The Reason I Believe Vic Beasley May Be Better (At Some Point) Than John Abraham Was

I loved John Abraham, so this is in no way a knock on his awesome play here all those years.

One if my big complaints with Abraham was that against the best OTs in the NFL, he would simply disappear many times, just get shut completely down. Abraham was streaky, he would sometimes go on a tear and sometimes disappear.

That said, I'm noticing Vic Beasely giving the best LTs in the NFL trouble in his first 3 NFL games and Beasley is NOT disappearing at all, he is making a difference even those he's only got 2 sacks in 3 games.

Today to get that sack in crunch time against Tyron Smith, after giving Jason Peters fits in week one, and getting a strip sack last week (Abrahamesque)

I think Beasley may end up being better than Abraham, and that's really saying something as Abe was awesome. If Beasely can make a difference in games against Peters and Smith, he's going to make a difference in all games.

It's not that Abe disappeared per se. He was still the top 3-5 getting pressure in the league even if he didn't have a sack. Why it seems like he disappeared was because the front 4 as a whole couldn't get pressure. We're getting pressure from MORE than just Beasley whereas Abe was the only guy usually getting pressure. So while you think Abe disappeared he really did not. He was still getting pressure the way Beasley does even if he didn't get a sack. He was just doing it by himself so it it looks like he disappeared. Check his season by season pressures. Always one of the tops in applying pressure. I always saw Abe getting pressure. Never stopped. And this fighting double and triple teams. Beasley would look the same way in that mike smith system if he's the only guy getting pressure.

I mean I'm sure that Abraham got sacks against the great ones too...

He did. He killed Joe Thomas and ASKED to be on Joe Thomas too. Jake Long, the saints LT's whoever it may have been. This is a shtick that FFS70 started that Abe disappeared against good Tackles. Abe has over 100 sacks career. You don't get that only going against inferior tackles. It's system system system guys. And also who's lined up NEXT to you. Do yall think Abe would've disappeared if sapp was next to him in?? No he would not have.

Only two sacks in three games? Against two of the best LTs in the league? I find that ******* impressive as a Rook

It's a good point, I'm just trying to say he's doing a lot on snaps other than the two sacks, he's really a disruptive player.

Of course over his

Of course over a 15 year career Abraham got sacks against the best ones, I didn't say he didn't.

I said often he would disappear in games against the best ones.

Although the term " disappeared" is subjective, I had no idea posters were going to get emotional about this post or I wouldn't have left that opening to be exploited to divert from the point.

It's a fact that often You wouldn't even hear Abe's name over his last several year here when he went up against the top OTs . It's just a fact.

And that point is relevant as it relates to what I'm seeing in Beasley. Why this made some emotional I don't understand.

Jeez

You wouldn't hear his name as far as sacks. But he was always applying pressure. It's more about who was lined up next to him than just him. When has mike smith ever got pressure with just a front 4 without blitzing? Not ever. It's more than just about Abe. When Abe first got here the front four was better than what it was later in his tenure with us.

I don't think it's emotions. I just think it's a misunderstanding about WHY Abe would so called "disappear".

Yeah Abe would disappear against good TEs but when we played the Raiders or Cardinals he suddenly looked like an All Pro again. Vic as a rookie is showing his stuff against great LTs.

This is false. Abe had many good games against top LT's. Again, the FALCONS are getting good pressure from the whole front 4. Something that Abe never had the opportunity to be a part of. He never disappeared. He still got pressure. Even without sacks. But think about it. If you're the only guy getting sacks or pressure if you're the opposing coach you're gonna double, triple, and chip the ONLY pass rushing threat so THATS why everybody thinks he's disappear. Abe on THIS team would be a problem. Just like Beasley is. He reminds me of a young Abe already.

Abe was doing the same stuff as Vic...let's not rewrite history now  Vic has a way better supporting cast than Abe had for most his time here

Thank you. It's that simple. Ppl are acting like Beasley is beating by himself. The WHOLE front 4 has been generating pressure vs Abe was the ONLY guy generating pressure.
