New coaching staff from top to bottom (except Armstrong, Cox and a few other minors), new scheme on both sides of the ball.. New lineups. This team has so many new starters everywhere in a new system.. Yet everyone expects playoffs and superbowl. I see a team that exceeded expectations in the first 5 games, and has recently shown a new team in a mini-rebuild.Matty hasn't regressed. He's in a system that he hasn't ran since college. Some of the picks he has thrown have been head scratchers and some of the throws have been pretty off. I have no excuse for that, but I believe it WILL get much better next season when he settles into the system and everyone is more comfortable. He's our QB for years to come. Deal with it. Many of you will eat crow and will jump back on ship quickly when he settles.The o line needs some draft picks invested. Center especially. They have been servicable and exceeded expectations for a group thrown together in 1 offseason. Certainly a pleasant surprise..Rb.. Freeman blew everyone's minds. If he can stay healthy- we have a great RB for the next several years. Coleman.. I honestly don't know. More touches will tell, but so far he has a lot of issues. Fumbles are waaaay too frequent obviously. Ward has been a mediocre surprise. He isn't great but definitely fills his role. Dimarco is a beast. Pro bowl level. Who saw that?!TE.. Tamme is a nice stop gap. Consistent for short passes. Toilolo I can't comment on as I haven't watched his play closely.DLine has been much better than last year. Vic is taking his lumps and has graded positively for the most part. He's learning. Soliai seems to get a lot of penalties but has excelled in helping stop the run. Hageman doesn't stand out to me this year sadly...LB play has surprised me. Worrilow and Durant have earned their keep. Kroy has shut me up. Plain and simple. Reed has been a non factor thus far to me.. Seemed we played better without him. Schofield has exceeded his pay.Secondary I haven't watched much so can't comment. I'm proud of our FS though. Kid has outplayed his draft status by far in a foreign position. Collins has a lot to learn. Tru is Tru.Matt Bryant has made me a saaad panda. Missing what is usually money for him. Bosher is Bosher. Better be a Falcon for LIFE.Hester has done great holding the IR down. The IR needed that veteran presence.Edit; forgot WR. Haven't been pleased with WR play outside Julio. Roddy looks old. Hank looks like butterfingers. Hardy is hardly noticeable. Who would have thought this group would look least impressive?With all that said, relax guys. Next season will tell all. With the way Julio and Freeman are balling, good QB play could have put us up there with Carolina but sadly our QB is only good at saying how he has to play better, then proceeding to **** the bed the very next week. Burn the closest Chick Fil A or Home Depot?All we can do is wait and watch (or not) and hope that things click near the end to have hope for next season when we pick up some draft picks to fix our holes.I told you guys to take this year and just have fun. We all knew the team was going to lose some games. I don't know who thought this team was superbowl caliber, but I for one am not upset with what is happening right now.The Falcons should have been reevaluated in 2013 so that in 2016 we could contend. SHOULD HAVE fired smith and gang in 2013 and started the rebuild. Now we have to see what the Falcons wull do in 2016 to get us ready for the 2017 stadium opening. What does that make us?I don't know what's going on with Ryan right now; I don't believe that he went from a top 5 QB to bottom 5 QB in one season- but his stats sure have plummeted. To me that screams a combination of the OC and the OL---and a lot of drops... a whole lot of drops. And yeah... something is going on with Matt, whether it's a mental block, injury or learning curve.I really can't stand Hankerson. I want him gone. Maybe he's a great guy, but I hate how Shannahan seems to favor him in his play calling. His performance does not justify it.The reason I quoted above is that Williams was a really nice find- I look forward to having him around for a while. He's quietly reliable, young and hardworking. etherdome Posted November 24, 2015 Share Posted November 24, 2015 Agree mostly with OP. I do need to point out that Matt Ryan needs to learn the offense, but he also needs to work on his footwork. Throwing deep balls off of the back foot is simply not something he should ever do. Some guys can make that throw in any position, but not Matt (and not Brady, for that matter).
