The Positives From This Year

I know that the sky is falling, but I thought it would be nice to have a thread where people can post what they think have been positives from this season.

I'll start.

Jake Matthews, Devonta Freeman, Ricardo Allen, Robert Alford. All players who have been labeled busts my certain camps who have really stepped up their performances this year and showed they belong in this league. The first two look as if they could be "franchise players".

What have you guys been pleased with?

We have had injuries but not season ending injuries like in previous years.

So we are in position with a full roster going forward. There is really no

reason for us to be losing other than poor play by guys who are capable of

better performances.

I'm VERY excited about several of the young guys going forward:

Watching Vic Beasley SO CLOSE to sacking Bridgewater Sunday really made me realize that this kid is going to be very good sooner rather than later. He just needs a little more seasoning and a couple of more moves.

Ricardo Allen. Man, what a find for the Falcons. He's rarely out of place and actually catches the ball when the QB is baited into throwing it to him. Could be the ball-hawking FS for several years going forward that the Falcons definitely need.

Running game. Devonta runs with an urgency and violence that just can't be coached or found that often. If Tevin Coleman solves his fumbling issue he has a 2nd gear that the Falcons haven't had in a back since Jerious Norwood was here. The Falcons running game all of a sudden is a force.

Justin Hardy. Okay, maybe he hasn't exactly wowed the league yet, but in my eyes this kid just passed a HUUUUGE test by the way he took not being activated for the first half of the season. Did he pout? Sulk? No, he waited patiently for his opportunity. Whenever the ball gets thrown to him all he does is catch the football. I love everything about Justin Hardy.

I love A LOT of the young guys on the Falcons.

I kind of take Beasley for granted, because I don't see him struggling like the folks who only look at the stat line do.

But you're right -- the kid is unreal talented and is getting better each game. If we can get him some help, he's going to be monstrous.

Beasley finally focused on his speed rush instead of doing that dumb *** spin move. Finally doing what makes him win.

Matthews, Freeman, Julio, Trufant, Grady, Ricardo, DiMarco, Bosher, Alford, Therizie, Clayborn, Beasley (flashes), Hageman, etc.

I don't really have any major complaints about the defense. Wish the pass rush was getting home more but the run defense has been strong for the most part, 3rd downs havent been as bad as they were in the past and the defense in general has played well given the limitations of the LBs.

OL has been good in non-clear passing downs. DiMarco has been excellent. Freeman has been very good.

Freeman is going to gget banged up Im afraid, just nature of his style and his frame, overall hes been a nice surprise, hes got greaet vision and understands his position very very well.

I don't think this is true.

He took a shot to the head that would have taken any back out. He hasnt taken a ton of big shots or punishment otherwise.

I dont think theres any real reason to think he's too small or built in a way thats a poor fit. He's compact and thick. That works well for what we ask him to do.

Given that I'm generally annoyed with the team this year, there's a lot to be pleased about. If our offense simply scores 24 in the last several games, the only loss is New Orleans. The offense has been that good for years, so even though it's horrid right now, there's no reason it can't get back on track (whether that's from scheme adjustment, scheme change, or getting used to it.)

The D, while not exciting (little pass rush) is pretty effective, and a couple of players can make them a top 10 unit.

Rookies are playing and getting experience for next year.

If interior OL (including center) and passing game were going, this is a 10-1 or 9-2 team right now. So get it back going.
