EJmusic
A lot of folks on here are mentioning the west coast offense and footwork and I think you guys might be on to something. I have re-watched a number of games and have noticed something. I do not think he is hurt nor do I think his footwork is bad. I think because of this particular footwork he is being almost robotic and has not been able to play as free with it. That's why we are seeing passes sail or fall short. If you watch the weak attempt of a hail Mary, he was running free. Instead of launching it while in motion, he stops all momentum at the last second and kind of throws off his back foot. It looked like he conciously focusing on footwork for nervous and stopped and three from an awkward place. I don't know how to get gifs on here guys but if anyone can find one of a couple of his errant throws, please post them on here. Thoughts? Thoughts?I noted this yesterday in another thread: "Ryan is moving forward with momentum but appears to stop, set, and then throw. That I don't understand as with that forward momentum I dare say he gets it the extra yardage into the endzone. Am I the only one that noticed that or did I see it wrong...either way I remember yelling "WHY DID YOU STOP??at the tv soon as he threw it and before it got to Fleener?" Good to know I wasn't the only one who noticed that and thought it was off
etherdome
I have been seeing this tread for two seasons. Matt Ryan has been getting by with pretty poor technique. He could be as good as Tom Brady, if only he would be as attentive to details and fundamentals.

Mega Flare
Maybe he can learn some footwork tips from Harry Douglas?

Good to know I wasn't the only one who noticed that and thought it was offI'm not a QB coach or an expert on throwing mechanics but I've seen enough over the years to have a decent idea about them.Throwing on the run doesn't necessarily give you extra momentum. It can have the opposite effect especially when you're trying to throw it 60 yards.I saw Bill Parcells explain it like this. When you're running forward and throw it as you step forward the ball has a tendency to go towards the ground. If you throw it off your back foot it the ball tends to sail high. That's why footwork is so important for a QB. Ideally they want their feet set about shoulder width apart where they can use their lower body to put power behind the ball and still be as accurate as possible. There are guys like Elway and Vick they didn't need to be set to launch a laser 60 yards down the field but they're the rare exception. So in Ryan's case as soon as I saw him have to scramble and then throw the way he did I knew it wasn't going to make it. He threw off his back foot... Ball sailed high so it didn't have the right trajectory for the distance.

I have played sports for years and have always had better length on throws (football, baseball, etc...) when using momentum. But maybe Matt has difficulty in it. I am a big MR supporter and think things will get straightened out...and there is no where near an equal or better option!

Dirtybird56
I saw that too, this is what I posted in a thread yesterdayThat last throw summed up Matt's throwing perfectly this season. That was as hard as he could throw it, but he didn't step into it properly. He was running more horizontal to the sideline, stopped, and chucked it deep without gaining any of the momentum that you use to throw it deep. He's been awkward throwing the ball this seasonHe can throw it further and with better zip when he steps into his throws. We saw him throw it like 64+ yards in the air in 2012 against CAR from the endzone. He's been way too inconsistent this season with his feet. Also our cast of WR's behind Julio aren't very good
