Philip Wheeler Signed. Charles Godfrey Released

Recommended Posts

Buddy of mine at work (huge Dolphins fan), just told me that he was horrible there and they cut him, went to Oakland and killed it and made pro bowl that year then Dolphins signed him to a big money 5yr contract and he stunk it up so bad that they benched him and then finally released him where he went to SF and then they cut him as well.

That just reconfirms what I posted earlier

Bet it would be the first time a healthy team captain on a udfa contract was cut. Not happening.

Team captain ? The only thing worrilow is leading is giving up first downs on third down . Phillip wheeler is a monster and was a stud for the raiders and colts. Oh but the Dolphins . What happened ?? Oh no . I can't think for myself . Yeah look at suh and get back to me about how the Dolphins have been with their free agents

One Dolphins source told the Miami Herald that WLB Philip Wheeler became "complacent" after ex-GM Jeff Ireland signed him to a five-year, $26 million contract.

In other words, he mailed it in after getting paid. Ireland also happened to guarantee the entirety of Wheeler's $5 million salary for 2014, making him very difficult to cut just one year into the deal. Wheeler was a missed tackle machine in 2013, and was regularly attacked successfully in pass coverage.

Mike Wallace got paid and did the same thing. It must be a Dolphins thing.

we need linebackers than can at least keep up with running backs in the passing game

I am not happy with Worrilow by any stretch of the means but your not going to find many LBers who can cover a RB man on man in open space unless its a crappy RB. Worrilow is as 2 down LB no question but I am not sure your expectations are correct.

How many times are we gonna sign and re-sign Godfrey? We're really dicking that guy around...

Lmmfao

THANK YOU!

Godfrey is legit depth imo. Coaches want to be younger and thats great, but Godfrey can still play and provide. We need a vet safety back there. Allen and Therezie are not the move.

If you watch the game film Bartu played horribly. It's amazing how he basically never makes any plays. It's like we have 10 men out there at times.

Not surprised but this signing at all, we needed to do something. Love that this new staff is aggressive and makes moves that they believe in.

The way i see it, Durant is probably a few weeks away from tackling. And that's fine. One armed men are pretty useless in defense.

Get this Wheeler guy up to speed quick and he'll fit right in.

We're gonna need Durants' elbow healthy for the final 1/3 of the season.

Godfrey was good depth; hate we had to lose him, though.

Sorry... Got a little hypnotized there... with the bouncy bouncy... :-D

Godfrey was good depth? The last year he did anything remotely significant was the 2012 season. He did virtually nothing in 2013 and 2014, then got relegated to third string in 2015.

Godfrey got beat out by a second-year 5th-round CB converted to Free Safety (Allen) and an undrafted rookie FA (Therezie). I would consider Dwight Lowery as good depth had he been re-signed by the Falcons, but not Godfrey.

It seems to me that the same fans that were swinging from Hawley's sack have jumped to Worrilow's. Let's just hope he is upgraded similar to Hawley.

There are a few unemployed Offensive linemen that felt the same way when we brought in Levitre and Long... Just saying'...

None of this applies. What you are missing here is that Hawley was never our starter. The entire OL was in flux throughout the offseason, and ultimately it was Person who won the job. It was actually Gino that replaced Hawley as they thought that he was better depth.

Worrilow is different. He was named starter by the coaches, named captain by the players, and is currently the one receiving the plays from the sidelines.

He also doesn't cost 4 million like Hawley did. wink.png

Edit: Oh, and also, Halwey's starting spot, was taken by a FA, chosen by the new staff early, who had been on the roster all offseason, while this new guy is a street FA, who has generated zero interest in 6 weeks.

So yeah, that too.
