ryanATL1988
At least that makes sense. Jeez. This! Atleast I feel better knowing he was hurt. Hopefully its the IR where he can return this year
k-train
I knew that "doesn't fit the scheme" stuff was B.S.
bigbabygrady
how hurt could he have been? he got a lot of snaps in the first 3 games and he was at least good in pass protection when he did play

sanfranfalcon
yep...hope he returns at some point early in season. i'm guessing the hip injury allowed him to pass blocker at a high level but not be as efficient in the run/zone blocking. we need Asamoah in the mix!! k-train
how hurt could he have been? he got a lot of snaps in the first 3 games and he was at least good in pass protection when he did playCould've been something he was working through & it got re-aggrivated to the point where he wasn't able to play through it & be effective in the scheme. The ZBS requires quick movement & mobility, and he was already nursing an ankle injury. Even the most agile mofo on Earth is gonna have a really hard time trying to keep up with the healthy guys when he's placing 300lbs on a gimpy ankle & a messed up hip. Lornoth
That's good I guess, things just didn't make sense. Still don't understand why we waited so long if this was the plan though, why was he out there playing still?
jeffro2000
I don't know, but I imagine he has played his last down for us.I assume he is injured, but this does seem strange. His base was guaranteed, so it would cost us more to cut him, so maybe this was a way to free up a spot. Gotta assume he is hurt though or he would file a grievance or something. I liked him and wanted him for depth. Felt like he was going to be needed
A Dog Named Brian
Game 3 probably did him in. That was hard to watch
RandomFan
Something is still fishy here. He would have have to have been hurt in the final practice before the week 4 preseason game. I'm thinking this is more to do with some salary cap shenanigans somehow.

k-train
Seems to me like this is what happened:1. He hurt his ankle.2. He was able to play, but because he was still healing, he didn't yet have 100% of his mobility/agility. Since the ZBS scheme relies so heavily on agility & movement as well as the line working as one fluid group, he was likely no able to keep up.3. He was "demoted" so he could still be getting work in while he healed, but wouldn't be slowing down the rest of the 1st string line by being unable to move with the rest of them.4. He was finally getting better with the ankle, and possibly going to be ready to start working with the 1st team again when he had another big setback... hence the frustration in his comment "Man, I can't even talk about it right now"5. The only sensible thing to do was to give him a year to get healthy & luckily we were able to find someone to fill the void at LG.

The only thing I would add is since Reed was not listed on the IR designated to return spot, maybe they're holding that open for Aso in hopes they can get him back later in the year. Romfal
honestly I think it would have cost us more to cut him, so we decided IR was cheaper. We had no real reports of his injury being severe at any point, but we knew Reed needed/got surgery.
etherdome
Somewhere, there is a pissed-off insurance company. Expect a full and detailed inquiry.
Psychic Gibbon
Oh. Well, that makes a whole lot more sense than him not being a fit for Shanahan's scheme since he's always moved well. It also means if Levitre bounces back in a scheme he's more suited for and Asamoah returns healthy then we have a **** of pair at G for next season. FalconsFanSince194eva
Dang our best lineman never even got a real shot in the new offense. Hopefully his recovery goes well and he can be useful next year. Does anyone know how much he will be making next year? I assume that plays into the thought process if they cut him or not next year.
