Snafu
Seriously. Free had 13 carries for 100 yards. 7.7 yards per carry. 13 Carries. In no way, shape or form does that make any sense at all. Free should have had 30 carries this game. When we are able to run the ******** ball at will....run the ******* ball. Keep doing it until they have to sell out to stop it. Pound them until they just cant freaking take it any more, then kill them w/ play action. Stone and Coleman may have f'd it up for us, but Shanny's 2nd half game plan was one of the most garbage displays of offensive football I have ever seen. AF89
Agree but only to a point. Can't run the ball every game like we all want them to. Free would never make it to December like that. Eventually better teams than the Saints will also stack the box on us. Matt and the pass protection need to step it up.

He's young and most running teams top back carries the ball 350+ times a season. He will def make it to December. Plus you have Coleman and Mini turner. Most definitely can run the ball. It's called balance. We passed 44 times and ran 17. That in no way shape or fashion is a balanced attack. Recipe for failure.
MilleniumFalcon
First half was a great gameplan, use play action and setup the run. Too bad they fumbled two times in the redzone and took off at least 6 points on the board. Then in the second half, Saints knew that Falcons would use playaction and the offense didn't adjust. It was perfect time to run more but Shanahan got too cute.
Atlantafan21
If Free gets 20-25 carriers a game and Teco get 10 or so that'd be nice. Of course we'd likely have to be controlling the game.

ltstorm2
Not a very well called game for Shannahan. I can understand passing to set up the run if the run isnt working but if youre running the ball however you want, then keep feeding the backs until the other team can stop it. It worked in the beginning but the defense realized that the Falcons weren't even running the ball so they stopped giving a crap.

With all the dee dee dee stuff in the 1st half we couldve still won if the saints didnt know we were gonna pass the entire game. AF89
Coleman had 10 yards per carry. We crushed them on the ground at will and refused to keep doing it.That's a very small sample size. All the Saints have to do is stuff the run on 1st down and their ahead of the game (which on some series they did) Another decent run drive was killed by a hold. It's just the way this league is set up. Eventually you'll have to pass. Can't be predictable.
Guest Negatorris
We will not win if Ryan has to throw 30+ times. He's just another Flacco at this point. We need to feed Freeman and control the tempo.

Freeman had 13 carries for 100 yards at half. He finished with 13 for 100. We ran 17 times. Hardly enough. You think passing 44 times and running 17 is not predictable? Every sb team has a potent running attack. EVERY one. There's no team in the history of SB's I can think of that didn't have a potent running attack. BALANCE is key to ANY successful offense. I'm not sure I'm understanding your point. You want us to pass 44 times and only run 17???

People been screaming for Free to get 30 carries since week 3. Cant do that. Teams even the Saints will eventually slow up the run if theres no pass threat. This isn't college where we can just take a bigger oline and a stable of 3-5 backs and knock the other guy off the line. Pass game HAS to step it up in future games or we will be one deminsional. AF89
Playaction WILL be respected if you show that you can run the ball and stick with it.Tonight they didnt do a good job of hitting those routes after the runs and the Saints simply began to ignore it. Which is my point pass protection and Matt need to step it up. Can't get to the point where we are a 45 carries kind of team cause we simply can't do nothing else, we aren't built that way long term and don't really have have the D to put us in a position to do that. Back in the 80's before the salary cap, the 49ers could just stock up on Hall of Famers.
