Will Soliai And Jackson Be Worth It In 2016

First of all, I would like to say that I am very happy with how well all of our players are being used right now, including Soliai and Jackson. I would also like to add that I do not dislike either of them. They are playing important roles for our defense.

Now, that being said, I do wonder how long we will retain them. Right now, their cap hits are fine, for what they do, at 4.4 and 3.85 between them. For how much they play, that is perfectly acceptable,

After this season, however, their cap hits jump to 6.9 for Soliai, and 6.35 for Jackson.

I do like their play, but the reality is that they simply aren't playing that much. They are usually playing half the snaps, if that, on defense. Are they good enough to warrant that much pay for that little play? Could we not find someone to do a similar job for less? Could such a player already be on our team?

I was curious as to this board's take on the subject.

I think we should keep Soliai as he's the only true NT that we have. Tyson Jackson would result in more dead cap ($4.8m), but we'd still save $1.5m next year so I'd bet tempted to cut him.

I think it will largely depend on who we target in FA and the draft. While I agree we would be over paying a bit next year we will probably end up keeping at least one of them depending on how the off season shakes out.

Keep in mind, we could also designate 2 players as post June 1 (now May) cuts, to spread the cap hits out, and just get the money back post draft.

If I had to pick between the 2, I'd say that Jackson would be the more likely to receive this designation, as Soliai, just from the eye test, seems to be more valuable for our defense.

I was going to make a thread about this very thing last week on Soliai. I would like to draft a NT and sign Muhammad Wilkerson in FA, although I do not think it will happen.

Honestly, I think that it depends who is available. I think we are going to be getting more and more players who are familiar to Quinn and the other coaches.

I would rather keep Soliai than Jackson. I haven't seen a whole lot from Jackson, and Soliai gives us that big presence in the middle on running downs. Plus he's a huge leader on this defense.

I actually agree, and could see both Asamoah and Jackson being potential post May 18 (16?) designations.
