Who Gets The Axe To Make Room For Reed & Holmes To Return In 6 Weeks?

To go on PUP it must be BEFORE the first day of camp

there is an IR--designated to return--- list

but I'm not sure how it works --it's maybe that he can't get back from that list early enough

I think the IR DTR rule says that the player can't practice with the team for 6 weeks and can't play for 8 weeks. AND, it's only good for one player per year per team. On the one hand, they think that even if the groin rehab takes the full 6 weeks, at least he won't be out 8 weeks that the IR DTR designation would have cost, and if he had his surgery on 02 Sept as reported by the press, 6 weeks means he could be back for the Skins or maybe the NO game and not have to wait till Tampa. On the other hand, they have saved the DTR designation for a player who has a more serious injury.

Thanks for the clarification!

So if Reed is on IR does that mean we're back at a 52 man roster?

Best I can tell, we never really were at 52. We already know that Starr wasn't waived till today, which means he counted past Sat 4pm. They then must've waived him, when they claimed Harris. We will then have another spot, once Reed hits IR-DTR.

Right now AF.com is showing 53 total including Reed, so yeah once he is officially placed on IR-DTR we will be at 52 again.

I'm guessing Bryce Harris will get sent packing once Holmes is back.

I'd rather cut Polumbus to being Holmes back, personally.

We could also always just cut or injured-waive Holmes once he comes off of PUP.

For Reed, we might release Bierman... or whoever we sign as our 53rd player (especially if that player is another LB).
