Not optimistic at all. What once looked like a pretty easy schedule now looks a few 50/50 games and at least two ***-whippings. After we came out of the bye week looking the same, I figured we were in deep ****.

For the future overall, I remain optimistic. There's no reason to think that this is more than a ****** slump for Matt Ryan. I'm seeing things I like on defense. I like what the coaching staff has done with Ricardo Allen and the OL.

But absent a major improvement in play from our QB and our LBs, this year's team is going to continue to disappoint.

To be honest, the worst thing that could have happened to this team and the fanbase was that 5-0 start. It took expectations to a place where they didnt belong. I was talking with "an inside source" about that this weekend. Not that I typically have "sources" or anything....I was just fortunate enough to spend a little bit of a time with someone who has some serious access. He told me that A) the Falcons love Dan Quinn and B ) that team really is a ~.500 team that outpaced expectations early.

The carolina games will be ugly, but the saints and bucs are VERY beatable. But then so has everone on our schedule so far.

The big problem is, I dont think this team has enough time to figure themselves out. I have a feeling they'll have a couple more good games, but they squandered a good record and would need a miraculous righting of the ship to not miss the playoffs.

In true Falcons fashion, these bunch of gorgons will write another chapter of in the history of football shame by being one of the few teams to start 5-0 and miss the playoffs.

Same 'ol Falcons.

As optimistic as I ever was.....7-9 to 8-8. I think anyone who ever looked at the start of the season and thought they were going to get more out of this team was nuts. I will say that I thought defense would be more of a downfall so I'm surprised there but the writing has been on the wall for the offense what with Roddy slowing down and no elite TE. Shanny has just made it even worse.

To be honest I'm a glass half full guy.

If we lose more games, we get a higher draft pick. We have no huge free agents and we actually have quite a bit of money to spend. Losing means the staff will know there's a problem and it's obviously offensive. (Meaning Shanahan could be gone) if he doesn't leave himself. We have the best wr in football, an up and coming LT and maybe RT some decent guards. An improved run D a shutdown corner etc. much room to improve and a LOSING season will make the staff know we NEED to bring in better guys.

Win more games and we get a shot to upset and go for a sb. Or get embarrassed. Either way, if we make playoffs Shanahan probably doesn't leave. And we get a lower pick.

I'm hopeful at kickoff every week. I decided to go old school watching. If I treat each week as a game in the mid to late 80s, my goals are to be competitive, not so much the final score.

If I go into it thinking this train wreck organization is actually going to win, I know I'm in for a world of disappointment.
