Sixteenth-round pick Josh Anthony has elected to go to Auburn rather than sign with the Braves.

Not going to cry too hard. War Eagle!!

Maybe, Nate Shumpert was the other pick that was going to be a tough sign. Still, of the two I'm glad they got Anthony, who has some thunder in his bat and may be good enough to stick at 3B.

By my count, that's now 31/42 draftees signed, even before Anderson and Nelsony's expected signings. That's a fantastic percentage.

That's definitely amazing!!

Braves have really done quite a bit to maximize their ability to acquire talent. When you step back and look at it they have really left no stone unturned.

And to think we haven't even signed that insane international amateur class we reportedly have lined up yet.

In a big day for the Braves on the international side (plus a big win against Jose Fernandez and the Marlins), the Braves also signed 9th-round pick OF Tyler Neslony. Neslony gets a 8K signing bonus.

Boston's gamble on Groome may backfire. He has yet to sign or even set up a time for medical exams. Boston is reportedly topping its offer at $3.5M. Groome was reportedly telling teams he was seeking at least $4M. They only have until Friday to make an agreement.

Only 2 draftees from the first 10 rounds failed to sign before the deadline today.

41. Pirates: Nick Lodolo, LHP

Wow, apparently just before the deadline, the Braves made one more draft signing, picking up 28th-round pick Nick Shumpert. After not signing Josh Anthony, I assumed they were out of dough for Shumpert as well.

I'm actually really surprised by this signing. Shumpert turned down 7th-round money out of HS last year, and could have gone back to college. Hit tool is his biggest question mark, but shows really good power, especially for a middle infielder that could stick at shortstop.
