FalconTough
The Atlanta Falcons organization has played out almost like a Twlight Zone episode. I can see Rod Serling setting up the episode right now... "Next week we look at a football team, who regardless of players, coaches, and schemes play and lose the same way every year. Is it coincidence? A greater power? Or is it just in the water in Atlanta? Tune in next week to find out."I've been a fan since birth (1994) and remember every season since '98. And I'm astonished how with the amount of different players, coaches and rule changes in the league, we somehow follow a script almost methodically."Things start off great, something goes wrong, we get away with it for a bit, no changes are made, things go bad, we put pieces in place to solve problems, get excited again" - repeat. What do you guys think it is about the Atlanta Falcons that has them doomed to repeat the same patterns over and over again regardless of who's employed? FalconTough
dang, you remember the 98 season? Im 26 and can barely remember that season lolI remember the key points and the entire roster. Going to training camp and playing Madden religiously helped engrave them in my brain haha

raysnill1
this year is an anomaly. it's crazy how we've had so many turnovers in the red zone. how we'll score a TD, it'll get called back or reversed and then we'll throw a pick. or RB will run for 20 to 40 yards then fumble at the end of the run. but I chalked it up to an actual curse after yesterday's run by Winston. dude doesn't fall on a hit and recovers and manages to run just far enough for the first down?? gotta laugh to keep from crying

octoslash
It's all because the original Atlanta Stadium was supposedly built ON or NEAR an 'Indian burial mound'. [The Braves were exempted for obvious affiliation reasons, having won the World Series in that very stadium]. Anyway....The curse has obviously followed the Falcons to the Dome, and will no doubt follow them to the 3/4-empty upcoming shiny new Sphincter Park. And if the OP laments his fandom ALL THE WAY BACK to 1998.....try 1973. Yeah...sometimes I wonder what's wrong with me too.
Old fan
I have been a fan since day 1. I am at a total loss as to what is the curse on this franchise. Two owners, MANY coaches and we stay mired in mediocrity. Every few years the team will go on a run and get everyone's hopes up.Yep, 1998 was the high water mark for this franchise and they managed to blow that one chance.Maybe get a new owner, fire the entire staff, release all the players, move the team to Macon and give them a new name. I dunno, it has been a mystery to me for 50 years. But hope springs eternal. Every season they start undefeated.
Guest since'66
The OP is spot on. And there is nothing at all different about this year than certain years in the past. The best example is the mid/late 80's when David Archer was quarterback. We went 5 and 0. Promptly went on to lose almost all remaining games. At 5 and 0 the AJC took a full page ad out to congratulate Rankin Smith. Then, in true Falcon fashion, the bottom fell out.

The Vent King
It's not just this franchise, it's ALL of the franchises here in Atlanta. The Braves 15 yr barely fruitful run starting in the 90s, Hawks trading Domnique, letting Dieon walk, dog-gate, Eugene "the sex machine" Robinson, John Rocker, Petrino quitting in the middle of season, never until last yr making it out of the 2nd round Hawks, Braves of the 80s, the Smiths, getting embarrassed by the Packers AT HOME as #1 seed, Falcons/Cowboys meltdown of the early 80s (remember Go Braves and take the Falcons with You"?) DeAngelo Small's on the field meltdown, and on and on and on. This is why the fans here are what they are and those outside of that like that lame azz Tiki Barber can only take the holier than thou lazy approach that the fans here suck when really it's the franchises that do and we are not idiots. It's easy to sit on your perch with championships past or present and point your nose down on a city that not only barely has one but outside of that have been an embarrassing joke for not just years BUT DECADES.You watch the same re-run over and over you already know what's coming...why keep watching the same show? Not saying I'm giving up, but I understand ppl that may feel that way...it's hard out here for a pimp!! egoprime II
What Is It About The Atlanta Falcons? Oh, this is easy...I can tell you exaactly why this franchise is what it is today. Its like this... the Falcons have never been a solid pro football organisation. Like the Steelers, Packers, Ravens, Giants. All those teams have a core philosophy in how they draft, the coaches they hire, and how thier team plays on Sunday. Nowhere is this more apparent than the Steelers. You will never see the Steelers hire an 'innovator' coach like Chip Kelly. Or change thier -entire- coaching staffs when its time to find a new HC. ALL coaches tend to be hired according to the team philosophy and not be guys who the head coach is comfortable with. And I do not know of any coach's brothers or sons that the Steelers have hired, simply because the coach wanted them there (Petrino, Shanahan). No coach, or player, is above the team or its philosophy. This creates an ongoing consistency that teams like the Falcons can only dream about. Part 2 below. egoprime II
Now lets look at the Falcons and why they lose. This franchise is the exact opposite of a team like the Steelers. Our team ownership uses the flavor-of-the-moment approach when it comes to hiring head coaches and front office personnel. Dan Quinn is not the first HC we have hired who came from a Super Bowl team, Thomas Dimitroff is not the first GM we have hired from a Super Bowl organisation. Why is this potentially bad? Because the new guys always bring -THIER- ideas of how to do things to our Falcons. They do -not- do what thier former Super Bowl teams did to get where they are. Seattle runs the darn ball more, has always had a solid pass rush. NE has always been solid on the O line and front seven. This is the infuriating thing...neither TD or Quinn, the two men who set the direction of this team, does all the things that got them a job here in the first place. They change things up themselves to the way -they- want things done. And since AB (and the Smiths before him) do not set a philosophy foundation for the team, these unproven people come in and do what they want. Coaches and GMs set the philosophy and directionon of the team. Hire assistants. Determine the formations and schemes on offense and defense. Which means huge roster turnover and no consistency whatsoever. Under the Smiths, you had the added problem of them not wanting to pay players except for QBs. AB is the only one who can fix this mess. But the older he gets, the more desperate he gets for a winner -now-...right now. As fans, we might have to wait for a new owner to get what we want...a winning team.
Bring It
Atlanta Fulton County Stadium was built over a sacred Native American Indian burial ground.A curse is on any thing that took part of that place.
