Ufc Rousey Vs Holm Tonight...

Recommended Posts

The truth is, she may have been told, "Look, your fights are starting to garner less and less PPV revenue. People are tired of paying for submission fights. You're going to have to make things a little more exciting; try throwing down with her..."

Now that she's been beat (ala Douglas/Tyson), the rematch will likely be the bigger payday...

"I said this horrific, awful thing but deleted it after people criticized me for it, so it doesn't really count."

I'm starting to suspect that you're a sociopath. Seriously, no jokes or exaggerations here. The behavior you've shown on these boards is borderline sociopathic.

He fits many of the clinical signs. The complete lack of self-awareness is a huge red flag.

Was in Vegas and actually contemplated getting tickets but due to both titles being up for grabs the nosebleeds were $300 each and I passed.  Holm/Tate was a really good fight.  Interesting that they both ended in similar fashion.  McGregor has hands but his ground game is suspect and that seemed to hold true.  He jacked Diaz up early but once he got to the ground he tapped quick.

MacGregor isn't bad on the ground. He's a BJJ brown belt and he pulled off a very slick sweep in the first round. Diaz just pieced him up with his boxing to the point that Conor went for a takedown and going to the ground against a black belt like Nate when you're already hurt is never going to end well.

As for Holm, she's got to get better on the ground. She's strong and defends takedowns well, but when she is taken down she looks pretty clueless. She doesn't need to become a submission specialist, but she needs to learn how to escape and get to her feet. She would have won easily if she could have done that.

Eh, it's been debated for years.  Maybe it's not terrible but his critics have said it for years and I kind of agreed.

I also wonder if him going up in weight was an issue.

One thing to keep in mind is that MMA BJJ and tournament/competition/class BJJ are 2 different things.  So it's possible that McGregor is a fantastic BJJ brown belt who doesn't have a good MMA ground game.

There was a while that BJ Penn was known more for knocking people out than working his spider guard.

Grappling is definitely not his primary game, but you don't become a brown belt in BJJ without knowing what you're doing on the mat. His problem was that he was on the ground with a very good black belt and was already hurt.

It's very possible that going up in weight was a factor. MacGregor landed some good shots and busted Diaz open, but the power that flatlined Aldo and Mendes may not have translated to 170.

There's a HUGE difference between sport BJJ and MMA BJJ. I train at an MMA-centric gym and their no gi classes are all about getting top position and maintaining it. There's a reason you don't see people pulling guard very often in MMA. A whole lot of bad can happen on bottom when punches and elbows are in play. Even if your guard is good and you aren't talking any damage, the judges see being in the bottom as losing the fight.

Holm fever died out as fast as it started out here in the land of entrapment

She'll be back. It seems that the public has the attitude that if a fighter loses, they are done. Everyone loses at some point, especially in MMA. Holly got caught and choked out by a world class grappler. It happens. The idea that this makes her somehow damaged or not good is something I never understood.

Yep, agreed.

That said, Cyborg debuts in the UFC this weekend.  The whole division will be put on notice.  Cyborg has the ability to clean out that division.  Rousey, Holm, Tate would all pretty much have no chance vs Cyborg.

She's fighting at 140 so it's not in the Bantamweight division. She's not going to be able to clean out the division until she can make the weight for the division.

A puncher's chance ya if she got a good hit in.  That said Cyborg is as good of a striker as Holm but bigger, stronger, and more aggressive.  Cyborg is also a far superior grappler than Holm.  I don't think any of the top 135 pound women match up well against Cyborg.  If Cyborg makes 135 then poor Dana's gonna have an ugly champ which is what he's been trying to avoid.

Yeah she would dominate if she ever gets down to 135

OK ya you guys are right.  I don't know where that other 4 pounds is going to come from.  Her body fat % must be like 4%.

Also if you think Leslie Smith might pull a "Buster Douglas" tonight, you only have to wager $10 to make $100 per the betting odds. If you want to bet on Cyborg you have to wager $1200-$2000 to win $100.

This is a joke of a matchup. Leslie Smith should tap when they ring the bell and announce her retirement. Seriously, she's going to get hurt. She is not in the same league as the elite fighters.

With Buster Douglas, Tyson fell into the trap of partying and living life on the edge before that fight happened. Cyborg is focused on training. I wouldn't give Leslie Smith the same chance as Buster Douglas, and Buster was a 40 to 1 underdog in that fight. I'd say Leslie is closer to 100 to 1 for this fight. And the 1 in 100 is if Cyborg has a sudden negative reaction to the years of steroid and HGH abuse.

You never know.  Leslie could kick Cyborg in the ballz.

Lol. Leslie is way too slow and weak for this matchup. It's not even close to a fair fight. I'm surprised the UFC didn't give her a tougher matchup in the hopes that she gets beat before they have to put her in with one of the faces of women's UFC.
