Colorado Springs Shooting At Planned Parenthood Clinic. Three Confirmed Dead...

Recommended Posts

An unhinged, unstable person listens to the news. The person hears the following:

Pro-choice advocate:

"Women should have the choice to determine the outcome of their pregnancies, especially in the case of rape or incest or danger to the life of the mother."

Pro-life advocate:

"Planned Parenthood is engaging in the next American Holocaust by murdering millions of babies a year and selling their body parts for profit."

Which of the two do you think would more likely result in violence?

A white male gunman killed three people, including one police officer, and injured nine others Friday at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs. The gunman has been identified as Robert Lewis Dear. It's still not clear what the shooter's motive was, but it's clear that he started his shooting spree at Planned Parenthood and stayed there.

It's also clear that threats, vandalism, and violence against abortion providers and clinics have escalated since this summer, when anti-abortion activists released deceptively edited videos that accused Planned Parenthood of "selling baby parts."

The FBI saw an increase in "pro-life extremist" attacks after the videos were released

Back in September, CBS reported that the FBI had noticed an uptick in attacks on reproductive health care facilities since the first video was released by the anti-abortion group Center for Medical Progress (CMP). There were nine criminal or suspicious incidents (including cyber-attacks, threats, and arsons) from July, when the videos first came out, through mid-September.

An FBI Intelligence Assessment at the time found these attacks were "consistent with the actions of lone offenders using tactics of arsons and threats all of which are typical of the pro-life extremist movement." Moreover, the report said it was "likely criminal or suspicious incidents will continue to be directed against reproductive health care providers, their staff and facilities."

Less than two weeks after CBS reported that, another abortion clinic was firebombed in California. It was the fourth arson at a Planned Parenthood location in as many months.

"The toxic rhetoric directed at Planned Parenthood has dangerous consequences," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein in a press release at the time. "It sends a signal that using violence to close clinics and intimidate healthcare professionals and women is 'OK.' It is not."

Since 1977, according to NAF, there have been 8 murders, 17 attempted murders, 42 bombings, and 186 arsons against abortion clinics and providers.

Reproductive rights advocates have been sounding the alarm for months

"We have been quite worried that this increase in threats would lead to a violent attack like we saw today," Saporta said.

In an October feature at Broadly, Callie Beusman interviewed Saporta and representatives from other reproductive health groups. They all blamed the videos for an increase in violent rhetoric and action.

Sasha Bruce, senior vice president of campaigns and strategy at NARAL, told Beusman that while hateful and intimidating rhetoric against abortion providers is nothing new, the "intensity and the level" is notable of late. "It is not common that you hear about three arsons in a row; it is not common that you hear about this level of vandalism," Bruce said.

Notably, the Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood health center where the shooting happened is operated by Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains — one of the targets of CMP's videos. One of the doctors featured in those videos was harassed by anti-abortion activists at her home, according to NAF's motion against CMP:

And less than two weeks after Dr. Ginde was victimized by Defendants’ "web series," she was met by a group of 50 extremists at her home, holding signs stating "Planned Parenthood sells baby parts," and leaving fliers around her neighborhood claiming in massive print that "Savita Ginde Murders Children."

Pro-life groups have condemned the shooting, but pro-choice advocates say their rhetoric incites violence

Major pro-life groups have condemned the shooting, including National Right to Life Committee, Americans United for Life, Operation Rescue, and Christian Defense Coalition. David Daleiden of CMP, the architect of the anti-Planned Parenthood videos, also condemned the shootings.

To some pro-choice advocates, it's ironic to hear these condemnations from Daleiden and from Operation Rescue in particular. Operation Rescue's senior vice president, Cheryl Sullenger, was once jailed for conspiring to bomb an abortion clinic. The group has a history of extremist rhetoric against abortion providers; for years the group protested Dr. George Tiller, who was shot and killed in 2009, and called him "Tiller the Killer." The man who murdered Tiller, Scott Roeder, was active on Operation Rescue message boards. And Operation Rescue president Troy Newman, who was recently detained and denied entry into Australia for his extremist writings, is on the board of Daleiden's Center for Medical Progress.

Shootings at abortion clinics are rare, but attacks on clinics like vandalism and arson are common. Incidents of harassment that don't rise to the level of criminal activity are so common as to be routine, according to volunteers who escort women's health patients past anti-abortion clinic protesters. And, they argue, these minor incidents can escalate — after all, Scott Roeder vandalized an abortion clinic shortly before he killed George Tiller.

"Although anti-abortion groups may condemn this type of violence when it happens, the way that they target and demonize providers contributes to a culture where some feel it is justifiable to murder doctors simply because they provide women with the abortion care they need," said Saporta of NAF in her Friday statement.

Vicki Cowart, president of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, cautioned on Friday that we still don't know the motive for the shooting. But she also said that PPRM shares "the concerns of many Americans that extremists are creating a poisonous environment that feeds domestic terrorism in this country."

