FLOWERY BRANCH – Despite never being listed on the team’s injury report, there was rampant speculation on the local sports radio circuit that Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan must be injured.

On his weekly appearance on 680 The Fan, Ryan dismissed those concerns.

“I am healthy,” Ryan said.

The normally accurate Ryan has thrown two interceptions in three games this season, and has completed less than 60 percent of his passes in two of the past three games after a stretch of 14 consecutive games where he completed 60 percent or better.

He tracked all of his problems to execution of the new offense. He cited a tipped pass on one of his interceptions against the Titans and he wished he never made the throw on the screen pass in the 10-7 win over Tennessee.

Ryan also discussed his incompleted pass to Julio Jones on fourth down, which ended with them having an animated conversation on the sideline.

He also discussed Jones’ touchdown catch where the Titans tried to cover him with linebacker Derrick Morgan, the former Georgia Tech standout.

“We’re going to win in that situation 100 out of 100 times,” Ryan said. “Julio is just going to be patient with that route. He’s physical enough that even if a linebacker gets his hand on Julio, a lot of guys are not big enough to take that contact. But he’s just as strong as those guys and is able to take the contact and come out of it and then finish with a strong finish into the end zone.”

Ryan also discussed the failed attempts on third and fourth down from the one-yard line.

“On the third down situation, we obviously felt like we had a good chance to kind of (win) back with the fullback,” Ryan said. “It was something that we’d seen on film that we felt really good ab out. I thought it was a good call….then on the fourth down call, it’s a thing where when you get both guys out, you’re hoping that the play-action freezes one of their DBs. They played really discipline on our No. 1 read. On a fourth down situation, you have to try and give a guy a chance and put the ball into the end zone. Unfortunately for us it (got) tipped. . . .you’ve got to be aggressive in those situations and we were.”

Yeah, my first thought on the endzone interception was "Ryan should never have thrown that. Bad decision."

But, as Ryan points out, it was FOURTH DOWN. An interception there is no worse than an incompletion. So the right thing to do is take the shot. In fact, it almost worked out.

Still, Ryan played like dogcrap for most of the rest of the game and handed the Titans their only points.

While I somewhat agree with you, there's a big difference between the Titans getting the ball at the 1 vs. them having it at the 20

To play so badly that people think you're injured, I'm sure that's an eye opener for the man.

That's the immediate thought I had...

I'm a freelance illustrator. If my work started suffering to the point where my clients were asking me if I had a sprained wrist, arthritis, broken fingers, etc. I would definitely know that I needed to produce better work.

Yea but that was his non throwing shoulder. Wouldn't have an impact on his health on his throwing arm.

I know, but if throwing at the NFL takes your whole body working 100% it could effect his mechanics. Idk, I've just noticed he hasn't threw any deep balls since then.i know some of that is the Oline, but I've been watching him since that injury

Didn't really have time in 13-14. He did throw deep balls tho.

New system. Like I suspected. Ryan will get it together. It's just taking time.

That's how I feel as well. Well that and the play calling has been a little too cute for my liking over the last couple of weeks. We should have ran the ball more, it was working.

People will continue to speculate that it's this or that but it really comes down to him getting more comfortable in the new offense.

While the last game was ugly we still got the W and if the offense and defense can start putting good games together at the same time this team could be scary. Only time will tell.

Someone mentioned his offseason workouts. I think this is key. Like any professional, you have to practice your craft over and over and over again. I think he spent alot of time learning a new playbook, new coaching staff, being more mobile and coaching up other offensive players. ****, how many times is he setting WRs, RBs and TEs in right position before snap.

I think he spent less time working on strength training, foot work, etc. Somethings off for sure. I think he'll correct it though. The over the shoulder throw to Tame was awesome. And throw to Julio for TD was on mark.

How do you produce better than amazing?

It is probably good I am back. Someone has to drop the truth bombs.
