mashburn*Fibonacci
1. Love how you do not let off. (Except until we are up by 6 touch downs heading into the fourth). 2. How you given us a defensive line, so now our corners look amazing. Like they should. 3. Trusting shannahan.... Because honestly I would have left it on the scheme how our two previous offensive coordinators were. 4. Trying to get the fans involved. Specially on social media. 5. Showing us that TD picked some great players that were not utilized correctly. 6. Making us have a defense. 7. Speeches, pre/after the game that are worth listening to. 8. Getting punched in the mouth by a team. (So bad it looked like there was no hope for any team to come back against the cowboys). But you, Quinn, changed my mindset that we are that one team you will have to play until the last second. 9. Trusting your OC to get the o-line going. (Because are old coach ran it all, and made Nolan/koetter back off as well. Mike Smith picked what "he" wanted and not what the team needed. Example: defensive line. 10. Coming out swinging day one..... A lot of coaches evaluate the players the first year or two and then go hard. But not you, Quinn, you took what you were dealt with and want to dominate the NFL. 11. Cheering/congratulating our players after a good/great play. 12. Not getting onto players for celebrating on the sidelines after they made a fumble recovery/interception. 13. Giving us that running game (but that comes from trusting Shannahan). 14. Bringing back players when they are ready. You do not rush them, nor do you rest them way to long. Example Reed. 15. Not playing someone just because they were a first or second round pick. Or because they were a starter previously. You've made some very hard decisions. From Collins to cutting players like Hawley, and letting other players walk like Spoon. 16. Playing guys and not sticking to just starters. And that mainly goes for defense. But heck, you even did it with Roddy White. I'm not sure what is going on. You could be holding him to staying healthy, he may be recovering still, or he may not fit this scheme. But regardless I now trust you (as long as hankerson does not go back into a lot of drops per game). And I believe if Roddy never shows up, that you will be the one to cut him next year. 17. Pulling players when we are up. Because in the past we were up on the eagles a few years ago. And I kept mentioning in chat why was our big time starters still in, like Spoon. Because it was raining, the field was in horrible condition, and we were good enough to pull out our top starters.... And eventually Spoon went down. And it hurt him bad. So bad it has affected his career. 18. I first questioned if you knew how/what penalties to take. But I now see you are looking at what is best to do. Because majority of coaches will just take 2nd and 15 on a false start. Because it might just be better to put them in 3rd and ten instead of giving them two chances to make a play (when it's in the fourth quarter and you seen their offense not being good). Or taking a holding call for 2 and twenty when it would have been 3rd and 14 because you hit the running back behind the line...... Those are very very tough calls. And you have to know your team. But you also have to know what team you are playing. 19. Spending time with players at camp. Spending time with areas like the line. You found out who is good in what position. 20. Sticking players to opposing players. See, we once had a d-line that looked great jumping all over the place. It caused heck for Peyton Manning a few years ago in the first two quarters. But that crap only worked for so long...... But I saw in the cowboys game were they switched their Rg, Lg, Te on one play. And the certain D line players moved to where the cowboys players moved to. Instead of just staying put. Very very good job..... That shows you keep to playing with what is working. And you know how to change as well. 21. Lastly, for being a COACH. There is still a lot you have in store for us.... Like how will you do in the playoffs! Or how will you throw the red flag! Because Smith set that bar extremely high on the flag.Thank you Quinn very much. Rise Up.

dirtybird2k5
I really hope this doesn't turn into a bash Smitty thread. We all love where the team is right now. But let's all be honest. We all loved Koetter when he was new, we all loved Nolan with his Amoeba defense against the Broncos. We all loved Smitty when he took a ****** franchise that never saw back to back winning seasons to five straight winning seasons... So let's all just enjoy this win. But not get too confident. There is a lot of work to do. Victory Monday, motherf*ckers. 4-0.

The only joke was Smitty throwing the flag. And it's simply a joke. The other things were very very bad things. Getting players hurt, resting players forever, not letting Nolan do his thing with the line....... Sorry but you must have to know what we came from. And lastly this has nothing to do with wins. We could be 1-3 right now and I would still be saying thank you to Quinn (minus the comeback in fourth quarters).

I just want these guys around here to temper expectations, yet I believe we can reach for the stars. I think this team has some magic in it. capologist
Smitty helped turn this franchise around and make us relevant again after the darkest period of the franchise's history. Regardless of the disaster that was the last two years, Smitty was a large reason for that. While I believed it was time to make a change and that DQ was the man for the job, I will always be grateful for what Smitty accomplished. I would just add a tip of the hat to Everyone in the organization right down to the office staff at Flowery Branch and add Hester to #14. Rise Up! I was thinking of the organization as well when I was writing it. But I wanted to try to stay focused on Quinn. What I really like to say is how the falcons are on social media now. They post these controversial pictures that supes make. The cowboy print on himself. And the old falcons were d-bags to him. I honestly believe of we brought back the hickory stick award and supes asked to take that job of drawing for them. That they would eat it up. It's crazy how many media photographers they even let in during training camp.

But Smitty was OUTSTANDING for this franchise. I think he is next to Reeves as the most important Coach the Falcons have ever had.But I don't think it's fair to imply that "Hey, we thought Smitty was a good coach at first, too."I think it's fair to say that Mike Smith was an excellent coach when he got here and for many years after. I think it's also fair to say that at some point, he lost his mojo. I think the timing on his dismissal was about right. We gave a guy who was great for the Franchise a chance, even when things did not go well, and we cut him loose when it became apparent that he was no longer the guy to get the job done.I'll take another five years like the first five that Smith gave us. BUT, I also think Quinn might have the extra edge to take us to the Promised Land.

Because after that he backed off with being aggressive for obvious reasons. And he can come back. He seems smart enough to figure out how to have that aggressive without actually being aggressive.