Sounds like something happened to him over the past several years to turn him from what appears to be a normal southern Baptist and conservative-leaning person into the killer that showed up at Planned Parenthood. Some interesting insights from Dear's ex-wife, including about his political beliefs (conservative but not extreme) when he was married to her:

Wow, just wow. Picking parts from a fetus in the womb should't be controversial according to trout and the left. Sorry dude, but its an abomination and should be outlawed. The Videos showed PP selling off baby parts and discussing it like it was routine. That makes them monsters, plain and simple.

As for your continued attempt to attach this Mentally Ill nomad to a cause, good luck with that. Your partisan holier then now routine falls on deaf ears as you continue to try and protect the killing of the unborn fetus and your lack of awareness of this sin, tells me you're never going to get it.

Planned Parenthood is killing live babies and selling parts. That's a wonderful side to be on Trout.

Meanwhile over 400 people have been killed in black on black genocide in Chicago this year and you leftistas want to talk about the GOP, cops killing innocent people over skin color and politics.

This home grown jihadist wasn't given 2 seconds of coverage. Wonder why?

A reclusive student shot dead by police after stabbing four people in a California university campus attack ‘had far greater intentions to do damage’, Merced County Sheriff said Wednesday.

Faisal Mohammad, a freshman who majored in computer science and engineering at the University of California was carrying highly flammable petroleum jelly, ziptie handcuffs, night vision goggles, duct tape and a hammer in his backpack when he was shot in the back by cops.

In reference to the petroleum jelly, Sheriff Vern Warnke said: 'He had poor man's C4' - C4 being the dense, putty-like explosive used widely by the military and demolition teams.

Moments before he had 'smiled' as he used a 10-inch hunting knife to stab two students, a campus construction worker and a female teacher in a terrifying attack that was praised by an ISIS-linked Twitter account.

Just as you always do, you don't even acknowledge the victims when a thread is created about a tragedy like this and you immediately politicize the tragedy.

You continue to disgust me. There are 3 people dead.

It's not anything the same as condoning violence. It's pretty much the exact opposite of condoning violence. A closer interpretation would consider being pro-choice as condoning violence.

Accusing the government of condoning and providing for mass murder is "pretty much the exact opposite of condoning violence?"

First off, I feel very sorry for the family's that this insane man has changed forever. It looks like a fine upstanding officer was killed in the line of duty as well. This is not a joke, but this is just too much. This mentally ill dude considers himself a "female". So, how can we make political hay with this Trout? What a joke our soceity is becoming.

"He is registered to vote in Park County, Colorado, and The Gazette reports that his voter registration has him listed as an “Unaffiliated female” voter instead of a Democrat or Republican. Dear’s voter registration on Colorado Voters Info lists his gender as “female.”

Mdrake, you aren't a good detective either. I also did not politicize this. I stated this delusional killer is a severely mental ill patient. Trout and company have gone pages trying to tie this to the GOP and the PP video's. I merely came in to denounce the pages of BS that went on.

I don't see on how violent rhetoric is responsible for islamic terrorism but not these kinds of terrorism.

Wonder what the reaction would be if everyone suddenly started talking about the dangers of "Radical Conservatism" in America, and referring to it sarcastically as "The Ideology of Peace". Bet it wouldn't be as acceptable as the rhetoric used against Syrian refugees in that other thread.

This crackpot killer didn't have a TV, was arrested many times, and his voter ID card he lists himself as an unaffiliated WOMAN. But hey, lets go 15 pages of trout trying to tie this on Chistians and the PP video's. BTW - The videos are real, unlike the Bengazhi video.

Regarding the bolded part...WTF? huh.png

Also, I've been very careful from the beginning to withhold judgment about his motive. All of my comments about violent rhetoric are cast in terms of hypotheticals, not this particular case.

There's probably a tip line you can call to help out law enforcement since you have solved this case already, duhtective deisel.

The killer is no longer the story. The dead are the story. This real life hero cop is the story. Learn about him: (CNN)Garrett Swasey, who rushed 10 miles to help fellow police under fire at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, led a big-spirited life rooted in family and faith with the soft touch of an ice dancer.

That's because he won a skating championship decades ago.

Until he was killed Friday in a gunman's attack, he was an elder at the small Hope Chapel in Colorado Springs. Its website features Swasey smiling with wife Rachel; daughter Faith, 6; and son Elijah, who will be 11 this month.

"He might not be in alignment with the abortion industry, but he'd be willing to go in and lay down his life for those people, and that's just the testimony to me of the kind of man that he is. Not just courageous, but Christlike," said church co-pastor Scott Dontanville.

"He would want us to forgive this man (the gunman) and to go on with our lives," Dontanville said.

Of course you politicized it by spouting bs about Chicago, which is the one part of your new screen name that you've been lazy about in covering up, you've been ranting and raving about Chicago for years under all 3 screen names.

