The I Love Shanahan Thread

Definitely the fun name to spell. S-H-A-N-A-H-A-N. You have to love that.

Other than that I will enjoy when some other team hires him to be their OC and our defense gets to play against him. But Shanahan's offense would probably have a banner day against our defense.

1 playoff season out of 7 and Shanahan is something special?

His offense did well in the first 2 years at Houston but was that just because it was new to the league?

He had a good year in 2012 with Washington but was that due to the arrival of RG3 and Alfred Morris more than him?

2008 Texans 8-8, 382.1 YPG (3rd)

2009 Texans 9-7, 383.1 YPG (4th)

2010 Redskins 6-10, 335.9 YPG (18th)

2011 Redskins 5-11, 336.7 YPG (16th)

2012 Redskins 10-6 (playoffs), 383.2 YPG (5th)

2013 Redskins 3-13, 369.7 YPG (9th)

2014 Browns 7-9, 324.6 YPG (23rd)

2015 Falcons 6-3, 402.2 YPG (5th - but was better)

Our offense seems to get a lot of yards still but is it producing points? Did we actually do better in prior years even though the yards were not as high?

Before Shanahan:

2014 Falcons 6-10, 378.2 YPG (8th-but less time on field due to defense)

2013 Falcons 3-13, 343.1 YPG (14th)

2012 Falcons 13-3 (playoffs), 369.1 YPG (8th)

2011 Falcons 10-6 (playoffs), 376.6 YPG (10th)

2010 Falcons 13-3 (playoffs), 341.1 YPG (16th)

2009 Falcons 9-7, 340.4 YPG (16th)

2008 Falcons 11-5, 361.2 YPG (6th)

I didn't know it was only the offense that decided if a team reached the playoffs?

It's love/hate with me right now.

Love - he's designs some great plays. He's transformed the offense into what we've been asking for (when it's working). When it's working only the best in the NFL will be able to slow it down.

Hate - it's a slap in the face to fans, the team and Roddy that he's being so underutilized this year. Also, lately he seems to be to focused on getting the ball to only a few player for most of the game. Forcing things to JJ has been crazy. We even forced it to him when he was hurt......eeesh, adjust stick and move stick and move then move and stick, switch it up.

I think once everyone has the system down he'll be able to spread the ball around more but I'm going to guess it'll still be heavy dose of Julio. I want to know more about what's going on with Roddy. If it's just a combination of Julio being the primary read and not having enough time I could accept. If it's him getting the cold shoulder because he talks then I'm 100% not ok with that. You don't ever, ever, ever, never let personal vendettas get in the way of the success of the team. To me that would be unforgivable.

Good post man.I agree the play design is on point the movement of pieces is also very hard to defend. The first 5 games have already proved his offense can be a thing of beauty.

I don't know why Roddy has seemingly been ostricised I would'ntlike to speculate.

Total Offense - #5 with 402.2 yards per game

Passing Offense - #5 with 288.3 yards per game

Rushing Offense - #15 with 113.9 yards per game

Matt Ryan - #4 in passing yards with 2702 total yards, #9 in completion percentage (min. 100 atempts) at 66.9%

DeVonta Freeman - #2 in rushing yards with 721 yards, #1 in rushing touchdowns (9) and #1 in total touchdowns (11)

Julio Jones - #1 in receiving yards with 1079 yards, tied for #6 in receiving touchdowns with 6.

Now what I don't love about Kyle Shanahan is the way he keeps fumbling the football in the redzone... oh... wait....

We actually have, not only a running game, but the best running game. Any other falcons team and he'd be a god for this alone after what we had before him.

That's pretty much all I got, but if Ryan gets out of his funk and talks shanahan into doing it his no-huddle way, then honestly I don't care what they do if we keep running it down peoples throats.

Yes, a lot of bad play calls too, but this offense has shown an ability to be completely dominant when they're clicking on all cylinders. It isn't going to click for players or coaches over night how to play this chess match, but look around the league, it can always be worse...

I think his offense is badass if its run right and if that is even possible - thing is with our talent they thought we could pull it off - we cant cuz we dont have the oline talent for the plays to develop and beat ppl - thing is really, most of the Ocoordinators inthe NFL scheme works great when the oline is doing what they are supposed to - its not some magic mystique ppl think it is, players will tell you - they basically run a lot of the same plays, its just getting it to work with ur personel -

O-line woes plus turnovers plus missed assignments plus a very uncomfortable QB (whether the protection is there or not) will make any offense look bad.

I know it's fashionable to hate on Shanahan right now, but I have a very good feeling some of these folks are going to be feeling pretty ridiculous this time next season. Maybe by the end of this season. We saw early on how Shanahan schemes guys open. He can't make the line block, the receivers run the right routes or the QB to make the right decision. I'd bet if we upgrade the center position that alone would get us back to respectable on offense.

I agree man. I dont have a problem with Shanahan at this point. This team is actually meeting all my expectations for this season. And in some cases like the run game, run defense and overall defense the team has exceeded my expectaions.
