On A Positive Note...

Lol, well...I was trying to find a silver lining.

Free is a GOLD lining, he's on pace to have a Top 10 all time season rushing TD record. LT has the most in one season with 28 TD's, 20 gets him into the top 10 all time and we're not even at the halfway point. Boy did we get Dimitroff'd on that one.

More positive news: if we keep this up, we'll have another top-10 pick next year! I wonder what poor kid's career we'll ruin next April?

Keep what up, the 5-1 start? Cuz the schedule doesn't get any tougher.

Sure the Saints game is the last one where I wanted to see a bad one, but Quinn's teams have been very good so far at responding to adversity by correcting and upping their play.

We wanted this win, but we didn't need it to get to the playoffs... They might learn far more from getting their butts whooped last night than they would have by continuing to feel invincible.

So by all means be salty, but let's not act like one game just undid the great start that no one expected, from a team that is learning new schemes on both sides of the ball.

This whole scheme learning moral victory is just getting old.... By week 17 some posters will still be bringing this up somehow.... Can we not just understand that NFL players are professional "scheme learners" essentially? It has been how many weeks now learning a "new" scheme? Maybe there might be another underlying problem....

6 weeks, 5 wins.

These guys are not professionals at "scheme learning". They have professional talent, but not all are able to learn and adapt to the NFL... Wonderlic tests have shown pretty well that most players aren't genius learners. They're talent that takes time to mold into the system.

There are underlying problems, but not ones that can't be corrected or coached up.

Loser post of the year.

This is a mental health issue with this guy. We need to ban guys like this so they don't hurt themselves.

Right, because winning 5 games out of 6 usually results in a Top 10 pick.

No, but winning 5 out of 16 usually does.

The schedule isn't any tougher, but neither is our d-line, nor our pass blocking. We appear to be able to run block, but if we only run 17 times, what good does that do us?

Everything except the running game needs to change. Otherwise we aren't going to win another game.

Overreacting a little wouldn't you say? Win 5 that we weren't supposed to win, and lose one that we should have won and the wheels are falling off? Helpful advice, don't press send! Edited by Alaska Falcon

It's not just the fact that we lost.

I said repeatedly that I wasn't going to worry about wins and losses this year due to the new offense, new defense, new blocking scheme, and so many new players:

AS LONG AS I SAW STEADY GROWTH AND IMPROVEMENT.

Did you see steady growth last night?

Did you see improvement last night?

I saw a defense that was completely helpless against a 40 year old journeyman tight end.

I saw a defense that couldn't buy a stop in the 4th quarter, air or ground.

I saw a defensive coordinator too stubborn or too stupid to make an adjustment to stop said 40 year old TE.

I saw our pass rush wunderkind--- all 235 pounds of him--- get pushed to the ground and sat on. By a no-name third-string OT.

He got manhandled by that no-name third stringer after being equally worthless against a rookie second stringer.

I saw Hageman--- no. No, wait. Other than jumping offsides and blowing any possible goal line stand, I don't recall seeing Hageman at all.

I saw an offense that couldn't pass block against a horrible defensive line.

I saw our #2 WR with Crisco hands.

I saw a cowardly gutless coaching staff that had zero faith in our ability to run the ball down the throat of the worst run defense in the league.

17 rushes?

44 passes?

Cowardly.

Gutless.

I saw our gazillion-dollar receiver drop passes, limp around ineffectively, and generally do squat for the third game in a row.

I appreciate his desire to play, but I abhor the coach's cowardice in not sitting him until he heals.

I saw a team that is fatally flawed in almost every area. The one bright spot was under-utilized by our OC.

Every now and then the sun shines on a dog's arse...the saints being that dog last night! Let's see how the season shakes out first before saying we're not developing. Our defense is still learning how to play together in a system that isn't as convoluted as the past two years. Yes mistakes were made, but you don't learn until said mistakes are out in the open. I understand your frustration, and I was frustrated as well watching that game but c'mon man it's one game. Edited by Alaska Falcon

Glad we got out of the game healthy for the most part (think Willy Mo had something wrong with his hand)

He got what he deserved. All Willy Mo wants to do is default back to throwing/launching himself into someone and not wrapping up. When he does wrap up tackle, he is solid.
