first three years when that comes.
PK Manley
The Detroit Lions DC interviewed here and got into a bit of a tift with Scott Pioli when he was asked about his tenure in the league and choice of OC, Adam Gase. It was at that point he truly sealed his fate of not being hired because he showed that he wasnt going to fall in line with the good ol' boy system in place.Read the second article you posted. The report was that Pioli didn't like his no-name OC choices, so Austin came back later with Gase. If anything, Austin caved to Pioli, assuming a report from 680 the fan actually had any truth to it. Eight Track
Not really buying into that "I told you so" lines unless someone can pull some older threads and show me. Best I remember ... everyone was pretty exited with ZERO "I told you" comments when we were 5-0.

ZoneOne01
Coaching isn't saving this team. Talent will. Better talent will maximize the scheme, coaching, etc. There was a talent difference between Carolina and Atlanta and it showed today. g-dawg
This is a brilliant post. I hope that it doesn't go unnoticed. Quinn is indeed a pawn. There was no way that TD and Pioli were going to hire someone that would challenge them. As long as TD and Pioli are here, were are going to be suffering Falcon fans. These are Belichick coattail riders.Remember all that happy horsesheot when media members would interview Dan Quinn and he would talk about "what an awesome partner he had in Thomas"? It was "Thomas this" and "Thomas that"........Every time Quinn would praise "Thomas", I would throw up a little bit in my mouth.

Now I'm wondering, did Quinn truly feel that way or was he just kissing AB's rear, since AB has adopted TD?
