HEIST
To be quite frank, I'd cut both ward and smith. Our 3rd rb is going to get a fair amount of playing time. Neither are ready for that.Vaughn just tweeted Jerome is gone today too

chris30277
I think it has to do with having 3 similar backs. Coleman offers the speed and quickness smith does. Freeman offers one cut ability and better pass protection but none of the three can push a pile. I imagine we are going to keep someone that has more size and strength to give us some versatility on short yardage.
DirtyBird8711
No...they recognized his value was on special teams. He was too fragile for full time work. This regime just cut bait with him, so you should praise Smith for giving him any shot at all.I feel that we could've used him more than just ST......Oh well...... jdawg4876
I think there is an 80% chance your day is going to be full of disappointment.disappointment is a strong word bc I dont hate the guy like some do around here, just dont think he did enough to earn a roster spot, the only thing he did ok on defense was run support but even that was iffy
capologist
Injury settlement or IR for Antone, either way he's done per twitter...
paulitik
****. Can't we put him on temporary IR? I hate to lose a guy that can reach the end zone at any time. This sucks.
falconstwopercentsized
Doesn't Coleman have that kind of speed?
Flyin' In DC
Good luck to you Antone. I wish the injury bug didn't live with you. Maybe he ends up back on our Practice squad by making it through waivers with the bad hammy.
MayorWest13
Doesn't Coleman have that kind of speed?Exactly which is why I'm not worried but it does hurt special teams.

Xfactor
This is surprising and I wonder who gets the 3rd spot Freeman/Coleman/Ward

FinalScore2.0
I hate to see Smith go, but as others have said, it is a business. Ward is a liability in pass game. His pass blocking sucks. If the staff keeps him then I guess they believe they can coach him up but they'll putting Ryan at risk until he catches on. JDaveG
Don't know.... maybe a signing....That's my thought too. Jerome Smith has already been announced as a cut, and he's the only bigger back we had (he also looked good on several carries in the PS). I think Ford is already gone, as is that last dude we signed a week or two ago. So it looks like Ward is going to be the guy unless we bring someone in.I'm with you -- I hope we do. Psychic Gibbon
Makes sense. He's ineffective as anything other than an outside home run threat and Coleman provides that along with being more versatile.
jidady
Godspeed, Antone. You were terrific.
Knight of God
KOG doesn't like Freeman. I disagree, but I get it too. But I don't think it's just dislike -- if you think about it, what is Coleman but a bigger, stronger, faster version of Freeman? Just like Freeman was a bigger, stronger, faster version of Quizz, and we see where Quizz is.I don't think they're cutting Freeman this season. But if Coleman and Ward do well, he's expendable next season, and I'd expect them to draft another RB.+1If we get a bigger back, then what is the purpose behind Freeman? because people like him? I don't personally get it.Also, most here said the same thing when I said we may cut Antone.
blizzard_falcon
For those asking earlier in the thread, Carlton Mitchell is not eligible for the practice squad. He was drafted in 2010, spent 2 years with the Browns on their active roster; spent 2012 with Jacksonville; and was on practice squads for Dallas and Tampa in 2013.He's spent the last two seasons in the CFL.He may have shown well enough to make a team's 53 man roster, but it won't be ours.
