Need To Take Notes On Titans D

Blitzing has to be 70/30 with hiding it and all out showing it. Showing it 30% of the time gets the QB antsy, and can force a mistake...While hiding it will surprise a QB. Many good QB's welcome the blitz, because they can dump it off or quickly or step up to avoid it and get a free shot or a run out of it. Mediocre QB's will get hit on it more times than not, and eventually it takes its toll. Blitzing has to be done smartly though, and not all the time, because teams will figure out how to beat you badly with it. Not to mention the roughing penalties that almost always happen when teams blitz often.

I think Quinn needs to blitz on teams with young QB's, or teams with backups playing, because they are more prone to fail against it. The Falcons D plays well now when everyone is healthy, but that is a rare occasion. Not having solid depth hurts the D every week, and not having that one dominant pass rusher has been killing this team for years now.

Front 4 not getting there, so they blitz and its effective every time. For the life of me idk why we don't do that

I do it hasn't been necessary...we at least have one thing (trick) in our back pocket going down the stretch.

I might be one of the few that is glad we haven't blitzed much...and ecstatic we can be stout against the run.

Bengals??? I thought he was Steal-errsss DC

LeBeau was DC in Cincinnati first under Sam Wyche. That's actually where he developed the concept for the "zone blitz."

They did last night. It brought them back in that game.

Seattle played 83 defensive snaps last night and brought pressure on 20 of those snaps. That's 24% pressure, which is right at their season average, which is I'm sure right around Atlanta's blitz percentage.

They brought 6 total pressures in the 1st half. EVERY one of those pressures resulted in either a 1st down conversion or penalty that kept Arizona drives going.

Second half Seattle brought 14 pressures on 37 snaps. 2 of those pressures resulted in the touchdown/turnovers in the which gave them the lead, but once Arizona made the adjustment, Palmer went 4-4 against pressure for 3 first downs and the game deciding TD run on 3rd down which was against a blitz.

I heard one commentator say that one reason we can't blitz more is that we don't have the speed to get to the QB, especially at LB. How many times have you seen the QB just turn and outrun our D in the backfield when they penetration through the line? All the QB has to do is roll out and someone is going to be open becasue we sent extra men after him.

Without looking up the stats, it seems like to me that we blitz about the same amount as the Titans do/did --- I watched that game, and several others that the Titans have been in (I've also seen all of the Falcons games), and it didn't seem to me that they were blitzing any more/less than we do.

Blitzing can be good, if it's done at the right time, and in the right place in the game --- but, you can also get your butt burned, too!
