coastiemike
If the WRs aren't getting separation, do you really want him throwing into coverage?
GET-ME-A-DB-TD
Better than throwing it into the dirt. Can't fool the d if you don't get deep respect
k-train
Football & physics 101:In shorts, it takes Julio about 4 & a half seconds to run 40 yards in a straight line.Add in the bulk & weight of pads, a defender or two in his face, and the fact he's probably not able to run in a totally straight line...Now you're looking at 6 or more seconds to cover that distance. So tell me, how often have you EVER seen this line buy 6 seconds of time for the QB??? k-train
You failed to factor in the time the ball has to travel the distance, which negates the last point you made.Ok, so it takes a second for the ball to go from C to QB, another second for the QB to pull it back, and almost another second for him to release it.We still rarely give Ryan 3 seconds back there, and in that situation you are asking to just blindly fire it downfield just for the sake of going deep... even if nothing's there and you are risking an easy INT. Hard to sell PA if you aren't running the ball.
Rise
Roddy and Julio have added too mch bulk as time has progress..Julio will be a TE in about a few seasons...TE speed, and TE size.Muscle is still bulk weight...They need to reduce the weight, and some speed will return...Injuries ar epiling-up because teams do not respect them deep often, and crowd them...Ryan doesn't seem to have the arm for the deep pass, or is too careful and picky about..The Falcons are a big slow, underneath..game-managing team--without a great defense... Rise
Jerry Rice was slower that both Julio and Roddy asd was still a threat to break YAC for a ling TD---at 41!!!!!!...for The Raiders!!!!!Jerry Rice did not have all of this upper-body musclature... But he take a short pass form Ryan, and do better..because he did not bulk-up too much... These dudes are built like OLBs and TE.... They should look like Jerry... The way he trained was more cardio and endurance...They are slowing down now. and teams will shrink the window for underneath stuff.... Dirtybird56
Anytime we try to go deep one of our linemen is getting shoved into Ryan's lap and Ryan's not good at moving to buy that extra second cuz it takes him too long to wind up again
takeitdown
Deep ball and slow developing routes (like the delayed drags that keep killing our D require pass protection. We don't have it.The biggest weakness on the team right now is pass protection (because it negates our weapons).2nd is pass rush (we still wouldn't be an amazing D, but we'd be quite good with a pass rush.) Califalcon0013
Ryan can't throw deep when it it take the wr 2.5 seconds to get deep and the oline can only pass protect for 2.1 seconds at best
GaFFLe
Ryan had had plenty of time to throw off of play action, enough time to push the ball downfield.Correct, this is absolutely a Matt Ryan problem; he's too Julio-centric. Last year, he had a lame coach, beatup o-line and no-running-game excuse but this year, our o-line is much improved and our running attack is among the tops in the entire NFL (if not the best due to Freeman). We are most dangerous when Matt is distributing the ball. The opposing teams get winded and broken down when they don't know where we're throwing too. Unfortunately, due to Matt, our opposition only has to worry about targets to Julio.
Byrdman242424
Matt Ryan isn't a consistent deep ball passer. Duh. There's your answer.
Lornoth
Ryan is fine. The biggest issue is JJ is our only deep threat. Tamme is the next best thing we have in that area, which tells you something. When you only have one guy that is a viable threat deep, it's much easier for the D to take them away. Also our WR core behind Julio was being overrated this offseason.. Lots of talk about "deep", but it's deep with #3 WR's at best. Definitely will have changes in that area next yearI have high hopes for Hardy tho absolutely.
