Seattle Wasn't Built Overnight... And The Falcons Are Off To A Better Start

Recommended Posts

Mike Holmgren brought a similar level of success to Seattle as Mike Smith did to Atlanta.

One and done in playoffs and only a hand-full of losing records. Holmgren had one Superbowl appearance to Mike Smith's 0 but also had 1 more losing season than Smith.

The point is that Pete Carroll had a lot to live up to in the same way Quinn does in some peoples eyes. Carroll went 7-9 in the first two years while he built HIS team. Then, it took two more to have back-to-back Superbowl appearances and go 1-1 in the big dance.

In my eyes we are ahead of the curve. However, I'm not telling anyone to stop complaining because that's part of the fun/heart ache in rooting for a team: Enduring the lows make hoisting the trophy that much sweeter.

I'm actually proud that I'm disappointed because it means I'm sold on the fact that we are so much better. Two months ago, I had us going 4-12 again being satisfied with 6-10 because it meant we needed to clean house and rebuild. But boy did that thought change in 2 short months: Quinn did this and it is a good thing.

I actually believe I'll see a Superbowl victory by the Falcons in my lifetime: Rise up!

Unfortunately Quinn is just a wannabe Carrol, and Dimitroff isnt any better than a random message board mock drafter.

I hear you; but concerning Quinn: every piece of fruit comes from a tree. Concerning Dimitroff...........kind of agree. However, he manages the cap very well. I don't want him gone, but I want Quinn to take a bit more control and improve the talent eval process with more of his people in Free Agency and Draft.

Td doesn't manage the cap so there goes that...

I thought TD was reduced to only managing the cap and Pioli was in charge of the draft and Quinn was over all final roster personnel moves.

Anyways

I came to say we aren't the Seahawks. We aren't going to be, we share their defensive scheme and that's it. We should stop comparing their process to ours just like we stopped comparing ourselves to the Patriots over the years just because we had TD in charge. We are the Falcons. If we want to get to Super Bowl again maybe we should start to mimic ourselves and what got us there years ago. The reason we won't do that however is the same reason we should not try and replicate the Seahawks or Patriots, and that's because times change. In The amount of time it will take to become just like those teams the league will be 5 steps ahead of us again. Lets just build a strong identity, find the right players that fit it and then stick to it until we master our own style. Let everybody else do them.

Actually your post omits that Jim Mora took over after Holmgren and was a complete disaster!

Mora has more in common with Dan Quinn than Pete Carol.

The irony is Blank fired Dan Reeves a low key coach who took the team to the Superbowl in 98 had success with 100 million dollar QB in Vick and replaced him with a young coach who in many ways created the same environment that Dan Quinn has this year. Mora like Quinn was a defensive coach and who partnered with a offensive coordinator running the WCO offense.

I remember when a few of us noted that everybody that was giving Pioli all of the credit would be the first ones to blame TD when struggles came. Funny how spot on that was.

Seattle won their division and beat the defending Super Bowl champs in the playoffs in Carroll's 1st year.

The thing that REALLY concerns me is that as the season has progressed the Falcons have looked worse each week after the Texans win.

The team must show improvement at some point this season. Otherwise people are getting fired and next year could be a make or break year for Quinn.

You can't go into the billion dollar stadium having fans not believing in the team and thinking the franchise QB's career has been ruined since the new Head Cosch took over.

Two different teams, two different coaches and front offices.

Still a here and now, what have you done lately league/ fanbase. 5-0 gave unrealistic expectations but there is still hope for this season. Everyone goes to the any given sunday cliche. It's still as true as any.

We look a lot like the 2010 Green bay packers. Not saying we will rally like they did and turn it on in the post season. Still hope, doesn't matter how, just make the playoffs. 10-6 packers vs 13-3 falcons... you know the rest...

I wouldn't say that Dan Reeves was a low key coach.

He took the Broncos to 3 SB appearances(2 of them back 2 back if I can remember) in the late 80s with a young Elway even thought they lost each time.

Reeves was a better Marty Schottenhiemer. Just imagine inf Reeves had won some or all of those SB appearances, we would be talking about him as arguably the best NFL HC in history or one of them.

It sucks that he had a case of the Marv Leavy syndrome(both have 4 SB losses and 0 wins).

Well when Seattle was GREAT they didn't have a 100 million dollar qb on the team. Now that they have a 100 million dollar qb on the roster gobbling up cap space, they aren't nearly as good as they were before.

They still have most of their guys still on defense this season though.

Losing Quinn as DC and a few other positional coaches was only significant hit for the Seahawks defense. They lost their attitude and edginess.

Seems to me there is no escape from ultra negative posters. When the chips are down, these fkups come out like cockroaches when the lights go out.

I can read negative things knowing we are frustrated beyond belief. The trolls are another matter altogether. I have no respect for them so I find myself seeking out posters who have a history of levelheadedness whose critique's are given in good faith without an agenda.

Just the opinion of a fellow agonized falcons fan. PS...not referring to OP.

Reeves was an excellent head coach and still my favorite Falcons head coach.

He was Low key in terms of his approach but he handled his business.

I would call Belichick low key as well because he brings very little attention to himself but he knows how to build a winner.

What Reeves did in Denver was amazing but he also elevated the Falcons to their only Superbowl appearance. Just like you said if a few things bounced his way he would be considered one of the all time great head coaches.

Marty reminds me of Mike Smith in so many ways. I hope we do suffer the same fate as San Diego once he left.
