The book on Kyle Shanahan has always been "great between the 20s, struggles to score points".

That said, he's DQ's hire and Quinn is not going to fire the first guy he called after getting the HC job.

My bet is that the entire front office is replaced, we get a Quinn-preferred GM and they are given a chance to rebuild the OL, WRs and other key positions.

I like how he says Shanny is throwing the ball to x person when highlighting bad plays laugh.png

I don't think that's a bad choice of words. Even though Ryan is the QB, Shanny dictates who the ball goes to and clearly the play designs aren't getting anyone other than the #1 target (Julio) open. That's probably why Ryan is forcing the ball because he knows that the next play call might not be any better

If Dairy Queen or Arthur Blanks won't do something about this, the players better folking mutiny this Sunday. Matts snap count better sound like "FUk Shanny FUk Shanny, MY team GO!". Just turn off the helmet headset, and call their own plays, I'm sure Matt, Roddy, and Julio know enough about routes and plays available that they wouldn't totally embarrass themselves. No way to go but up.

He makes some pretty good points and there is probably some truth in there, but that write-up reeks pretty bad of confirmation bias. In other words, he went into it with the conclusion that Shanahan is "the problem" and only recognized information that supports his conclusion.

For instance, when talking about Shanahan's teams falling apart after a hot start, why did he ignore 2008, 2009, and 2012? Probably because if you include those seasons, they go...

2008 - Started 0-4 and went 8-4 after

2009 - Started 2-3, and went 7-4 after

2012 - Started 3-6, and went 7-0 after

I'd give it more credit if it seemed like he was looking at it objectively, but he seemed to just throw out everything anti-Shanahan he could find. I'm always pretty skeptical when anyone thinks one person is "the problem" on a 53 player football team.

Just a random thought but the Falcons can drive me nuts like nothing else. I swear we do the dumbest **** sometimes. Like everyone, including Julio, wanting some fade throws in the endzone. We don't do it at all but it would be so like us to attempt it Sunday against the longest freaking corner in Josh Norman

Thanks for posting this. There are also a lot of good breakdowns in the comments.

One redditor points out that Shanahan has always racked up yards, but has historically been near the bottom of the league in red zone efficiency. Seems like this isn't the only place he has struggled to properly use his weapons inside the 20.

the excuse was always he doesnt have weapons. turns out he just sucks.

So the proof shown here countless times showing other open players is fake? So Ryan gets yelled at on the sideline when he throws to players not Julio?

Where are ya seeing it said Shanahan tell Ryan to throw to Julio no matter what?

The problem with the offense is this. Shanahan centers the offense around Julio too much. You're thinking "Why is that a bad thing? You just told me that Julio isnt even being targeted in the redzone." Ill tell ya.

The route trees he draws up are for Julio to get open. Thats it. So when Julio isnt open (which happens a lot since he's double covered all the ******* time), Matt Ryan has nowhere to throw the ball. He has to try to force passes he has no business in making. Shanahan is drawing up pass plays with 4 WR/3WR1TE sets, but only using 1 WR. When the first look isnt open, the play is more than likely dead. Hankerson cant catch the ball, and he refuses to implement Roddy into the gameplan even though he's been nothing but reliable this year. Justin Hardy isnt being used at all even he's shown to be competent, and Hankerson isnt. Hank has since been put on the IR, but Hardy + Roddy only got a combined 6 targets last week....what!?

In the second half of the Colts game on Nov 22nd from being up 21-7 to being tied, Shannys play selection was as follows: 13 pass, 4 run. Now I know Devonta was out, but you have the lead. Gotta do better. And when the defense knows who youre gonna throw to no matter the situation, its not gonna work. No mid-game adjustments AT ALL.

Shanny wont take criticism as evident by the fact that he opened the game in the no huddle and threw it to Roddy 3 straight times even when he wasnt open as a troll job to the fans. This is an example of something that’s been pervasive the whole year through. He dictates where the pass is thrown to a fault. I've never seen Ryan have this little of control over the offense. He's not audibling, not calling hot routes, and even in the no huddle which he's amazing at, Shanahan is calling the shots. Its infuriating. He has a lot of history of rubbing his former players and coaches the wrong way.

Good running game, zone blocking scheme works. Red Zone inefficiencies, hot start with a latter season swoon, criticisms of stubbornness and unprofessional-ism, and unwillingness to adjust scheme no matter the circumstances.

Keep seeing similar comments as this pop up on a weekly basis..there has to be something to it.

It is amazing that throughout thick and thin for 7 straight years, with shoddy to abysmal pass protection in many of his seasons here, long in the tooth feature backs like TJax in some of his years, no defense to back him up, multiple coordinators, Ryan has performed an a very high and consistent level, no matter what.

Then, you bring in an OC with a sketchy, inconsistent past, who's teams often start off good then restart to suck, with several players and local media reporting he doesn't get along with players, is stubborn, won't adjust his scheme, and his scheme has a pattern of failure in the red zone and suddenly our offense is playing sketchy, inconsistent football, started off strong then started to suck and is struggling in the red zone to score points.

What does half of Falcon nation deduce from the information available? The problem must be Matt Ryan.

We have some really insane fans.

I've come to the conclusion that the people blaming Matt for this mess are the same ones that were on the "Whatever you do don't draft Ryan" brigade 8 years ago.

A good portion of our "fan base" has been clinging to any reason they could find to tear this dude down for almost a decade.
