I'm Not Buying This "trap Game" Nonsense At All Re: Cowboys Game

Over the past decade or longer I definitely bought into the "trap game" theory as it related to the Falcons teams. I saw it happen several times.

That said, what I'm seeing on the field this year is totally different. The way this team plays is unlike any Falcons team I've seen since 1998 when we had outstanding veteran leadership combined with excellent coaching from Reeves.

I do not know how TD and Quinster pulled this off, but there is something very special in the chemistry of this team at the moment. There is no way this is happening without some of the veterans assuming leadership roles. We know Matty Ice has that offense, but what's going on with the defense? Someone on that side has to be taking charge in that huddle and it may be Schofield, a Super Bowl Champion. Cornelius Bennet with 4 Super Bowl rings provided leadership in 1998.

In any event, I just don't think this team has it in its makeup to "let up" as the trap game narrative floating around the airwaves the last two days suggests.

I see special things in this team, irrespective of the many mistakes that have led to long plays on defense or killed drives on offense. These mistakes come with the territory of adding several starters, new schemes and new coaches on both sides of ball and will get corrected as the team gels.

I'm not predicting a win, I'm predicting we will not let up. I expect a hard fought road game that goes down the the wire.

^Our defense is pretty overrated right now.

Only real obvious improvement to the D is the ability to stop people from scoring at the end of games. Other than that, we are still missing easy tackles, failing to get to the QB at a good rate, and giving up a lot of passing yards. Quinn needs way better talent as of now. Next season we should really see improvements. This year's D is nothing special.

Nope. Im jaded. Dallas is nothing to scoff at. If we allow them any confidence, which we did with both philly and the giants, it's going to be a long game. That defense is serious and that offensive line will keep Weeden clean.

We really havent gotten any pass rush pressure this year. Weeden could sit in the pocket all day behind that line.

The problems have not been talent they have been familiaraity and assignments. Run d is big now dont even play man. Our secondary will get better with each game barring injuries

So you apparently don't think defense will continue to get better as they gel. In your mind, adding all the new starters, a new scheme, new head coach and new defensive coordinator, this team should be playing at its peak ability at this point.

Ok, fantasy football does not take this into account so I understand how the concept escapes you.

Wow ... I won't even bother debating this. If the only improvement you see to our D is stopping people from scoring at the end of the game then alrighty. Lol.

All I see is excuses but when we're in Week 14 getting sliced up and ranked in the lower half of the league in sacks I'm sure you'll be the first to complain and cry. You're a liar if you say you haven't seen a terrible NFL defense go into a new scheme with new players and drastically improve. Texans come to mind. Saints did it as well, but fell off afterwards. There is no drastic improvement for the Falcons defense so far. The team has looked mediocre. I don't see this special feeling everyone is getting. We beat two teams that didn't even sniff the playoffs last year...

What else? The run defense? BVG had a pretty good run D too at one point.

This doesn't surprise me, analysis is over your head so you dismiss perfectly reasonable analysis as 'an excuse".

Hey, you may accidentally be right and we could fold like a tent later this year, but it certainly won't be because of your understanding of what is happening on the field today.

Don't mind him he's coming off a sabbatical from this board after he told people who disagreed with him to commit suicide.

That being said, I see a good improvement in our defense. It isn't a dramatic change, but is noticeable and I believe it will continue to get better. Every game won't be a defensive masterpiece but I like what I see so far.

As far as defense, I can relate to what Torris is saying. But all I've ever wanted us to have is a defense who can come up with a stop when we need it. And we've done it 2 weeks in a row. The more chances you give Ryan and Bryant to take the lead in the 2nd half, our chances of winning rises exponentially.

Even other players are commenting on our defense...I don't think it'll show in the stat sheet this year, but if we keep improving it'll show in the playoffs.

I;m thinking it will take a couple more games.. As I have said in previous post, If we can win the next two games, We would be very hard to beat having 4 Wins under our belt but I don't think we are there just yet.. But I do think with 4 games we should have the new system down. This game could be very deceiving ... They better not back off and inch.... Home field advantage is huge in the NFL.

It amazes me how so many equate me talking about "chemistry and leadership" which is what my post is about, to somehow meaning "we played like the top defense in the NFL the last two weeks and we have already arrived".

I see something special in chemistry and leadership does not mean I think we will be the #1 defense in the NFL this year. To me, at this point, all this means we will not fall into a trap game against Dallas and that we have a reasonable chance at cleaning up a lot of the blown assignments and getting much better. My post is quite clear, not sure why some are struggling so hard to understand my point.

"disagreed"

Lol more like they attacked me because I'm not positive about this team and I retaliated, but of course the mods gave me the banhammer and ignored everyone else. Hypocritical typical BS.

A trap happens when players ease up. I've seen no "easing up" attitude from this staff or these players. Sure, I've seen mistakes, but I've also seen improvement and a long-missing eagerness. I expect the improvement to continue.

We've seen Tru turn into Richard Sherman. Biermann become a hero. Ricardo Allen saving the day. Paul Worrilow making tackles, and not just to stop an already huge gain. Alford owning mistakes and pushing forward with corrections that improve his play.

This D is for real, folks. The attitude is right.

Carl, thank you for understanding the point, which is I see leadership and chemistry taking hold within the team ranks and therefore I do not see us letting up against the Cowboys.

Considering the fact that we have a rookie head coach, entire new coaching staff, new offense, new defense and a brand new offensive line it’s pretty impressive that we are 2-0 - especially since we went into both games as underdogs.

We have been inconsistent at times, missed some tackles here and there and dropped some balls but the most important things we have been is resilient and competitive.

I get what you are saying Gazoo, this is a different team. Whether we win or lose, I don’t expect this team to let up and fall victim to the whole “trap game” nonsense. I have no doubt that these players are going to play hard through the last whistle.
