Any Word On Jake Long?

I would agree but Jake Long's name alone has enough cache' that he is going to get close to $3-4mm guaranteed just to sign anyway - given that his salary would be in that range as well - I don't think the "guarantee" will matter anyway - so, given my premise, I think we could go ahead and sign him.

Perhaps, and perhaps they will. But given he has been very ineffective for about four seasons now, no one else is expressing great interest (as far as we know) I see no reason to gamble on a guaranteed 3-4 million when after just just 4 days from now they can release him at anytime and walk away saving millions. If this were my checking account I'd wait until after game's end Monday.

I hope he works out because in 2008 he was considered the greatest LT prospect in a decade but this is a business and business is about making (or saving) money.

Don't see them signing him until AFTER Monday night, the first regular season game, before which he would be compelled to receive a veteran's guaranteed contract.

If they're seriously considering him, the problem with that is that the Giants are looking to work him out too. I read that on a Giants board last night, not sure which one though. So, if he leaves FB without a contract, he very well might not end up in Atl.

agreed. Giants may be thinking the same thing and right now they are likely sole bidder - wait until Tuesday and it could be the Giants and maybe another team that suffers a right or left tackle injury to their front line starter this weekend.

It doesn't make sense bringing him in for another workout if they are not going to sign him.

yes it does......Jake Long was not healthy enough to sign the last time they brought him in - now Jake has been cleared by Dr. James Andrews and the Falcons want to see how healthy he is - if he proves healthy enough, Falcons will start negotiations w/ Long's agent - if not, then "crickets".

I saw a lot of stuff on Levitre......

sometimes what TATF wants is the right move or potentially correct - ala - Vic Beasley pick.

Sometimes, but this is not such a case. We have no idea of what level of play he is capable of right now. I think many on here are convinced that he's, at worst, a top 10 RT, or something. For all we know, he's regressed to less than backup level. That's why I'm so indifferent to whether we sign him or not. I'll just sit back and trust the guys that actually see him work out.

agreed. I will be OK w/ it either way as well - if we don't sign him, it is simply because he cannot help us this year because he is too much of a shadow of his former self.

If he is healthy enough to play and play well - and his contract demands are not ridiculous - sign him. Otherwise, we roll w/ what we got.
