Questions I Want To Hear That I'm Not Hearing...

Since we have such a girly man press here in Atlanta I thought I would through out some questions I would like asked and answered. Please fell free to add your own...

  • Matt, on every one of your interceptions you have stared down the receiver and defenders appear to be locking in on this. Are you aware of this? What steps will you be taking to correct this?
  • Matt, on your final pass Sunday needing to get the balk in the end zone it traveled only about 50 yards falling several yards short of the end zone. Is your arm ok? Any undisclosed injuries? If not, why just 50 yards? Something happen?
  • Coach Shanahan, was it your game-plan to throw the first three passes to Roddy White? If so, why?
  • Coach Shanahan, Hankerson continues to have key drops now in nearly every game he's played, including a devastating drop yesterday on the first pass of the last drive that would have taken the Falcons to the 38 yard line. Is this a correctable tendency in your opinion?
  • Coach Quinn, do you ever get pizzed? If so, what more will it take from this team for you to show it?

I bet you the answer to every question will be...we have to play better and prepare better.

Its the same ole jazz with these folks. They are well briefed to not let anyone get under their skin.

Plus when you are getting paid what these guys make, you don't give a rats asss what anyone says. You just wanna get home and get in the hot tub and count your money.

I remember myself and a few more getting dismissed before the season started saying Matt locks on to receivers. Glad others are seeing that as well

Most if not all QB's do this to some degree but Ryan is really bad at it. There't only a couple of QB's that don't do this at all and that's Brady and Rodgers.

I remember watching Brady's eyes from an end zone camera in his 2nd Super Bowl. He looked at one receiver to his left, then one in the middle, then one to the right, and then came back to throw a TD to his left. That's four progressions all while under intense pressure. He's special.

That's why I don't get - maybe you have some insight into this?

We saw MR help HD to a 1000 yard season. MR made Darius Johnson look like a good WR. He seemed to be gaining that ability to elevate lesser talent, but then it completely falls off the cliff this season.

The one factor in play here is Shanahan. Do you think that is the reason for this?

Learning a new system does require some adjustments but I can't place the blame of some of Matt's issues solely on this. Some of his interceptions this season he wasn't making in his rookie season when he had to learn how to play in the NFL. It's really bizarre. It's like he's just having a career worst year at the worst possible time. Some are complaining about the play call at the 1 yard line but a veteran QB should be able to handle this without tossing the ball in the lap of a defender.

I do believe that Ryan will come out of this funk he is in. I just hope he does before it's too late this season.

I have to keep telling myself "this is only the first year of the new staff. Not everyone is Mike Smith and can take us to the playoffs in year one."

What i cant answer myself is "why in the h3ll do we lose to every back up 60+ year old on SS"? Cant and should we win atleast 1 game vs a backup? hank is like we are allergic to the post season likes its the flu and we don't wanna catch it.

White... yeah, he got targeted 4 times or so.... is he even in the gameplan to win or where those just symphony throws his way to make fans shut up?

This is coaching and a lack of team effort. When Shanny takes over, Ryan becomes predictable as a 1 eyed leg chicken crossing the road. No matter where he looks its gonna end up bad.

I have a nagging suspicion that MR is the type of guy who just wants to do things the right way and get them done - I think he is really trying to absorb Shanny's playbook and his style without taking into account his own abilities and style. It's like he is putting the system and the offense above his own football IQ (which is very high) and it is causing him to second-guess and make dumb decisions.

He had 0 issues picking up from Mularkey -> Koetter. Now Shanny shows up and MR looks like a college rookie.

Just my 2 cents.

Last night before the night game, Dungy said Matt Ryan needs to learn not to stare down receivers. I,ll take his expert opinion. emot-tiphat.gifemot-tiphat.gifemot-tiphat.gif

Many here where saying that weeks ago. No disrespect to mr Dungy. He is just late on that one.

When your told to throw to Jones in Double coverage vs years of not doing that. Ryan is second guessing where is the safe spot to throw the ball and not get Jones killed.

Welcome to shany football.

I sent the Matt Ryan questions to Steak Shapiro so he can ask Matt tomorrow when he calls in--hope that was ok

And this is a guy that Belichick at one point said did everything "too slow." Went through his progressions too slow. Executed his drop too slow, which resulted in the delivery being too late.

Rodgers got the same treatment from McCarthy. Made him go to QB workshops to develop his footwork and his delivery of the football. Now look at them.

Matt needs to learn the fundamentals again. He was probably so focused on learning the Xs and Os of Shanahan's schemes that he forgot that QB mechanics plays a HUGE part in successfully executing the scheme. Heck, it's probably the most important part.

Brady, besides Peyton, is probably the most fundamentally sound QB in the league and for a long time. Rodgers is up there too. Heck, watching him scramble and you can just tell there is a method to the madness. He looks completely under control when he starts his run, reorients his body and delivers a pass. Tony Romo for that matter too.
