Where Does Beasley Stack Up Vs Other Rookie Pass Rushers?

Recommended Posts

Im not questioning the beasley pick in any way. I like him, but im just curious. I haven't been able to follow the other rookies how I'd like to, and i know the "which pass rusher to take" debate was rather polarizing on these boards.

Ray, kikaha, and dupree have sacks, but is it due more to talent, scheme, or team?

Well, Clowney has no sacks in 2 seasons, JJ Watt had 5.5 in his first season, and Beasley already has 2 sacks in 6 games so he's coming along pretty darn good IMO.

That's nice and all but he wasn't talking about those guys.

Fowler is out for the year.

Dupree has the most sacks IIRC but two were busted plays.

Gregory looked good week 1, then got injured and is just coming back.

Ray just got hurt last week. Sucks for him because he was just about to get significant playing time with Demarcus Ware hurt.

Kikaha has been surprisingly good.

Haven't heard anything from Nate Orchard. But I don't pay attention to the Browns.

huge learning curve for playing DE, beasley will be fine in the future. no rookie DE's are impressive imo

There have been a few exceptions of rookies who come in and racked up a bunch of sacks, but you are right, the majority of DEs don't rack up a ton of sacks in their rookie seasons. Patrick Kerney only had 5 sacks in his first 2 seasons as a Falcon and exploded his 3rd season.

One thing I don't hear mentioned much, it's obvious that Beasley is trying new moves he's learning. We'd heard former Eagles standout DE Hugh Douglas met with Beasley about a week ago and told him to work on his spin move, and Thursday night against the Satnts you saw Beasley doing just that.

In fact, BEASELY may be trying a little too hard and wearing himself out which may be why he had a down game in NO after just 3 days rest. I'm really glad he got 10'days to chill them will have a bye week coming up a few games after that.

The 2009 draft will be one that I always scratch my head at. Also not sure why we didn't pursue Sheard, dude has been playing well in New England

He and Shane Ray appear to be the most effective thusfar. 2 sacks a piece. None are doing anything incredible.

Ray sprained his mcl. He also barely got any snaps. I'm add big of a Beasley defender as any, but there's a difference. At the same time that entire freaking team is different on defense. They gave the studs with Miller and Ware but not counting them and Shane, they have others lighting up the sack stats like it's candy.

Add any of those guys & their sack totals to our defense and we still are bottom 3rd in the league in sacks.

So?

Well, Clowney has no sacks in 2 seasons

Clowney ... seems like I've heard that name before ... but then again .... seems like I've never heard of him.

Oh, wait ... wasn't he that "once in a generation BEAST of a player" that all teams were to trade up for?!? emot-munch.gif

Kikaha is beating him badly. Dupree too.

Obviously the coaches love what he is doing or they wouldn't let him start and he'd be more of a rotation player. He's in on the key downs and has put pressure on the qb which is what he's been asked to do. I don't think he's had much pressure put on him to perform as much because we're 5-1. He still has a learning curve and a long way to go. Stacking up with the other DE's taken I think he looks the best so far. Not just because I'm biased. If he's not the best, he's definitely the fastest.

Injury, teammates or not, Shane Ray is a savage.
