Washington Post: Shanahan May Be "once-In-A-Generation" Coach

Great article about our great offensive mind!

Quinn says coordinators find themselves scratching their heads, saying, "Okay what is the system?" People can’t figure him out – a rare thing in a league that prides itself on analysis.

Back in 2011, Shanahan said, "I keep getting asked about my system. You know, I really don’t know what my system is. It’s whatever the weakness of the defense is."

I'm thrilled to have him. Shanahan is one of the top three OC's in the league imo. Just hope he stays around long enough for us to get a Lombardi Trophy...or two, or three. I have no doubt he can keep this offense playing at a Super Bowl-winning level as long as we have all our weapons healthy.

For years, the Falcons coaching staff has stubbornly stuck to their game plan, and refused to make changes across quarters, games, and even seasons. Shanahan may be the complete opposite.

Ain't it the truth.

Love this quote .... Birds are getting a balanced enough offense that can move the ball against most defenses out there.

Who are the other 2 you're thinking of?

I love what he said about his scheme. I never understood teams that trot out the same offense every week. Every team is different.

Let's not oversimplify, it is always a game of chess between what the offense and defense are doing. Both trying to exploit each others weaknesses with their strength.

Most teams just don't have the luxury to exploit you any more than just being "balanced" by forcing you to respect what they're good at, and open up what they aren't as good at.

But isn't that kind of what Shanny Jr has done so far? Forced them to respect the teams biggest threat, and killed them on the ground and with open guys when they do?

I've seen some great play calling, but let's not forget that Ryan, Julio and Freeman have made it easy.

Shanny is great, but this offense is his wet dream.

No doubt. Then again, it never looked this balanced and solid under Mularkey and Koetter.

Just like JDave said, this offense is entirely different than any other offense and the last two OCs we had, had Ryan, Julio, Roddy, Turner, and Tony G. That's more talent.

Yet, we've seen new plays and beat teams a different way each week. He sets up plays better than a lot of the OCs in this league.

With Koetter, we all knew the gameplan and playcalling each week. Especially last week. HeIl, even a good group here said execution is more important than playcalling/coaching. Shanahan makes it too easy for guys.
