Power Rankings Week 1

19. Atlanta Falcons

Preseason Ranking: 23

What a win to kick off Dan Quinn's tenure in Atlanta. Julio Jones balled out for 141 yards and two touchdowns, and Tevin Coleman shined in his debut game. Are the Falcons real contenders in the NFC South? Looks that way, but we'll know for sure in the coming weeks

I was hoping for a top 15 ranking after such a big win but with the way we've looked these last two years we need to prove that it wasn't a fluke win brought on by late mistakes from our opponent. If we can beat the Giants by three scores then everyone will know this a team to contend.

So their late mistakes are excuses, ours are just how the game was played?

Power Rankings are such a joke...

Seattle drops from 1-3 after getting dominated by the Rams... Throw out the 2 lucky turnovers and the game wasn't as close as the score. I'm they'll only drop 1 spot when they lose to the Pack on Sunday despite the glaring OL and defensive issues....

Buffalo is only #11 after dominating the Colts and the Steelers drop from 3 spots 6 to 9 after a 7 point road loss to the defending champs?

My problem is not with our ranking. We have been terrible for 2 years. My problem is with who is ranked above us after what they did this weekend. For instance, the Colts did not look better than us after that shallacking they took from the Bills. The Eagles did not look better than us when we actually beat them. Even if it was at home, they are 9 spots above us. That's ridiculous...

While I think this team may be a good bit better than 19, we still have a lot to prove. When you have a track record of being good, one loss can be viewed as a fluke. When you have a record of losing, a win could be a lucky one. I'm sure we all thought we were pretty strong after beating the Stains and embarrassing the Bucs. If it is real, we will be a top team when it matters.

One poll had us at #17 moving up 6 spots from #23.

It's a matter of relativity. The Colts were ranked much higher than us to begin with.

Let's just assume this ranking is somewhat legitimate. The Falcons play only three more teams that have better than a 20th ranking, and the 49ers will probably fall below #20 by the time we play them, which would leave only two more teams! This team should definitely make the playoffs, as a wild card if not a division winner.

It's alright, we'll be top 10, possibly even top 8 when week 4 comes around. We should start at least 3-0, with Giants and Cowboys both weakened by some major injuries. No Bryant or Scandrick for Cowboys(also no Hardy and Gregory). They still also haven't found a lead back. Giants have no safeties to help out their solid corners along with Cruz being out. Wouldn't be too surprised if we were undefeated by the time our bye week came around, still early in the season to know how good other teams are though I guess.
