Tribal Chief
If there was ever a time for NFL owners to start expressing their displeasure with Roger Goodell, its now, while the smoke from Judge Richard Bermans torching of Goodells Ballghazi ruling is still swirling. And so here comes Falcons owner Arthur Blank, rather flatly stating that hes sick of all these **** ups.Blank talked to the Atlanta Journal Constitution about Goodell, and did that thing bosses are so good at doing: smuggle a finger wag into what appears to be a compliment:Its not healthy for the NFL to be in the kind of litigious position that its been for last several years, Blank said. I think that the commissioner is working hard to hold up the respect and integrity of the game, the competitive balance of the game and the shield. Having said that, I think we have to find ways to get to a better place sooner with the NFLPA than the process that weve gone through.Blank is absolutely right. It would be good for everyone if the NFL could come up with a more constructive process for working out disagreements with players than using federal lawsuits involving Tom Bradys balls as grounds for proxy battles. He also understands that this isnt about Ballghazi, but the validity of the CBA:This deflategate thing which isnt about deflatedgate any longer, its about what has been collectively negotiated for decades in terms of the commissioners responsibility in terms of disciplining players, Blank said. If we have to look at that differently in todays light, in todays environment, as an ownership group we should be prepared to do that. The commissioner should be prepared to do that. That sure sounds like a guy who would like to put Roger Goodell back on a leash. Id imagine that from an owners perspective, letting the commissioner do a Judge Dredd impression is all well and good so long as hes doing so competently, but Goodell has repeatedly demonstrated his complete inability to successfully preside over his own kangaroo court. The fact that an NFL owner is suggesting the CBA maybe needs to be re-negotiated in a way that lessens the leagues power over players tells you all you need to know about what a ****** job Goodell has been doing. blizzard_falcon
Blank isn't the only owner to voice displeasure with Goodell. Apparently a lot of the owners are upset that he won't let Deflategate go and is going to contest this week's decision at a higher court.I definitely think a lot of the owners are getting sick with the NFL Front Office's abuse of power over player punishment. They want to be able to get along with the NFLPA, because the CBA as it stands right now is a really good deal for the owners.
paulitik
After Kraft, Blank is the closest to Goodell to vocalize his displeasure with the Commissioner's handling of it's discipline issues. Blank actually was the Owner in charge of setting the Commissioner's ridiculous compensation. This is pretty big.

The Vent King
I figured the owners have to have had enough of Wyatt Goodell dominating the headlines in the manner he has the last couple of seasons. It's been making the league look bad and this Brady thing had to be the last straw. Now they're facing trying to close a Pandora's box they gotta get closed NOW. They do not want all the news shots of them being dragged into court every time they issue league punishment for misconduct that they know will come. Wyatt has become too much trouble for the protection of "the shield". If anything it's becoming increasingly ironic that the guy they hired to protect the shield is now the very one tarnishing it. Bank on it - they will either replace him soon or strip him of his powers by doing what should have all along and come with a guideline set of rules for punishment that leads a panel of league officials in decision making with a fair independent arbitrator for appeals instead of letting one man fly by the seat of his pants coming up with whatever HE feels is justice. That's just too much power for any one man... The Shotfather
Goodell had a slam dunk case and he bungled it.LolLOL what? The fact that Goodell had absolutely NOTHING for a case is the exact reason why this has blown up in his face. There has been zero evidence implicating Tom Brady in anything, which is why Judge Berman ruled that it was not legal for the NFL to suspend him. B3TD
Maybe Blank is sincere, but you all do realize that the commissioner is basically the fall guy to take the heat off the owner's unpopular decisions, right?Drives me crazy when people act like Goodell is the mastermind going against the owners. He's not. He's paid handsomely to suit their interests.

That said, not all owners are pro-Goodell.

He's paid to do their dirty work, and even if he's "fired", still doesn't mean he's not just the fall guy. It may just mean he's lost credibility with the public. The Shotfather
Is it nice a warm on Brady's jock ?I'm gonna ignore this response and assume you're in the middle of a detox of some kind and I'll try to put it in a more elementary way. You do realize that you can't legally accuse someone of doing something wrong, then provide no evidence that they actually did it, and then punish them for it as if you had, right? Like, you do actually get that is a ridiculous thing to have happen? I'm going to make another assumption that you do, and that you're just one of those people that hates the **** out of people who win at life. The Shotfather
Am I the only one who cares 2 ***** about Atlanta getting a super bowlNope. Can somebody explain to me why I'm supposed to give a **** whether or not the Super Bowl ever gets played in Atlanta again? Why do we care about this? I'm convinced that most people just fanboy out at the idea that people are actually caring about and/or acknowledging Atlanta's existence. I have a friend of mine who almost lets out an audible "giggity" every time he hears the word Atlanta in a movie or TV show or a song, and he also freaks out every time he finds out a certain movie is being filmed in Atlanta. "DUDE DID YOU KNOW CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR IS BEING FILMED IN ATLANTA?!?!? HOLY ****!"Noooobody gives a ****. Which is exactly how I feel about Atlanta getting a Super Bowl. I don't care in the slightest bit. The only way you could ever get me to care about Atlanta hosting a Super Bowl is if the NFL changed the rules to say that whichever team playing in the game with the best record gets to play the game in their home stadium. I don't hate Brady,I respect him for being a great QB, but he knew the balls were deflated and he lied about it.Pure and simple.I would expect him to lie about it because that is what people do when they can hide behind high priced laywers.Goodell was not smart enough to prove it to the satisfaction of the judge and Goodell was heavy handed with the 4 game suspension.Goodell is trying administer some form of justice, he is a bungler
papachaz
Seeing that we got in trouble for pumping in noise, AB should just be tight lipped even though he's right. the difference though is AB manned up, admitted it, said 'we deserved to be punished for it, and we'll absorb that"so No, seeing how our organization owned up instead of denying, took the punishment with no back talk, or mumbling and grumbling, if there's an owner who should have the right to say what needs to be said, it's Arthur Blank
