Dallas Cowboys trade for Bills QB Matt Cassel

Jeffrey Kahn - 57 minutes ago 3

The Dallas Cowboys have traded for Buffalo Bills quarterback Matt Cassel, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The Cowboys will send over their 2017 fiifth-round pick in exchange for the Bills' 2017 seventh-round draft pick as well, per Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News.

The trade came on Tuesday after the Cowboys brought up practice squad quarterback Kellen Moore to the 53-man roster. The Cowboys will now have two quarterbacks behind new starter Brandon Weeden.

This news is all a result of starting quarterback Tony Romo hitting the short-term IR with a fractured left clavicle. Romo is expected to be out for eight weeks.

Cassel was the backup to quarterback Tyrod Taylor on the Bills. The 6-4, 238-pound QB once filled in for Patriots quarterback Tom Brady when he went down with a knee injury in 2008. Cassel threw for 3,693 yards and 21 touchdowns that year. In 2010 with the Chiefs, Cassel threw for 3,116 yards and 27 touchdowns to 11 interceptions his best season in the NFL.

I'm feeling a little better now.

They didnt have a real #3. They had a RB/QB formation that direct snapped to the RB. In worse case scenarios.

Cassel will be #2, I just dont see a lot out of Kellen Moore. I may be wrong, but if it were me, Cassel would be my back up.

Expect that in time. This is just temp. fix until Romo gets back. I wouldn't read to much into who is who and who is starting. Cassel still has to learn the playbook and that will take more than a few days.

Oh, I know, but I have a lot more faith in Cassel than any other QB we have not named Romo. I think we can ride with Cassel until Romo gets back. Especially against New England, lol.
