HEIST
He was a decent cover backer until he signed with the Dolphins so it makes you wonder whether it was a case of scheme or age. At least we're trying though.
Bossmare
They seem to be trying hard to do the best they can with what is available.
AndySG
Not dissimilar to the Jake Long signing. High upside. Glad to see we are looking to upgrade the position.
I Even Bleed Red
I gotta give it up to this coaching staff, though. Hugely impressive or not, they certainly take actions to correct mistakes. Wheeler's not gonna change a whole lot, but daymn it we need LBs!
FentayeJones
At this point Wheeler is still a good run stopping LB. He was decent in coverage a few years ago but has probably lost a step in that regard. Still a good depth signing and allows guys like Schofield and Reed to move around the formation. Truth B Told (TRU)
One Dolphins source told the Miami Herald that WLB Philip Wheeler became "complacent" after ex-GM Jeff Ireland signed him to a five-year, $26 million contract. In other words, he mailed it in after getting paid. Ireland also happened to guarantee the entirety of Wheeler's $5 million salary for 2014, making him very difficult to cut just one year into the deal. Wheeler was a missed tackle machine in 2013, and was regularly attacked successfully in pass coverage.Source: Miami Herald Sun, Mar 2, 2014 04:19:00 PM
MACK4ttACK
If they cut Worrilow I will sill be a Paul Worrilow fan and I will still be a Falcons fan. It's fine you can't play forever at a high level and the NFL stands for "Not For Long"

Jesus
Wheeler plays outside. Worrilow inside. The coaching staff believes in Worrilow. He isn't going anywhere.
TheFatboi
Wheeler is a SAM linebacker. I don't think this has any implications on Worrilow. Think it might have more to do with Durant, honestly.Durant is WLB and they usually are the fastest of the linebackers. If wheeler is a SAM that would worry me a little. Worrilow is the least instinctual of the linebackers in coverage. If Wheeler is instinctive in coverage it may be for that. We've been getting toasted in the middle of the field. maxatlanta
I thought the same thing about Hawley and Antone SmithBet it would be the first time a healthy team captain on a udfa contract was cut. Not happening.

GrimeyKidd
I don't want to see worrilow cut. But i wouldn't care less if he was the team captain from the bench
raysnill1
in all honesty cutting hawley was stupid considering how bad Stone playedGino Gradkowski made Hawley expendable and he's healthy but Hawley would have been an expensive backup
TheFatboi
Wheeler plays outside. Worrilow inside. The coaching staff believes in Worrilow. He isn't going anywhere.Linebackers move outside to inside a lot. Brooking was an OLB that moved inside. Reed moved outside to inside with houston. Matthews moved I side last season so it's not unheard of. They def believe in Worrilow against the run as I do as well but we need help in coverage. If wheeler can come in for Worrilow on obvious passing downs then that's good for the team moving forward. I don't think they'll cut him and they shouldn't. Dirtybird56
Vaughn McClure thinks Durant is going to miss more time than originally thought:"The signing of Wheeler likely means starting weakside LB Justin Durant is not quite ready to return from ligament damage in his left elbow."But he also said Wheeler was an ILB so..
