Stats Say Ryan Is The 3Rd Best Qb In The Nfc South

Recommended Posts

Drew Brees NOR 9 101.3 257 370 69.5 2972 330.2 8.0 20 9 13 -1 -0.1 -0.1 1 23 175 4 2

Cam Newton CAR 10 90.1 174 306 56.9 2283 228.3 7.5 20 9 86 382 38.2 4.4 6 20 140 2 2

Matt Ryan ATL 10 89.6 264 403 65.5 2982 298.2 7.4 15 10 24 60 6.0 2.5 0 18 112 6 3

Jameis Winston TAM 10 86.5 183 314 58.3 2405 240.5 7.7 15 9 34 118 11.8 3.5 4 17 120 5 1

Though Winston has a lower QBR, he has 4 more rushing TDs than Ryan. And though he has less total yards than Ryan, he has ~100 less pass attempts.

Men lie, women lie, numbers don't.

Ryan is regressing though. Take away one of the league's best rushing attacks and arguably the best WR in Jones, and Ryan would be benched already like Peyton Manning.

Ryan finally got what he needed, a good run game, reliable TE and WR, better OLine than the last 2 years and a solid defense. No excuses for him.

Everyone was advising yesterday that stats don't matter, wins do. So which is it?

i think people are saying you can't just look at stats only in a vacuum, probably in regards to Cam, which is absolutely true. It just hurts more now he hasnt had to play in a complete downpour the last few games so he stats are going up making lazy people look foolish.

Well if we are going to look at stats, let's look at all of them. Only QB in the NFL to throw for 250+ yards in every game this season and the longest active 250+ yards per game streak in the NFL at 17 games and counting.

Also, Falcons are top 5 or 10 in WR drops and fumbles in the redzone most likely. Ryan has his faults but so does most of the rest of this roster.

thats not very impressive when you look at how many more attempts he has than the other guys who get real yardage by throwing real throws not those little dinks MR depends on to keep his percentage up. and playing indoors for at least half your games also helps. the panthers have played in 3 or 4 rain games which causes bad throws and more drops.

So now playing indoors is held against folks so Luck and Brees fall into that category as well?

no its held against the guys who have to play in down pours or windy conditions, but those concepts are totally disregarded by fans arguing completion percentage. not very difficult to understand.

I know, right? Winston better than Luck, Peyton Manning, and maybe Stafford, as well as Ryan. Who would have thought before the season started?

this is based on QB Rating. Suggesting Winston is better than those guys almost reaches the level of stupidity. There are so many more intricacies to playing the position than just rating, yards, td's and completion percentage. Some of those would be reading the defense, making adjustments, changing the snap count(Cam caused 4 encroachments yesterday), knowing when to get rid of the ball or run and so many more.

It was sarcasm. The purple didn't work.

BTW, if we are going by QBR, Ryan is 12, Winston is 16, and Cam is 20. Let's don't throw out total QBR since it doesn't accurately reflect what is happening on the field.
