Can't Help But Feeling A Tiny Bit Cheated By The Nfl Schedulers This Year.

Yes I realize we have an incredibly winnable schedule (set years in advance btw) but can't help but feel the NFL schedulers took their revenge by giving us as much as they could the short end of the stick against our biggest rival.

Hated this Thursday night matchup from the get go, I know many of us in the preseason felt like the NFL was trying to offer us up on a silver platter to be embarrassed. As the week actually approached it began to look like our talent difference might just overcome it but alas no. Not to take anything away from the Saints they earned the victory as the circumstances were presented to them but can't help but feeling the outcome could've been VERY different if it kicked off just 3 days later.

Meanwhile I'm just having trouble seeing week 17 as anything larger than the names of the two teams involved. We could easily have clenched by then or Saints could be dealing with a backup QB and a interim coach. It'll be a game we'd love to win of course, I just dont feel we'll get the same satisfaction we would from a normal Saints/Falcons rivalry game. Too many excuses for both teams to sandbag unless the Saints have somehow against all odds worked their way into the wildcard race. Maybe they'll be playing for Drew's last game?

Falcons/Saints are the games I look forward to all year long more than any other event including Georgia/Florida, GSU/App st, or even Christmas. Can't help but feel partially cheated out of that this year.

Sorry just needed to vent :)

I'm not following

what makes you think the nfl wanTed to embarrass us?

Well to be fair I believe we got home Thursday game against them a few years back so NFL owed one. Just can't stand the thought of it being paired with a potentially meaningless week 17 match, feels like were only going to have the the one "real" game and one in which we had very little rest.

They had very little rest too. So did every other team that has and will play on Thursday.

This was actually our first road game on tnf ever. and their first home since 2009 I think lol, so yea it was bound to happen

they didnt put us on tnf to embarrass us. Saints falcons is a marquee type game.

With the Thursday home teams winning at something like .636 really everyone is getting the shaft. Just don't like the idea of a precious rivalry game being used like that when the only turnaround for it is then week freaking 17

It really isn't the same though. Remember how good we looked against the Bucs last year. (We were better but not THAT much better) Being at home is a sizable advantage on short rest..

If anything they setup the stage perfectly to annihilate these tools in game 2. I'm over it, come January 3rd its fcking on. We're gonna be gelled, well have learned all our mistakes and the team is gonna be on a hot streak assuming Carolina doesn't whoop us. No better way to end the regular season than to take out all our vengeance on them in week 17.

week 17 could have potentially been huge..it may still. I doubt we'll be in a position to rest starters regardless. there's no telling how this shakes out. Falcons and panthers can go on a 2 or 3 week skid and saints are back in it.

we sent a 7 win team to the playoffs last year, nothing is decided as of now

Don't know about all that, but I have a lot, a lot, a lot of Saints friends being that I grew up for the most part on Pensacola Beach which is big time Saint country and every one of them on Facebook as all said one thing. They all freely admit that they had no business winning that game and that the Falcons had no business losing it. All of them are saying that the Falcons gave the win away with the stupid turnovers and looking like we possibly either looking past them or were just plain old not prepared. Saying that had we executed even one or two of the bad plays better and the score would have been the opposite.

I think it's more on them than us at this point. They may be experiencing alot of staff and roster turturover and with a good pick within thier reach they may just sit back and be satisfied they already got one on us. And dont get me wrong I'll glady still beat them but it just wont feel the same. Thier fans will have a ready excuse, and I personally won't get as much satisfaction kicking em when thier down as I do hitting them in the mouth when they think thier on our level.

All you people that cry about Saints/Falcons on prime time are morons.

We played awful. Simple as that and we still could have beat them.

If we would have won nobody would be crying about having to play there on Thursday night.

no, they would find something else to ***** about, as always.

I think if we played them again in week 10 or 11 let's say, it'd feel very different. It's just the downside of the NFL pushing divisional games till later in the year I guess. It's normally a pretty good thing I just can't shake the feeling we're missing out on an exciting revenge game in favor of the Saints draft aspersions and our playoff planning. Not the end of the world or anything just a tiny bit dissapointing (maybe a little grating that we have to wait so long as well). But who knows this rivalry has surprised me before. Won't be shocked if it does it again.

Short week for us. Hard to prepared. Players aren't rested and injuries are setting in.

You know what the say, its not the first day you hurt, its the next day when you get up. Then we are back on the road to Nola.

Saints where in do or die mode. They had to win this game. No excuses for the way we played. But they wanted to win more. Our team needed a off day badly.

I hate to quote mike Smith. But games come down to a handful of plays and winning the turn over battle. We had some bad mistakes and we gave them the ball like we didn't want it. Bound to lose those games.

Every team gets a Thursday night game. It would make sense they wanted this one for both teams.

And it's been several years now that the NFL has started purposely scheduling division games in weeks 16 and 17, so there's interest no matter what, potentially a lot if its a deciding game.

What you call being cheated is just the NFL maximizing their revenue.

Guess I should've purpled the NFL the part about the NFL putting us on a silver platter and schedule revenge. A better way to phrase it is that "they did us no favors here" I DO think the NFL knew what it was potentially doing to us with a set up in THAT building and everything going on around it including Gleason and the anniversary of Katrina but do I think Goodell sat in a dark room somewhere and said "let's make the Falcons lose bwahahaha" (twirl mustache)? No that's silly. As we've said Saints were owed a Thursday home game anyway. Just salty about the way it worked out.
