I Even Bleed Red
Is it crazy to think Atlanta general manager Thomas Dimitroff could win his third NFL Executive of the Year award months after having his power reduced in the front office? The new coaching staff has guided the Falcons to a 3-0 start, as Kyle Shanahan has transformed the ground attack and offensive lines from long-running competitive liabilities into strong points.Although under-the-radar free-agent pickups such as run-stuffer O'Brien Schofield have paid immediate dividends on Dan Quinn's defense, the most important offseason acquisition has been first-round pick Vic Beasley, who has the look of a difference-making edge rusherThrow in third-round tailback Tevin Coleman, who kept Week 3 breakout star Devonta Freeman on the bench for two weeks, and the impact from the Dimitroff-Scott Pioli draft class ranks with any in September.Beasley isn't the only greenhorn impressing. Here is Around The NFL's latest Rookie of the Year watch for Week 4:1. Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titansquarterback: Gregg Rosenthal highlighted Mariota's overlooked Week 3 performance in this week's Quarterback Index. Mariota threw for 367 yards and authored a perfect two-minute drill to give his team a chance to push the game into overtime, yet the postgame fallout centered on the Colts. That's how lofty the expectations have risen for the NFL's most impressive rookie.2. Amari Cooper, Oakland Raiders wide receiver: Jimmy Smith and Joe Haden are widely viewed as two of the NFL's top-10 cornerbacks. Cooper has whipped them for over 100 yards in back-to-back weeks, a feat never accomplished by the likes of Calvin Johnson, A.J. Green and Dez Bryant in their rookie seasons. Per Pro Football Focus, Cooper is averaging 2.59 yards per route run. No other rookie receiver is averaging more than 1.0 yard per route run. Anquan Boldin (378) and Louis Lipps (337) are the only rookies in history with more than Cooper's 290 receiving yards through three games.3. Vic Beasley, Atlanta Falcons pass rusher: Through three weeks, Beasley looks as quick off the edge as any pass rusher in the NFL. There will be several double-digit sack campaigns in his future -- perhaps as soon as this season.4. Marcus Peters, Kansas City Chiefs cornerback: Aaron Rodgers won Monday night's game with his mind as much as his arm. He picked Tyvon Branch, Marcus Cooper and Ron Parker -- steering clear of future lockdown cornerback Peters.5. Ameer Abdullah, Detroit Lionsrunning back: Joique Bell has been one of the NFL's slowest running backs this season, averaging a paltry 1.1 yards per carry and 2.44 yards per touch. Abdullah, on the other hand, is generating 5.5 yards per touch with a pair of touchdowns. It's time for embattled play-caller Joe Lombardi to start leaning on Abdullah as his featured back.6. Ronald Darby, Buffalo Billscornerback: The NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Month has interceptions in two of three games, leaving the Bills' coaching staff with a "good problem to have" once incumbent starter Leodis McKelvin comes off the reserve/NFI list.7. Matt Jones, Washington Redskins running back: Jones has top-10 talent at the position. The key to his OROY award chances will be overtaking Alfred Morris as the Redskins' lead back for the rest of the season.8. Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks kick returner: Lockett captured NFC Special Teams Player of the Month honors for returning a pair of kicks for touchdowns and leading the NFL in kickoff-return yardage. Coach Pete Carroll expects opponents to start giving his rookie the Hester treatment -- the ultimate sign of respect for explosive kick returners.9. Jameis Winston, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback: Winston can't get away with a 52.2 completion rate, but he makes up for it by striking down the field to allow his receivers a shot at contested catches. Winston's average length of completion is a league-leading 14.4 yards.10. Henry Anderson, Indianapolis Colts defensive end: The Colts' defense is allowing just 3.7 yards per carry this year after being trampled for 4.3 yards per carry in 2014. Anderson and fifth-round nose tackle David Parry are the biggest reasons for the improvement. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000547111/article/rookie-of-the-year-watch-beasley-an-impact-rusherDaymn, this is major props. gazoo
Why is it all these outsiders can keep speaking so highly of Beasley, predict things like "double digit sacks for years to come" , rookie of the year, etc and I get slammed for suggesting I think he has potential to be even better than the awesome John Abraham? Abe had 4.5 sacks his rookie season, I think Beasley has a chance at double digit sacks this year. He faces at less talent at LT over hen next 12 games than he had his first 3 games and already has 2 sacks. When you watch him turn the corner, when you watch how explosive he is off the snap, when you watch some of his juke inside moves whe he beat Smith for that sack last week, when you watch his strip sack from week previous week, Beasley has phenomenal talent and he's just getting started by going up against 3 of the best LTs in the NFL his first 3 games. He gave Peters absolute fits in week one, and he's only going to get a lot better. He actually looks just a little bit more explosive than Abe did, and that's really saying something. RunningThePiszOuttaTheBall
Maybe he wins Exec of the Year, and then Quinn lets him go to get his own guy. That'd be ... strange.

gazoo
Maybe he wins Exec of the Year, and then Quinn lets him go to get his own guy. That'd be ... strange. Why would we have to let TD go to bring in one of Quinn's scouts to join the scouting department? This happens all the time, coaches like bringing their favorite scouts with them when they switch teams.I don't get some of you guys who just can't seem understand this. DocMan
Everything went right for the front office in the draft and in free agency this year, with the exception of injuries to those who have an injury history. Beasley and others have changed our team for the better without question. Props to TD. My hope is that, if he stays, he will CONSISTENTLY draft and acquire impact players. gazoo
I know ... the rumor was just about Quinn bringing in some junior scout. Silly that anyone would think otherwise.Agreed. To actually believe Quinn told, or let leak, to a sports pundit, that he felt TD did a bad job in player acquisition this offseason (haha!) and wanted him fired after end of season just as the team was about to start the season, just as he was about to start his first ever coaching gig, would be silly on so many levels where would one start. Quinn would be a real moron for letting that get out on the papers, and Quinn is not a moron. Now, to believe Quinn suggested a scout to TD who he previously worked with and a pundit heard about this desire, or overhead this conversation, is totally believable, although it's still just a flimsy, unquoted, unsourced, unspecific rumor. A-TowN.-
Still so happy we ended up with this guy. He was a top 5 pick easily and he fell right to us. It was perfect, and now we get to watch Beasley for the next few years.

Beasley does have all the potential in the world tho

Do you think Beasley has a chance to have a better rookie season that Abraham had his rookie season?Everybody on here loves the Falcons, Beasley and our other promising rooks and new players it is just that you take the hype to the highest levels and seem obsessed with trying to be the first one to predict greatness, gazoo. As they say in the wine world, "let it breathe a little." g-dawg
That's fine and all, but you didn't answer the question. Do you think Beasley has a chance to have a better rookie season that Abraham did?Abe's rook year was not with the Falcons - it was with the Jets. I don't know nor do I car what Abe's rookie year numbers were.Beasley is off to a great start and I would love for Beasley to beat Abe's record or anyone else. I hope Beasley stays healthy and gets 14 sacks.Whatever optimistic and premature prediction you make about Beasley or any other Falcons player, coach or gm - I hope you are right - and then you can pull this thread back up and tell us how right you were and how the great gazoo predicted such greatness so early. I Even Bleed Red
We are all pulling for Beasley. Let's pump the breaks on comparing him to Abrham right now. Yes, Beasley has a chance to have a better rookie season. But so what? That's not the same thing as having consistently good games and good seasons. That's a great career. Guest facelessman07
Abraham played in 6 games his rookie year. Had 4.5 sacksEven if Beasley plays in all 16 and notches just 5 sacks, we can confidently say that he will be better than one of the all time greats. It's just so obvious
