Gotta Win The Division....if Season Ended Today (Newsflash - It Doesn't) - This Would Be The Playoffs

NFC:

#1 seed: Carolina (6-0) and (3-0) in conference (not sure what #3 tiebreaker is) - NFCS

#2 seed: Green Bay (6-0) and (4-0) in conference - NFCN

#3 seed: Arizona (4-2) - NFCW

#4 seed: NY Giants (4-3) - NFCE

#5 seed: Atlanta Falcons (6-1) - Wildcard

#6 seed: Minnesota Vikings (4-2) - Wildcard

The #1 and #2 seed could be flipped but Carolina has the easier remaining schedule. The Atlanta Falcons would travel to New York to play the Giants - uggh!

Panthers still have to play Green Bay here on Nov. 8th, home game of course for them and they still have to play us twice, and they are 2-0 in the division as of right now.

Giants don't look that good so I actually wouldn't mind traveling to New Jersey for a road playoff game.

yeah, we said the same thing in 2011 season when we went up there favored and laid an egg - lost 24-2.

you guys take too much for granted - hard to win road playoff games - even when you are the better team.

So we have the same personnel, same coaches from 2011? Giants are also different from 2011. Different regime, different teams. It's not taking things for granted. I'm basing it on best case wild card scenario. All things equal, you would rather play the Cardinals in Arizona than the Giants in New Jersey?

That Giant team went on to win a superbowl. Granted not a lot of people would have picked that team to win it all either but I don't see that same defensive intensity in this Giants squad. Still something about Eli and Coughlin in January.....

No, coaches and players mostly different - but we do not have "overwhelming" personnel" yet - we do not have an elite unit just yet on either side of the ball.

As we have seen in 2015, we have a good team - but we don't have a great team just yet. "Good teams" tend to struggle on the road in the playoffs. On a neutral site, would we beat the Giants 6-7 times out of 10? sure.....but going on the road, at best it is a 50/50 deal - heck we were just up there and barely beat them - only because they made a few huge mistakes at the end.

It would'nt really matter too much for me home away where in the dance we got as good achance as anybody.

What I will guarantee though is the disbelief that this team can win on the road during the play-offs.The stone throwing that would take place.Nevermind the fundementalpositives that this team has at stopping the rock and running it which is KEY during the play-offs.

I can guarantee there will be up teen negative threads saying this and that and pretty much half our fanbase believing the above and will only point out what we can't do.It's almost like if that sceanrio happend the players may aswell just forfeit and be done with it and concentrate on the off season.

If we win 2 out of the three games with the Panthers and Vikings, the Falcons will win the Division. Everything else will even itself out.

yeah, at worst we need to split w/ Panthers but would be better to beat them both times - which will be difficult.

the point of the thread - just to emphasize that it is very important to win the division - look it, we win the division and we are likely the #1 or #2 seed with a bye - don't win the division and you likely have to win three road games to get to the SB - much harder road.

I would rather take a 50/50 deal than going on the road against Arizona (Ryan usually struggles against that defense with multiple interceptions) which is more like a 10/90 deal in favor of the Cardinals. Best case would be for the NFC playoffs to go through the dome but if stuck with a wild card situation (as of current standings), it would be great if the Falcons faced the Giants in the wild card round and the Panthers in the divisional round (best case scenario imo).

As Falcon fans, we have been conditioned for disappointment in the playoffs - some will admit this, others won't but still have those doubts but just not verbalized.

Nevertheless, once you get to the playoffs, it is a different level and we all know this. Any weakness a team has gets magnified and exploited in the playoffs. Right now those weaknesses are passrush and Matt's inability to stay consistent and protect the ball. Will these get cleaned up before playoffs? Hopefully.

You take the team that has struggled the last 3 weeks - we would not win in New York if we went up there right now - most likely. We have been an average team the last three weeks - average teams don't win road playoff games. Do I think the NY Giants are really good? NO, but they can beat you if you don't play well - and, as of late, we have not played well.

It would be nice to get at least 1 home game.

Any other year we'd be sitting pretty to get one. Unfortunately we're in the same division as a team that could easily grab the 1 or 2 seed with their schedule. Either we sieze the division and a bye week seed or we are taking our postseason on the road.

The Giants historically peak at the end of the season. They'd be a difficult win for virtually anyone in New York...but if that's what the Falcons have to do I like their chances better this time.

the point is we need to win the division and get a #1 or #2 seed......I know we have failed in past w/ a high seed and maybe that is why you(or not) and/or others don't seem to care - but it is a pretty big F'n deal to get that bye and have at least 1-2 home games. When we get to playoffs, I don't want to even have to play in the 1st round and want that bye to get our players healthy.

I don't know the stats - maybe a stat guru can look it up (i tried) but I gotta believe your playoff and SB success go up dramatically if you are a #1 or #2 seed.

I'm not sure.

I know for a fact regardless the players will back themselves to win whatever the state of play is.

Personally I think we'd have as good a chance as any Eli is mistake prone when forced to be 1 dimensional. If we controlled the clock with the Freeman & co I could still see us winning this game. They still have NO one that can guard #11 so I'd be still confident in us to get it done.

that is it exactly - unfortunately all the division winners get at least one home playoff game - whether they deserve it or not. Imagine if Falcons go 13-3 and have the NFC's 2nd best record and yet we are the #5 seed?

We either win the division and we are seeded #1-4 or we don't win our division and we are #5 or #6. It is just that simple.
