MAD597
Wondering if we are keeping Jake Long in our back pocket as an emergency signing if Holmes does not come back from injury well? It would explain the workouts but the lack or quickly signing him.
falconstwopercentsized
Falcons aren't the only team testing him keyword testing.
JDaveG
No. We have other tackles. For example, at the very worst Jake Long would be an improvement over Bryce Harris, if healthy. Since we haven't heard anything, my best guess is we're negotiating a contract, but it could well be that all sides are just buttoned up about it and intend to release a statement today. Who knows? Brewcrew
Who knows... Nobody else has signed Long either. He's obviously not the same player he once was. Maybe he just didn't impress in his workout.
Tuggle'2
I honestly don't think Holmes is even part of the equation regarding Long. If I had to really guess it would probably be more about money and most especially for Jake all about length. He is no doubtedly looking for multiple years and going off all the other contracts this year we aren't real sure about that.
Truth B Told (TRU)
Jake wants to get paid and the Falcons need depth at the tackle position. I foresee them signing Jake on Monday to a non guaranteed 1yr 4M dollar contract.
falconidae
Timelines for signing Long and Holmes recovery are two way different things. Long would need to be signed by Monday, no way Holmes gets healthy from his injury by that time.Plus, they could cut both Polumbus AND Harris and have room for both Long and Holmes. BadMoonRising
I would have to agree with Booger, I mean Tuggle.Holmes most likely has nothing to do with the Long situation.
Dem Birds
Its about the guarantee. If he's good to go, he'll be signed Tuesday
Guest King Jigsaw
Yep, Long won't be signed until after the first game of the season so we don't have to sign his fully guaranteed deal, but rather a deal friendlier to Atlanta in case he ends up being horrible. So we'll know Tuesday if we liked what we saw.
hjerry
Nah, Holmes is on PUP and out the first 6 weeks.
MACK4ttACK
Im pretty sure they aren't in a rush until after game 1. They want to see how our o line does and if there is an emergency cut needed they will probably bring in long as the replacement. But yeah they dont want to change anything mid week
Romfal
maybe, just maybe, Long is done
Guest King Jigsaw
Just wanted to put this out there since every fifth tweet is a question about Long. Were working on getting an update on how the workout went, but we dont expect him to be signed before Game One. Were told by our agent friends that would guarantee Longs contract for the season because hes a veteran. If they Falcons wait until after Game One, they can sign him to a play-as-go or an incentive laden deal type of deal. So, were not expecting him to be signed before Monday. Well stay on the story, but there are other pressing matters to focus on, like whos covering Jordan Matthews and how do you slow down the Eagles tempo. Nono
he is considered a veteran so if we sign him now his salary is guaranteed--after Monday its not, there will be three contracts offered to Jake Monday night
B_Lo_Touchdowns
An injuried Long is better then a healthy Holmes. No way they're waiting it out.

etherdome
Its about the guarantee. If he's good to go, he'll be signed Tuesday Exactly. If Long is deemed a worthy signing, he will be signed after game one. That way, his injury becomes less of a risk. The team will not have to guaranteed his 2015 salary; they would just simply cut bait. I really don't know what to say about Holmes.
coastiemike
It shouldn't matter. If you have a chance to sign talent, you do so. And when Holmes comes back, you let them compete for the job. That's the way depth is built. You don't wait and see. That's what the last few years has netted us. Guest King Jigsaw
I don't know how many times the same question can be answered in one thread before people stop acting like Lamar Holmes actually has something to do with why Long hasn't signed yet? FentayeJones
I don't think Holmes health has anything to with signing Jake Long because I think its likely that Holmes is no longer in the team plans... neither is Asamoah. This staff seem to be more focused on O-lineman that can run block at that's not a strength of either Holmes or Asamoah.
MR Falcon
An injuried Long is better then a healthy Holmes. No way they're waiting it out.Even if both of them was on IR together Long would be 1st string and Holmes would be 2nd string.
