Falcons On First Take

Thanks for the recap.

I generally steer clear from this show because I find them both to be clowns but I have tuned in several times this season just to see if my views of how they'd talk about the Falcons would be right. Generally, it has been in that our victories over the NFC East darlings have been more about what's wrong with those teams and not what's right with ours. I wouldn't expect too many bouquets from them at all through the regular season as they'll just point to a weak schedule.

See for me Skip has set the agenda for the national media for the Falcons to fail based off this SoS argument he is using 14-2 and 2 home play-off games now while that sounds great its unrealistic this early in the season to make such statements of grandeur.

So glad Coach Herm was there saying how games aren't won on paper and pretty much as he put it pumped the brakes on Skip's agenda.

Yep.

They build you up to tear you down later.

Lot of good points made. I do think we're still vulnerable in the passing game and it's something that won't get fix until the off season. Do we go 16-0, it's possible if the offense continues attacking opponents and don't become predictable. Defense would have to constantly improve on getting after the QB, getting off blocks and getting turnovers. Secondary would have to play sound coverage and play the ball--not the man.

Tired of hearing about the Falcons "soft" schedule. Heck, it's not their fault that other teams suck. You play the schedule as the NFL has designed it to rotate. Period. I don't see what the issue is with that. You don't get a cookie for beating teams with winning records; as with any victory, it goes down in the stats simply as a W. That's it.

Patriots have had a cakewalk in the division for a decade...doesn't diminish anything. You play who is on the schedule.

Smith: not going 16-0. His pick to win nfc south. Proud of Carolina. Physical, going after the ball. Like what he sees. Soft in the passing game. Ryan not Peyton, Rodgers, but pretty **** good. Roddy looks like he's almost done. Something is wrong with Roddy. Jones and hanker son holding it down.

Freeman, love him. Goes so hard. I'm a fan, this brother can ball. If he continues this way, they can be a force.

Smith: Does not understand that Hankerson is better than most opposing teams' nickel-backs...

Skip needs to try to do his breathing in a vacuum.

As for SoS, these morons fail to realise that by beating our opponents we are weakening our own SoS, and strengthening theirs. In determining our SOS, they should disregard the wins and losses that our opponents have against us, because they skew the stats.

For example, the 4 losses that we have inflicted on our opponents contributes to them having a combined 6-10 record which makes them look very weak. However, if we'd been really bad and started 0-4 against the exact same opponents, they would have a 10-6 record which would make it look like we've had a very tough SoS, even though we'd have faced the exact same opponents. I guess we should have lost a couple of our games, to make our SOS look a bit harder <<sarcasm off>>

Against the rest of the NFL, the Giants and Cowboys are 2-1 and Philly any Houston 1-2. Against the rest of the NFL, our opponents have been a respectable 6-6 (.500) which blows the weak SOS arguments out of the water.

I am finding this somewhat humorous.

In preseason and through the first 3 games we played, while the media largely ignored us, many in the Falcons own fanbase who (understandably) were skeptical about how good we looked and used the "we haven't played anyone good yet" argument to back up their fears.

Now, the fanbase has largely started believing this team actually IS really good (understandably) and has largely discarded that argument, but the media, who is NOW paying attention to us, grabs the baton from the fans and runs with it parroting same argument that we haven't payed anyone and won't play anyone all year!

Just looked at the video. Overall, I thought it was putting our team in a nice place this early in the season. There were some negatives but most were positives.

Our team needs to continue taking it one game at a time. It's all about our game and making others adjust to us.

Reminds me of 2012 a little, we were 11-1,and the media's response was "let's wait and see in the playoffs"

I'm stunned that anyone is talking about 16-0. The only way we have any shot at 16-0 is if the Panthers are also undefeated, or a 1-loss team, or whatever. Because otherwise we'll be resting starters as soon as we lock up the division, and the odds of beating any NFL team playing primarily your backups are slim.

Exactly. And think of the other teams with losing records that we are playing now. When they look at their "soft" schedule and see Falcons coming up do you think they feel their schedule is really "soft?" I guarantee you two of the better teams the Packers and Seahawks would not relish having to come to the dome this year..

Well first of all Carolina could very well be right there. Their schedule is just about the same and they are the 2 time defending division champs. Don't think they aren't feeling disrespected by this and that that won't fuel them. Second Green Bay is a legitimate 13-14 win team locking up home field advantage against them is crucial. Last but not least let's say we do have things locked up, you really think its smart to pull your starters and ice them when they are scalding hot? Is there nothing to learn from playing what is probably going to be the best team we will face all year that would best be learned before the playoffs?

This is a discussion so premature I hadn't intended to get involved until the final quarter of the season but something about suggesting putting a hot team on ice for nearly a month just sucked me in. As if suggesting 16-0 and a shot at immortality isn't something to play for wasn't enough. Just imagine how you would feel if the Saints, Bucs or Panthers went 19-0 and had that to eternally hold over our heads. We win a super bowl and some troll pops in and says get back to me when you go undefeated. Winning a super bowl is one thing. 19-0 is another thing entirely. No one else has ever done it. I can't imagine a chump big enough exists that would throw away the chance to accomplish something like that. Especially when there is no proof that resting your starters is the right move. Its both worked and failed.

The comments about the pass defense, particularly Philly, tells me nobody watched the games. Skip got to see his Boys get beat down and run over. Did Weeden even attempt a pass over 10 yards 2nd half?

There were a couple of things that were said that made you realize very quickly that they hadn't actually watched any of our games.

1. Pass defense being ranked 30 as a reason why we will falter. Did they mention the quarter and a half of a first string Texans offense vs a 2nd string Falcons defense? ****, we pulled Tru and had Jalen Collins in there.

2. Mentioned a bad offensive line. Clearly hasn't watched the games there.

We could be battling for home field advantage throughout the playoffs with the Packers, Cardinals and whoever else.

No one talked about the soft schedule at the beginning of the season. The story was no pass rush, no OLine, new staff on both sides of the ball....blah, blah, blah....and now it's, "The soft schedule..." lolol...which is why we have to get to the SB, simply because the story will be, "Even with the second easiest schedule in the NFL, the Falcons lost at home in the 2nd Round...again...
