atlking
Talk about a reality check.....I see 6-10 with the way that line played today.Lets back up. I said early this year that the Falcons shouldve kept Koetter as offensive coordinator., but i met opposition for saying that. I know new head coaches like to bring in coordinators, but they dont ALWAYS do that. For all the bad the Falcons defense was last year, the offensive line had come together and jelled late during the season when Stone came in to anchor the center position. In fact, it was the offense STILL keeping the Falcons in games. The ONLY consistent problem they had all year was run blocking. This year, i see EVERYTHING turning into a mess because these cats are being asked to learn a new blocking scheme, along with moving players around out of their normal positions on the line. You got Asamough benched. Stone over at guard where he dont belong, Jake still confused because he still hadnt learned how to straight up block, which is a carry over from last year. Its a cluster you know what. Missed assignments everywhere. That zone blocking is for SCRUBS who cant block straight up, so they learn how to cut block and ALMOST block in the back, within the rules. Never liked that style of blocking. Its a VERY finesse oriented approach in the run game, which is EXACTLY what the Falcons DIDNT need as a team trying to become physical.I know its been only 3 preseason games, but ive seen enough. Im not saying Shanahan is a bad coordinator, im saying that to completely makeover a offense that wasnt that bad, and bring in a totally new blocking scheme, wasnt the right move. I knew it was a big gamble and it appears i was right. Edited August 30, 2015 by atlking
MilleniumFalcon
DQ didn't want Koetter and he wasn't going to stay when there was an opening available and he had no job security. I never really liked Koetter. Shanahan I'm not completely sold on yet but at worst he's probably gonna be on par with Koetter.

Dude is a great offensive coordinator. Watch what he does with that Tampa Bay offense. Dirk's only problems came from the fact that the Falcons went cheap on the offensive line, so that destroyed his running game. He had to resort to predictable screen plays to the backs and receivers to try and compensate for it.

They only lost 31-7 at home against the Browns. Yep, that Bucs offense is a real juggernaut.
xiv_T_E_C_O_
Koetter was basically the same thing as Mularkey, a good offense that gets old quick. Sounds like a knock not but its not, team it up with a D and you got a window.

AndySG
Shouldn't Tice be getting the credit for the offensive line?
since68andcounting
Shouldn't Tice be getting the credit for the offensive line?Yeah the big loss was Tice, not Koetter. Tice pulled an absolute miracle with that patchwork POS last year.
Guest facelessman07
The Falcons SHOULD HAVE been more careful in their line picks and acquisitions over the past few yearsIf we wanna play the "instead of this, we should've done that" game, let's play it right
ryanadonis
One preseason game and you guys lose hope? I hope you guys don't give up on your girlfriends because she didn't call you at a specific time that she usually does. You all probably freak out like girls in middle school, why didn't he call me ? 😥😥😥😥
since68andcounting
Even Matthews is looking like a possible bust at this point. We haven't picked up a decent OLineman since we got Dahl in FA
cb743f
Dirk Koetter legged it as soon as Mike Smith was fired.
TheFalcoholic
I know we needed Beasley, but Scherff would be nice right now. He wasn't at our pick anyways though so oh well.

TheFalcoholic
Scherff has been getting slaughtered this pre-season, hasn't he?I wouldn't know, I haven't been following much except the Falcons. Just thinking back to how dominating he was in his highlights.

Of course there is a learning curve but you said , it's only been 3 preseason games, you recognize the new scheme, and still you are not giving the scheme change the time it needs to be established and perfected. That's a contradictory thought process. Not sure if it's because you want to be right, like stirring the pot, or if it's because of your personal preference mentioned in the post. But be aware that the ultimate goal is a SB and there have been ZBS OL that have win Super Bowls. So the ultimate personal preference should be a SB win, not how it's done (as long as it's not cheating, then it's not really a win)
