You Know What's Weird?

Recommended Posts

Everybody agrees Ryan will never be Brady or Rogers. We understand that. Just to have a QB in top 10 or top 7 or wherever you draw the line is a blessing.

We have that guy but haven't had the perfect storm of coupling him with that dominant D or even a badazz Oline.

So we all know now that he needs some help. Our D is on the way up and we have the makings of a nice ground game. SB's are won as a team and I hope we can form a solid nucleus under Quinn.

Just a playoff win would be awesome right now. One thing is certain, It feels really good to be 6-2 after the last two seasons.

Again: he is transitioning to an entirely different type of offense. Everything about the WCO is fundamentally different from what he is used to. It takes at least a year for the whole offense to get the WCO down pat and on the same page. Matt Ryan is out-performing every other quarterback I can remember that was in a WCO-transitional year.

Why don't folks get this! Like who the heck goes to a beams new, totally different offense and excels immediately. The fact that he's only struggled the little bit he has is a testament to how good he is. Kaepernick got benched. Look at Matt Stafford and Joe Flacco. Geez

Did you know points win games, not yards?

Like everyone saying HD was great, he had 1000 yards. But he didn't score ever so we won 4 games. There's a big difference

Did you know Eli threw for 6 TD's this weekend (wow fantasy points!), and the Giants lost?

Did you know we're 6th in PPG with 26.6?

Did you know we have 11 rushing TD's, the most in the NFL?

Did you know rushing TD's count the same as passing TD's? Well...not in what's important to you....fantasy points if you have Ryan as QB.

Did you know the rest of us don't care whether Ryan passes, or Free runs it in....just score the TD?

Love the guy! I want him and no other qb when it comes time for a Championship. He deserves this as do the players, staff and fans.

Watching him grow from a young man to an All star QB, he's like our child in a way and we want the best for him and our team.

Yes, we get mad about some of things that happen, but remember one thing.....This young man was our savior after 07! We can't forget this!

I'm proud of who he is,and what he is to this franchise.....Most of us here will be even more so, when we hoist that trophy up one day for the world to see.

If Flacco and E. Manning can win superbowls, so can Matt Ryan.

Truth!

To me, he is better than both of those. Matt has had his good&bad days ,but let's look at his career.. All his weapons? Well most of his career, his weapons have struggled to stay on the field. Roddy has always been a good WR,never really great, not julio level. HD was a guy who disappeared alot and would drop catches when he did. Not to mention the times these weapons have let him down in key games & situations. Roddy&HD have dropped several beautiful passes by matt that should have been 6. Even remember Tony G doing it a few times. Julio goes through fumble & drop happy periods. Twice in his career, his weapons have lead the league in drops. This is not a knock on them,it happens.

Then you have the oline and defenses who have both been a joke his whole career. Something Flacco&Manning had. Matt has never had much protection, not even decent most of the time, and he had to try to do score ever time he touched the ball. Now we have him in a all new system at 30. All that.

That's alot of pressure that SB winning QBs dont have to deal with.

Also you think of how many game winning drives he has, he is clutch. He would have had more if the defense hadnt blown a bunch more with little time left. The few times matt didnt get it done, everyone is ready to hang him. You in that situation as much as him, you are gonna fail sometimes. It happens!

Then look at Ryans TDs, how many times has he drove us down the field to inside the 5, handed to the back to punch it in or handed it to them twice, then only had one shot at the end zone , nothing there, so just threw it away for 3. How many times he has hit wrs perfect allow them to run,but they fumble or are tackled just short of a TD. These are not excuses for him or his fault. These are falcon problems. Things we just cant seem to get it all together at one time. Its a team game, takes everyone helping and lifting each other up to do it. We haven't put it together yet as a team. Hopefully we will soon.

Point of all this, its a team sport, & we have failed as a organization to get it all together at once. Then you need a little luck too! We have a good quarterback, we just need everything to come together at once!

And when are we just scoring the TD's? Freeman hasn't had 1 in two weeks, Ryan has one more TD than he has turnovers. Our offense is struggling mightily, it could use touchdowns however possible and it's not getting them largely because Ryan has turned it over in the red zone so much

And the fantasy football responses are so outdated and such a cop out argument. We are playing bad football but Ryan has yards!

IMO Ryan is plenty good enough to win a SB. All QBs throw a WTF int from time to time. Ryan hasn't played his best this season but he's getting a lot more blame than he should be.

1. Ryan can't help bad snaps.

2. He doesn't seem to have the control over the offense like he has in the past. That's either Shanny not allowing it or he hasn't totally grasped the offense yet to do it.

