Let's Pretend We Don't Have A Makeshift Offensive And Defensive Line...

Recommended Posts

Falcons Nation,

Matt Ryan is on track to being sacked at a rate between his two worst sack seasons and that's not counting sacks that get marked off because of defensive penalties. Can the line hold up enough to allow deep patterns to form? I think not. So, yes Shannahan's offense his been check downs and routes under 10 yards; but it seems derived more out of protecting the quarterback than him running out of ideas or being stubborn. I was at the game sitting in the falcons section yesterday and these seemed to be the biggest complaints about the offense.

On the defensive side, it sucks that we've played against no name quarterbacks as if they Tom Brady or Aaron Rogers. But any QB becomes confident when they don't get hit and have time to throw the ball. It sucks when you have to rely on dropped passes and penalties for your defense to get off the field. Top defensive teams are showing us the benefits of a talented defensive line: Pressure and SACKS = More erratic throws which lead to more INTs and more fumbles lead to turnovers.

In summary, our trenches are holding us back and we couldn't fix it in year one. Stop calling for Shannahan's and Quinn's head.I still see great things for the future. Don't mortgage tomorrow for short-term gain today.

The lines have been a problem for years despite the changing of OCs, DCs, position coaches and now even HCs.

The one constant during those years?

Dimitroff.

Our Oline is playing at the level expected given what we've invested in it over the years and how we scrapped it together literally the week before the season began

This is just one unit on our team - think about what talent we've developed or acquired for it since Ryan's been here. Literally Jake Matthews and that's it. Baker with his injury issues, Konz being a massive bust, Hawley's gone. Schraeder was a nice UDFA find

8 long years and we've got Jake Matthews to show for it - with a top 10 pick that was out of absolute necessity. It's like this for several units on our team and DQ can't overcome it all in one season

That is why I believe additional structural changes are coming in the offseason. It's amazing we're 6-3 now when we were bracing ourselves for 3-6 before the season started. The roster has not been turned over to the degree that it can be.

I'm just glad we're not Gus Bradley who: Put 31 new comers and rookies on the field, had 37% of his roster made of rookies and first year players, and went 4-12 that season. He's still overcoming crap in Jacksonville and I don't know of any big names on their roster besides the so called Blake Bortles.

We will be a great team and not Jacksonville.

Yep! And he and his bandwagon of Patriots cast offs can leave with him. This guy has NO clue on how to build a team. 49ers played guys off the street and practice squad yesterday and I'd venture to say they're better than our so-called starters.

I don't want the falcons to have a losing record and miss the playoffs, but I've got to think Dimi is given the boot if that happens.

He reasonably could get it anyway. If the post-season report by Quinn is "none of these guys could play," then I don't expect Blank is going to say "cool, let's see if he can do better this year."

Or promoted. That's the career path of a failed GM under Arthur. Maybe Rich McKay needs a valet.

kinda disagree especially yesterday, he had good pocket for most of the game, either he holds the ball too long or he short hops to a wr

I didn't see a good pocket. I saw a QB finding room as the walls caved in horribly. And I'd hold the ball too looking at how tight the windows were. The back-end of the field was empty quite often because the routes were ran underneath and San Francisco played underneath and blitzed to keep the passes short.

Niners coverage was begging the Falcons to stretch it. They couldn't do it except for the end of the half bomb to Julio.
