What Happened With The Falcons Doing Charity Events?

Recommended Posts

I seen them doing work around the stadium for the community. But they are now gone.

Last 5 years; under Mike Smith, they did a lot of things. Huddle up, Egleston hospital, thanksgiving with the homeless, and many other things (like cleaning a person in needs yard).

But I haven't seen them. Hand on Atlanta considers them not even part of the team. It's like Mercedes binz took that spot.

You go see the children who have cancer, times.... And they never show their faces anymore. They don't even attend the the mentally handicapped children that you help with horse back riding.

They no longer visit troops (except for the one person at a home game done by home depot)

No longer prep the food for the homeless. Hand out turkeys to the homeless. Other events with the homeless. Cleaning facilities that are for the homes (like painting the doors, cleaning the facility, organizing, etc).

And the event for huddle up bright in a ton of money.

I have seen a couple things. But it's like 5% of how they used to be. Was that something Mike Smith incorporated? (Y'all know I became a fan when Thomas took over). But I just figured falcons were always involved with charity work.

This is really upsetting to me.

Look at how they've dropped off this year compared to 2008-2014

This is a list of communities

This year from may to November they have done 7 things.

Last year from may 2014 to November 2014 they did 18. Bigger events as well.

And this is just the community.

If anyone ever wants to volunteer with the children, helping with the homeless, helping communities, etc. (Time or money). I say to look into hands on Atlanta.

And if you ever want to be part of my team. Send me a message. Or if you want to know my opinion on other places.

But the biggest need is really just helping out with donating time. And there is many events. Sortting out books to give to countries across the world; homeless handing out things, feeding the homeless, just hanging out with the homeless, helping abused children, spouses. Helping non profit organizations, etc etc etc.

Allow me to play Devil's advocate for a second. I've seen some of these charity events that the players attend and some of them look like they would rather be somewhere else than where they are. I'd rather the players that actually want to volunteer be there vs. the players that don't. Kind of a quality vs. quantity thing, ya know?

and maybe that is taking place. But pretty pathetic if you can't help out people in need.

This has nothing to do with money. It's mostly donating time (except for donating money for huddle up which brought in a tonnnn of money. And that was mostly done by people attending the event).

This is more so about people look up to you. So it's setting a good example. And because it's just being a good person.

But here is my rant. They used to. Arthur and Thomas put on a big deal about it. (Look at the NFL video I posted of Thomas, in one of those links)..... But now they are just a mystery.

I agree, they should be more charitable with their time (I would) but, if they don't want to, they don't want to. Brings me back to my original point, I'd rather the players that actually want to do stuff like that participate in those events because you can tell they are into it and actually want to be there. I'm forgetting at the moment but, they didn't do the 'Huddle Up' dinner this year, did they?

agreed. I rather people want to do it..... Just amazes me how many people are part of the team and basically no one does anything.

And that is correct. The huddle up was not done at all this year. I used to attend them. And was called out to attend (even though I was going)...... But this year my wife and I and many other who went and many other business scratched our heads.

Huddle up was great for people who wanted to donate and know it went to truly a good cause. It took that stress off of questioning if the money was actually going to the children.

And it brought out other power houses.

I'm waiting to see what the charitable amount was from the falcons to Egleston this year vs last year..... And I know how easy it is to lie on taxes. So I don't trust that record

As for players wanting to do it. You got me wondering now. Because the old crew big helpers were (players), Smith, Hawley, Baker, clabo, decoud (which I paid him to sell a eaten chicken wing. And he did. And that money went to charity), Rodgers, Ryan, wire, fenneran, Jerry, white (who does his own thing still), Jackson, Turner, Douglas (still does with the Titans), spoon, McClain (huge into it), Goodman (still does), Ryan, the running back behind Turner (his name slips my mind). And there is a few others I'm missing. And then all the coaches, VP, owner, gm's.

But this year I'm just seeing a very very small handful. I don't even see the thing where they remodel a child room, build houses anymore. They used to show it on the big TV at the stadium every game. This year they haven't shown one.

Heck used to if you attend a game on your birthday and told them. They would put a card in your chair.... This year they didn't. Also they have skipped a lot of games with handing out things.

And I hate bringing this up. But the section that usually the troops set at. They haven't done once this year...... They held a college team that was students in the army. And had them put on a show during half time. But it was maybe 30 people.... Nothing compared to how things used to be done.

So going to your point. I guess maybe Mike forced them to do things. And now that so many are not doing it, then others are scared to act out (you know what I mean? You scared to tell someone in fear they'll make fun of you?)

It would make sense that Smitty might have forced them to do some of those things being that he's an older guy. Quinn might not care so much about that stuff (as far as forcing players to do it). I'm wondering how the Seahawks do their Charity work now? Quinn is pretty much a carbon (younger) copy of Pete Carroll

http://www.seahawks.com/community/coaches-players-foundations

So this is just players and coaches who have their own charity. Only Babineaux, Smith, and it seems like one other player have something.

I'm still looking for events. I seen some. And it looked like how we do this year. But they have their own charity.

So maybe it's the players doing it because they want to and not being forced.