3. Need more no huddle. Ryan is def. rhythm based and seems to really get it going when he is calling the play.

JMHO

I believe he still needs a better QB coach...Commentators blasted his footwork vs TB, plus he missed Roddy for an easy TD from about the 10 on one play.

Ryan is weird. He plays better when he has to, with his back against the wall. Whether that's trying to make a comeback or when he knows he won't be getting much help. It feels like he does worse the better our defense does. Totally unrelated I'm sure, and probably more related to Shanahan's level of control or the scheme change than anything, but eh. My thoughts.

Ive always felt the same way. Matt plays better with his back against the wall. Seems like through his career, every time we get him a new weapon or the more weapons he gets, he struggles for a while. Now i think he has no control in this offense&is still learning it.

Sometimes i wonder if he would be better with a great oline, good defense& a bunch of mediocre wrs. Let him run the offense. I think all these toys and big names around him make him push to hard.

He played a lot better last season, but I am going with the current thinking that he is learning a new system. Although, I must say he looked better as a rookie than he does this year, so not sure how valid that thinking really is to be honest.

Regardless, I do believe our post-season woes had more to do with a pitiful defense than Ryan. With our defense showing vast improvement already, and a reinvigorated running game, I think Ryan has all we need in a QB to win in the post-season.

Not gonna lie, he did seem to flip the switch after he slammed his helmet on the sideline.

Yes, he did look way better, but how much of that was because the Bucs were swapping yards for time on the clock with a big lead in the second half. I've never seen him look worse at any point in his career than right now. If he hasn't just completely lost it for some reason we don't know, then this transition to the WCO has just overwhelmed him. So much so that at mid-season he actually looks worse than preseason. I sincerely hope he gets it together this week, but I honestly don't know if we can expect any significant improvement the rest of the season judging by current events.

I think there is no doubt Matt is a very talented QB but right now it appears he already knows who he is throwing to when he breaks the huddle and stares that receiver down and if he isn't open then begins his check down usually to Devonta or someone in the backfield or close to the line. His plays are predictable at times and I also think he "short arms" his throws and wish he would stretch the defence a little with longer throws.

*Sigh.

Passing TD's is a small part of the whole picture, which you clearly can't see.

He's the 5th fastest ever to reach 30,000 yards passing, and the 4th youngest. Don't you think that's pretty **** good?

Marino/Warner - 114 games

Peyton 115

Rodgers 116

Ryan 117

Brees 120

Great , so Matt "wins" the stats game.

Lets compare his Superbowl wins and even his playoff wins against those same guys you listed and see how he compares.

I think he was fed up with what's been going on. I can confidently say one thing here, a ticked off Matt Ryan is a good thing for the Falcons as a whole. He will be fine imo. I understand the concern the fan base has had, but to me, if this is what we get when Matt is playing poorly, we're going to be ok. I think his demise has been greatly exaggerated.

And the funny thing is I knew it came on when he slammed his helmet. Everytime I've ever seen him get visibly mad he comes back out and balls out. Maybe we need a pisser offer before each game to make him mad like dude in Jacksonville had before each game. Lol

Greatly exaggerated. The thing I keep trying to stress to everybody is learning 3 systems in 8 years is no easy feat. The problem is they keep trying to compare Ryan to qb's that have been in their systems their whole career. Every system takes time to learn the nuances of. Not the basics necessarily but the nuances. He has the basics and the concepts because he's a smart qb. It's the nuances and taking on new plays each week. Ppl are forgetting that the playbook was scaled down to give the line time to gel. The playbook is opening more and more each week.

Never been an overreacter. While ppl panic around me I was always the guy that was trying to figure a way out or how to fix it.

That's pretty much my job as a producer. I have to control the session and deal with a million ego's and personalities at the same time and when something goes wrong I fix it. So I guess I'm used to staying calm when everybody else goes into panic mode. It's like everything slows down for me while its in hyper speed for everybody else.

I teach kindergarten so I'm the same way...except when it comes to my Falcons, completely irrational then.

I totally understand. I basically deal with a bunch of kindergarteners lol. Actually I commend you for that. That's a tough job there. Most parents can't deal with 1 child. You have to deal with a classroom full. Wow!!! Kudos.

As for them birds I guess that's when the former player comes out of me. I have a tendency to sympathize with players so I go a little deeper with the X's and O's. Do I guess I've taken on the job of trying to calm the board down when things don't go our way. Lol 😅

That's our biggest issue that I've seen - when Matt Ryan is allowed to run the offense and get himself into a rhythm, dude looks like Tom Brady on his A game out there. The problem is this Shanny offense doesn't really allow for that.

They need to find a balance and get there quickly to salvage this season.