Whatever "clever" response you think about responding to this post, just don't even try. I'm sure you'll talk about ouija boards and sticking to boat shoes, and frankly Scarlett, I don't give a ****.

I don't envy the Republicans. They have to pander to lunatics that fantasize about righting the world's wrongs with guns to get elected and then they get blamed for inventing the rhetoric that best satisfies those that put them in office. Some backwoods mutant shoots up a clinic and you have to figure out a way to say he's wrong to do everything in his power to oppose mass murder.

A lot of lefty loons have shot up many venues (killing many people) along with standing POTUS, but I guess you felt it your sense of duty not to include them in this ridiculous statement?

Okay, maybe somebody should start a new thread on this topic. I don't know, but I'll take the discussion about anti-abortion rhetoric to a new thread if someone wants that.

In the meantime, here are some examples of the kind of attacks against abortion clinics we've seen over the years:

Before long, protesters from Operation Rescue showed up at her house. They parked a tractor-trailer across the street, plastered with twenty-foot-long images of dismembered fetuses. From its speakers came the kind of sweet, tinkling music that lures children from their back yards in pursuit of Dreamsicles. One protester, a somber man in a tan windbreaker with a three-foot crucifix thrust before him, performed an exorcism on Phares' front lawn, sprinkling holy water on the grass to cast demons from the property.
Phares, a small-boned woman with an irreverent sense of humor, joked about the exorcism. "Wish he'd held off on that holy water till after we'd put the fertilizer down," she said. But her husband wasn't amused. Since 1994, there have been five assassination attempts on abortion providers at their homes. A few days after the protest, Phares' husband got out his revolver, loaded it and taught Sara how to use it.
Operation Rescue's smear campaign against Phares is part of a new strategy to shut down abortion clinics by systematically harassing their employees into quitting. Banned by law from blockading clinics as it did in its early days, Operation Rescue has taken its offensive to the front lawns and mailboxes of clinic workers. In Wichita, members of the group rummage through employees' garbage in search of incriminating information. They tail them around town as they run errands. They picket clinic staffers at restaurants while they're inside having dinner and castigate them while they're standing in line at Starbucks. Operation Rescue is also visiting companies that do business with the clinic and threatening them with a boycott if they don't sever their ties with the facility. This is America's new abortion war, and the objective, in military terms, is to cut off the supply lines to abortion clinics and demoralize their troops.
Troy Newman, the head of Operation Rescue, calls it the Year of Rebuke — and if it works in Wichita, he plans to unleash the campaign of intimidation on abortion clinics all across the country. "I want these employees to realize that their lives have changed," he says. "As long as they're embedded in the abortion industry receiving blood money, they can't live a normal life. They just can't."
The following link shows some of the rhetoric from Operation Rescue, which is probably one of the most dangerous anti-abortion organizations and has helped orchestrate killings and bombings of abortion doctors and clinics:
This is Operation Rescue's press release following the execution of the guy who killed Dr. Tiller:
Today's scheduled execution of Paul Hill is not justice, but is another example of the judicial tyranny that is gripping our nation. A Florida judge denied Rev. Hill his right to present a defense that claimed that the killing of the abortionist was necessary to save the lives of the pre-born babies that were scheduled to be killed by abortion that day. Our system of justice is based upon 'innocent until proven guilty,' but in Rev. Hill's case, there was no justice because the court prevented him from presenting the legal defense that his conduct was justifiable defensive action. There are many examples where taking the life in defense of innocent human beings is legally justified and permissible under the law. Paul Hill should have been given the opportunity to defend himself with the defense of his choosing in a court of law. [Operation Rescue West press release]
They are literally arguing that killing abortion doctors and bombing clinics is "self-defense" on behalf of the fetuses. This probably best summarizes the point:

Sorry, David Daleiden. You don't get to create fake videos and accuse abortion providers of "barbaric atrocities against humanity" one day and act shocked when someone shoots to kill in those same facilities the next.

And you, Troy Newman -- using Operation Rescue to call for state-sanctioned execution of doctors who serve women -- and then crying crocodile tears when someone takes that vision into their own hands.

It's America. You are free to have your speech. The language you choose matters. You are not free from the judgement of the consequences of your hate-filled rhetoric. ‪#‎ColoradoSpringsShootings‬ ‪#‎DomesticTerrorism‬

I mean **** look at what most of your beliefs stem from. You believe in an evolution that states everything gets better over time. Yet there's no possible way we could build the south American, chines, or Egyptian pyramids today. You want to wag your finger at me yet you believe slaves with stone and copper tools built megaliths. Without any notion of God or gods you still believe we are at the height of man kind and civilization. Ofcourse you do, its the human delusion. I'm sorry most of you believe the lies I really am. But should that stop me from laughing at the chimps in the cage?
